Yeah lots of time. Are you suggesting Indigenous people don’t make up the majority of people living in remote areas?
I know for a fact that it’s a mixture.
They are majority on remote stations but they aren’t alone out there by any measure.

It wasn’t, it was my personal perspective. You open a thread and then as usual start making personal attacks. This is pretty much why the politics thread got shutdown. I think I’ve engaged with people in good faith.
I was asking for opinions and information.
You came on and spoke in sound bites then had a go at the other side.
Completely unhelpful.

I'm in Singapore these days and while I can't vote, it should be a Yes. It's been a while since I've agreed with Yoss! 😉

I used to work on indigenous policy when I worked for DOFA. It's terrible with some of the inbuilt disadvantages that the First Nation people deal with.

I was involved in costing a subsidy for business loans because, as a demographic, they would be slugged with crazy escalated interest rates due to the elevated risk profile. It's just one example that contributes to the outcomes in the video in the thread. We need a constant voice to understand and solve more - accelerate what we are doing.

Besides this, I believe the core of the problem lies in that our First Nations people still live almost as a separate society. If we can lower any sort of barriers to being closer, we have to take it.

Whilst most of that is true, wont doing this lead to more separation?
I can’t see how it brings us together.

You’re not a citizen Hammer? Our chats are one of the things I do miss from the politics thread.

It truly breaks my heart and makes me feel ashamed that we haven’t done better and doing those things,

Thankyou, that’s very interesting. I actually haven’t seen much from the No side until recently. Maybe they are targeting the older demographic?

Wouldn't say they're targeting older demographic,
I don't think they need to. They've running a fear
& misinformation campaign though and it's going
well for them if the polls are to be believed...

This is a photo of the recent vote no rally where
Michaela Cash was whipping the crowd into
a frenzy squawking "if you don't know, vote no" lol

Listening to someone always brings them closer.
This seems far too divisive for that to work out.
I can’t see non indigenous people who are doing it very tough getting the warm fuzzies that another bureaucracy been setup to divert more public funds to one section of the community.

They all look pretty old to me

Correct, but in this case, you are by default racist if you want to study the whole statement from the heart/ related material e.g. https://ulurustatement.org/the-statement/view-the-statement/, and ask questions ??😡
The "regressive elite" command that you MJST agree with them, and dutifully do whatever they ask from you.
If not, they call you names so you are from than on, the worst "enemy of the people"!😉😡

They are haha. That's why I mentioned they don't
need to target the older demographic - It's a sure
thing pretty much. A lot of the older folks voting
no and those in the crowd are only a generation
removed from the 'White Australia policy' that
ended in 1969 (to give you an idea as to why).

Good post.

Same mate.

Still a citizen, but have to renounce voting rights if you don't expect to return in 6 years.

Who do you suppose lives in very remote areas? Which ethnic group?
According to the most recent census, in NSW, indigenous represent 16.5% of the 'remote' population, and 31% of the 'very remote' population, so a minority in both instances.

What you see portrayed on the tv isn't necessarily a reflection of real life.

Big yes from me.

- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people asked for this
- Over 80% of Aboriginal people support it, so a very broad spectrum of people from different socioeconomic groups, political beliefs, remote/rural/urban geography
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander are asking for some kind of body to give advice to Government on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy areas (sounds sensible to me)

Non-Aboriginal people have had largely disgraceful results when it comes to Indigenous policy for the last 50 plus years. It's a bit like us copping the wooden spoon for half a decade without replacing the board and CEO.

Under the normal Australian political process, if passed, all parties and representatives in Parliament will then need to then design the detail on how it works. Even Peter Dutton knows this.
