Plenty of Tigers forwards off contract

We are all talking about the young stars off contract but we have a lot of forwards especially back rowers off contract - what does everyone think should and will happen with the following

Bodene Thompson - Has been playing a great 80 minutes which gives us flexibility but not sure what will happen here
James Gavet - Should be a priority as has shown huge potential
Ava Seumanufagai - May have to be let go given we have Brown and Buchannan already signed up as well
Corey Patterson - Hasn't had as much opportunity as I'd expect so he might go
Ben Murdoch Masiala - I expect him to go and its been rumoured he will
Sitaleki Akoula - Young and with lots of potential should be able to hold on

We also have Kyle Lovett who is already signed up while Andrew Vela is off contract as well.

So what does everyone think - especially given as we have resigned a lot of young blokes on increased contracts and given we have Blair, Fulton, Sironen, Sue already signed up in the backrow and Woods, Galloway, Taupau, Brown, Buchannan in the front row

Brown hasn't impressed me yet,Thompson to me is a don't care either way,Cory Patterson if not to dear then hang on to him,Ava the same,Gavet is a must though.
BMM and Buchannan need to be shopped around,I am unsure on Lovett and Akoula as I havent seen enough of them.

Possibly we could let BMM go but most of the other forwards mentioned should be re-signed as long as it doesn't bring the club financially undone.

Gavet should be a high priority… who knows how that will go though as his stock will have risen.

Will be disappointed if we lose Ava or Akauola, especially because Buchannen will be eating up coin that could be used to retain them, and I dont see Buch stepping up unfortunately, I cannot see him developing further.

Bodene and Patterson, I dont think we need both, neither have been bad for us quite the opposite, and I see that decision boiling down to price in the end, although would personally prefer Bodene...

BMM can go, he will most likely kick on with a change of scenery, and good on him if he does, but i dont see him finding anymore than he has with us. Its unfortunate, but if we cannot unlock his potential, then its best for both parties he finds it somewhere else...

My 2 bob on it all.

From the off-contract players:
1 - Gavet
2/3 - Ava & Sitaleki
4 - Thompson

Vela - no idea but some people seem to think he has talent
The rest - not fussed

I haven't seen Buchanan this year, but Potter seemed to think he would have a bundle of bulking up in him. I think he might improve over the next couple of years and would certainly be reasonably priced.

Bodene has been very reliable this year and I'd regret losing him. Being able to change to centres is a great bonus with the current concussion rules.

Patterson was probably a stop-gap measure, designed to give us some experience until our young pack matures. Would have to improve to be kept.

Buchannan has zero leg speed though, I just dont see him gaining muscle and speed, thats a one or the other type deal…

I totally agree on Bodene and Patterson, I just have a bad feeling we are going to have to compromise somewhere due to cap pressures, Bodene possibly garnering alot more market attention.

Keep Gavet and Ava. Dont know about Paterson yet as I havent seen enough of him. Let BMM and Thomson go.

We have a lot of expensive deadwood off contract in the next year or two, so we should be able to back end a few contracts to keep some important players.

You would hope Gavet is keen to hang around, we gave him another year after a bit of a horror year for him last year.

Home is where the heart is and he is part of the now throbbing heart of this side. His brother being in the NYC may help as well, but I think Potter is the key to keeping this group of believers together.

Hopefully since Gavet seems to friendly with Taupau and Blair… This helps his decision if we decide to try lock him up. The whole group of them seem to love playing with each other.

Ava has a lot of potential due to his size and strength, but lacks the aggression that allows him to play to his potential.

Bodene has definitely been solid for us this year, and pretty unfazed about the rest.

blair's got another year left with us aye?

we can count on him to kill it next year and hopefully he keeps up his form this year as well

I don't know how we can keep Gavet but we should try. At the moment he looks the most damaging forward in the comp. He comes on and destroys teams.

Im not a Buchannan fan - is it expected that he's to be a longer term player? Gavet seems at this point to be the leader. Even more so, dare I say than Woodsy. I think all that's possible should be done to keep him.

The bloke makes me want to jump in the telly and stand shoulder to shoulder with him.

Gavet is a definite, and I really like what Thompson is bringing to the club. Every team needs a 'no frills, roll the sleeves up and get dirty' sort of player. So I'd like him to stay. I think Patterson could still add a lot to the pack if used correctly,(but at the moment he'll have to bide his time). And Buchanan can still be a useful back up to the current crop of props and shouldn't demand too much coin. Like many here, it would seem BMM may be on his way out. Ava is a keeper and I like what little I have seen of Akoula.

Gavet is on peanuts given we re-signed him after he missed the entire off season and was a nobody. He's entitled to a reasonable increase. Really we could try and offload BMM and Buchanon. That would be enough to cover Gavet, Ava and possibly Akaola. Then we could offload Patterson and give his cash to Bodene.

Done.

James Gavet
Sitaleki Akoula
Ava Seumanufagai
Bodene Thompson
Andrew Vela
Corey Patterson
Ben Murdoch-Masila

Re-sign in the above order for mine. If successful working down the list, I guess a cut-off point is around Thompson and Vela although Patterson would be good back-up if his price is right.
