Richards a liability

I can see your point but in my opinion Koro was significantly a better option than Richards and that was obvious when we played the Storm.

Maybe you can carry an old slow winger with a great kicking game if you have a firing backline. We haven't had that. Maybe this year will be different and we can afford to carry Richards. If I was the coach I wouldn't be risking my career on Richards though.

Now Koroibete was a liability on the end of our backline. He may have been made to look better in a defensively sound team like Storm but in our club he was the epitome of a liability.

therein lies the problem. sound defence was the liabilty not Koroibete.
Cause & effect. Koroibete was the effect - not the cause. Koroibete in fact was learning from people who were not sound in defence. I think he did a good job under those circumstances.

I'll agree with that, all things considered Koro did quite well for a player of his experience, as a club we were just asking too much from him at that point of his career.

Discussion about our wingers and the liability they pose to our side had me remembering another winger who was considered a liability to his side. His name is Taqele Naiyaravoro a 120 kilo ex-Wests Tigers winger with strength and speed to match.According to last Sunday's newspaper report he is only one step away from representing Australia in this season's Super 15 competition.

Israel Folau is a current convert from rugby league. Lote Tuquiri played rugby league origin as a winger before also converting to top level rugby. Maybe the rugby guys are better judges of talent than Wests Tigers supporters.

Sounds like a great second rower to me! Wingers need to be fast and dangerous from a bit more than a few metres out. All this talk of Lawrence to the back row, maybe we should move Patty instead to play a Fitzgibbon sort of role.

I watched every game. He has no problems getting the ball over the line , with his size and strength. In 2014 he scored 145 points (equal to Cameron Smith and 10 behind Jamie Soward ) and that's after missing about six games or so. He still offers a lot to a team with so many youngsters in it.
Also the way the game is played this days with so much emphasis on repeat sets. He is one player in the NRL that can relieve a lot of presure with his drop outs. In 2014 he kick a 72 meter drop out which is "world record". Things like this (and drop goals) can be the difference between winning and losing a game.
We will have a lot better chance of winning tight games with Richards in our 2015 side than if we replace him with another rookie.

Our outside backs were put under enormous pressure last year due to our up and in defensive structures,Taylor said he plans to change things this year. So big Pat should not be exposed as much as last year

I seem to remember Richards taking a intercept and running 70mtrs to score in the first half of the season. Perhaps you should take your stop watch down to the training paddock to see how "slow" he actually is.

His world record drop outs were virtually non-existent for us, and more often than not grubbered along the ground for barely 40 metres. He has the potential, and is goal kicking is top class, but he still needs to offer more for mine. Each to their own. Play him at 12.

Who could forget the man with the gigantic boot? Everyone, apparently. Even Mick Potter told Big League before the start of last season that Richards was not a superstar, but a smart recruit.

Turns out he was an absolute revelation for the Wests Tigers.

When he wasn't booting balls 70 metres on the fly from line drop-outs he was potting them over the posts to win games from the kicking tee or from field goals in general play.

He wasn't too bad with ball in hand either. On average he made more than 10 metres every time he ran the ball, breaking the line 13 times for 10 tries. On top of missing just 14 tackles across the entire season, he has a wealth of experience as one of only three premiership players at the club.
