Another labour supporter no doubt. All this government is good at is just spending and more soending. then the libs will get in and have to cut Spending and then you will labor pipe up and complain about it. Same as NSW Goverment.

Also the way Gillard likes to dictate to everyone and try to stop the Press from reporting anything negative against labor we might as well be a communist country. i used to vote labor but this Goverment has lost the plot and also my vote.

OK buddy.

I'm only pointing the facts of the matter.

On another matter, what does everyone think about the Libs trying to railroad Peter Slipper out of parliament based on a phony sexual harrassment claim?

Any of you Qlders going to vote for Mal Brough?

I think it's a real shame as Mal Brough was, and could be again, a very good and decent MP. He's always been one of the real ones, not one that has been spat out of the political production line (the type that dominate politics at the moment). He's shown interest in a comeback and his own party has thrown him a hospital pass. Really poor from the coalition in my opinion. All they have to do is keep calm and let Labor ruin its own chances of re-election, yet they consistently show they're just no better.

You've got to be freaking kidding right? When as she ever done that? Stopping the press reporting anything negative against Labor? Pick up any News Ltd paper and there's a stack of anti-ALP stories. Turn on 2GB and you'll hear stacks.

The NBN is sucj an overspend its not funny. It will blow out to around 60 Billion Dollars which IMO is ridiculous.

Chna is rolling out just about the same thing although slightly slower spped For 1 Billion People for a third of the cost of ours.

Now i know China dont pay their workers as much so labour costs would be down but put tha in Perspective.

1 BILLION PEOPLE COST 12 BILLION

24 MILLIN PEOPLE 45 BILLION AND CLIMBING.
\
\
The NBN Co itself Just all pay themselves big bonuses and the take up rate is 25-30% in the areas that are getting this service for bugger all and not many people want it.

As always Labour Could not run a chook raffle without stuffing it up. I wont say they cant arrange a r–- in a brothel because that is something they can do. Just ask Craig Thonpson.

The irresponsible spending is without precedent. Even the Whitlam government applied some basic financial checks and balances to ensure that spending at least looked like it was being controlled. Pity about Rex Connor

Tax relief, defence, health, education and services have all suffered at the hands of these economic vandals. The pursuit of absurd idealogical goals and the inability to properly manage even the most straightforward projects will leave us with an unwanted financial legacy. If you want a snapshot of just how inept and indifferent these people are, just check Combet's responses to the recent carbon ads fiasco

This article does not paint him in a good light at all.

I'm not sure which has less truth to it, this sentence or your 'Julia Gillard is a secret lesbian' schtick.

You can make a case for defence spending but you are way off on the other points.

This article was nothing but a snivelling whine from a journalist with a chip on his shoulder.
It doesnt paint Mal in a good light and that was the point.
Slipper is a self indulgent scum bag and everyone knows it. If I had to choose between him and a bloke who got the poo's over an umpiring decision 11 years ago I would certainly take the latter.

I don't disagree with your assessment of Slipper - he seems like a fairly unpleasant worm-like man. However having a perspective MP basically colluding with another person to bring dubious charges against an MP to bring down a government is not a good look at all.

I was simply responding to Glen McWilliams' comments along the lines of 'he seems like a good guy, it's a shame he's messed up in this'. Does that seem a fair description of a bloke who was complicit in conjuring up a phony sexual harrassment case, in order to unseat an elected MP and possibly even bring down a government? People complain about Gillard's 'dictatorship' and so called destruction of democracy, are they willing to give a free pass to Mal Brough, who thinks he can decide who is in parliament single handedly, along the same lines as Tony Abbott did with Pauline Hanson before him?

Slipper is not the issue here, nobody is trying to defend him. Even Tony Abbott has abandoned their friendship despite supporting Slipper for many, many years and through many a scandal.

My take on him was from his time as Indigenous Affairs Minister when he seemed to actually give a damn and showed a human side. What has transpired since then has been disgraceful. To use the legal system for political advantage is arrogant and contemptuous. He's now tarnished with this and you would have to think he is unelectable. Big opportunity now for an independant in Fisher, although there may be enough rusted on voters to say "well he's not as bad as that other guy" and vote for him anyway.

Any thoughts when the Federal election may be this year ??

My guess would be that now they have abandoned the surplus ambition/promise, the Government will drag it out as long as they can… so second half of the year.

Assuming the global economy goes at a steady rate and Australia goes with it, the longer they hold out, the stupider the 'carbon tax will destroy everything' argument looks.

on that point:

https://twitter.com/TheKouk/status/278306437598420992

Since carbon tax started, the ASX up 11.9%, adding around $130 billion to value of Australian stock market

The Government gets elected by the people and the people are then at the mercy of the Government as to when the next election gets held. Is that democracy?

Well there is a time limit , I think it has to happen before October , but there is also an option for the govt to call an early election.

Elections must be held every three years. The government has the power to call an election within a certain period - namely, the election this year can be held between 3 August 2013 and and 30 November 2013.
