Ratu Tagive

Does anybody know what his actual first name is?
Apparently Ratu is just a title equal to sir

Demps is right - it does mean Chief in Fijian - but it is still his proper name!

Peni's full name is also actually Ratu Peni Tagive - in both occasions it is their name - not the title as neither are officially Chiefs!

Despite it originating from the term Chief - you will find it is just about the most common male name in Fiji with many brothers sharing it with a different middle name!

So Peni just decided to go by his middle name?
And Ratu (The one we have now) would have a middle name as Peni does but he chooses to go by Ratu?

Yep - although Peni has gone back to Ratu Peni in 2011 team lists!

He apparently dropped Ratu because his father or uncle is an actual Chief in Fiji and he didn't consider himself to be worthy of it (I read that in an interview with him back in 2008)!

Ratu Tagive has a bit of pace. At the trial when he was playing BRET he got pretty close to the guy who took the intercept from the Utai pass

Definitively. He has all the trademarks of Peni. He is looking like an astute buy from the Tigers.

Should get a run over Utai.

Further to this & my original post I read in yesterday's RLW that it was Ratu & Peni's Grandfather who was a village Chief (Ratu) in Fiji!

Peni mentions that all his brothers & male cousins are also called Ratu & that is why he went by his middle name of Peni - but since his Grandfather passed away last year he has gone back to Ratu Peni because he now understands the significance to his family!

I assume our Ratu has a middle name but it has never been publicised or used in team lists etc!

While this is confusing to western sensibilities I also have a pair of Tongan mates who are brothers and are named Terry & Terence - so it is not uncommon in Pacific nations!

Back to our Ratu & I have to say I am quite surprised at how he has stood out in the trials so far from all reports! Watched him play a number of times for the dogs NYC in 2010 & he was not overly impressive! Hope he can keep it up!

I think we should take a step back and let him prove himself in the lower grades, no point rushing him into first grade especially when we have a number of wingers on the books.

If he is as good as some of you believe he will force his way in.

I love it how the tigers sign rejects from other clubs and then the whole season they will be playing Jim Beam cup every week and will never get a run in the top grade and then go to another club and they are in the starting lineup every single week.

What are you on about mate????

Your post makes little sense - the Jim Beam Cup no longer exists - and it was a third-tier comp where few if any of our players (aside from Wade Dunley & Isaac Lui) ever go to!!!

And they weren't rejects from other clubs - just internal kids who couldn't make the grade!!! I don't see Lui or Dunley playing top grade elsewhere at all - let alone every single week!!
