Apart from Mayer, the only other person from within who has commented on Potter's situation was Blocker, who said it will depend on the results. So it would seem that they are in no hurry to sort this out.
For mine it seems that the same influence who didn't want Potter in the first place, and got Payten onto the staff as a concession, still have the knives out. Only excellent results will save Potter if that's the case and it probably will still only be temporary.
If Todd is saying "I'll move on if I don't get the gig", then I'd be inclined to let him move on. I think he needs more experience to become a good NRL coach and it will be more rounded experience if he learns at another club as well.
I'll make it clear that I loved Payten as a player and thought he was a great servant to our club.
His only claim to the top role is his premiership with the U20's squad which boasted the likes of Teddy, Moses, Brooks, Nofoaluma, Brown & Koroibete. A few of the aforementioned are kids who could well be "once in a generation" type players if they continue to develop. His only first team experience is under Potter and if it is perceived that he is not getting results well Payten then qualifies as part of the problem as an assistant coach.
If he wants to leave because he won't get the top role well then adiós el grande hombre…
