Rabbitohs ace forced out....

This stinks of wroughting. So South's are releasing him to sort out his mental health problems and the.meduthe.media are talking about what clubs will take him on. Absolute joke. If Roberts has mental health issues under contract to South's they should not be releasing him but supporting him through it - that includes honouring his contract. Just like when players are injured. He is not walking away from the game no suggestion of that.

Has Roberts said anything at all?

If there is the possibility of something underhanded, sure investigate, but I see no difference with an injury based retirement. Mental health is just another medical condition and should be treated the same as any debilitating physical injury.

I agree that mental health should be taken seriously but this is not a retirement

Do we know that?

Roberts is 27 yrs old, mental health issues/disorders can be treated, no doctor in the world would say a mental health issue will last the person the next 6 years and can not be improved upon with treatment. Unless that doctor is employed by Souths.

Anything can be treated, whether successfully or not is another matter depending on the illness and individual. Each case has to be judged on it's merits and it is unfair to cast judgement at this point and what may occur up to six years down the track is irrelevant.

Roberts added: "With the support of Souths, I am working closely with professionals to get myself healthy and into a position where I can play my best footy and support my family.

"Souths have been very supportive during this period, helping me to focus on the recovery from my pec injury and providing support for Anna, me and the kids."

The former NSW Origin centre played a total 79 games for the Broncos between 2016 and 2019 before moving to Redfern where he reunited with old coach Wayne Bennett.

Clearly the support only goes so far - the question is why?

Cheers.
If he goes to another club for less money then south's will carry the difference on their cap.

Not irrelevant if they were trying to retire him. But they aren't trying to retire him, they aren't even going that far.

It's a sham, he walks away from approximately half a million dollars to become unemployed? Because he's seeking treatment which may take a few weeks/months? Ridiculous. No way does he do that without Souths topping up his pocket on the side.

How stupid does the NRL think we are to let Souths get away with this. For all the 'good' things V'landys has done, it's the same old corrupt boys club.

So maybe I'm going off my nutter early? The question may not even be asked in the public sphere.

I wonder if I can put money on JAC ending up at Souths, would have to be short odds.

All I can say is what the... they’re clearing a hell of a lot of players to upgrade Mitchell. Sounds like he’s about to be the highest paid nrl player of all time! Unless all that cap money is for 2 players? A FB and a winger who wants to be a FB?

I guess with Ingliss being given special dispensation at South's when retired, Burgess and the recent events, now Roberts - there is reason for some going off early on this one.

I'll feel better when we get our next good signing. It may not be JAC, but I do have faith in Madge's recruitment. Whoever we sign, I look forward to them improving our side.

That’s the point forgotten by most of us, JAC has said he wants a shot at FB, he won’t get that at South’s, so unless he’s changed his mind on that South’s would be an unlikely destination

Addo- Carr is all talk. Of course he will be happy playing wing when he goes to Souths. It;s his call, he turned his mind away from WT and the fair offer of FB if he is good enough.

If it looks like a DUCK., Acts like a DUCK ... it's generally a DUCK... I would love NRL to gets some balls and actually investigate these top clubs..
If the media story about Souths Burgess & Doctors are correct how it this not the top story in league... This is 100 times more serious then us offering Farah a deal after he retires (not even going to talk about the fact he declined).. A club doctor hiding the fact a player took drugs and knew it by not putting script in his name and also not advising the integrity unit ...anyway I am sure once the police investigate this and if found guilty I am sure the NRL will slap on wrist and ask them not to do again...

Well we poached Hartigan from the Roosters and Woodward from the Storm. Maybe it’s now time to poach the HR Manager at the Grubbitohs who is responsible for downsizing. Whoever it is they are very effective at their work.

Wash your mouth out. Souths and top club should never be thought of, let alone spoken in the same sentence

Roberts added: "With the support of Souths, I am working closely with professionals to get myself healthy and into a position where I can play my best footy and support my family.

"Souths have been very supportive during this period, helping me to focus on the recovery from my pec injury and providing support for Anna, me and the kids."

The former NSW Origin centre played a total 79 games for the Broncos between 2016 and 2019 before moving to Redfern where he reunited with old coach Wayne Bennett.

Clearly the support only goes so far - the question is why?

He has a younger brother with muscular dystrophy, no way he in the world he would just throw away $550,000 when his brother would need all the support he can get.
Stinks of Crowe !

If I was down in the dumps and then just lost a $400,000 plus contract, it would compound that issue 10 fold
