RoarFEED (iPhone/iPod App) Development Thread

Just to add to the tapatalk thing, I did get in contact with those dudes and we may be able to sort something out. Not STRAIGHT away though.

Does this app come with a Wests Tigers screen saver or just the Balmain one.

Just wana jump on the Mac vs PC comments….

Mac's are overpriced pieces of crap from Korea... Jobs has said they won't support Sandy Bridge until 2012!!! By which time... intel's new architecture will be ready.

I've long hated Windows and as result loved various distros of Linux (of whom Mac steal design and ideas from CONSTANTLY), however Windows 7 is the best OS i have ever used... If you want a Modern Day computer, Mac's are far from it... Hell... they are god damn PC's (ever since the power-pc died) shoved in an aluminium case and loaded with an OS based on a 20yr old kernel!!!

Also... for those Mac Book Air lovers... http://www.samsung.com/us/news/newsRead.do?news_seq=19774&gltype=" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This DOMINATES the air in EVERY aspect

GOD I HATE STEVE JOBS!!!

Ahhhhh [/end rant]

Anyway….

Jealous!!

Haha… I am pretty confident the upcoming features should make all you guys happy... This site was built over a few weeks... this has been a work in progress and spanned nearly 6 months!

I can't wait to Launch it guys... and we will need everyone's help in finding bugs, hopefully there aren't too many...

Windows 7works very well - I Like plenty as well.

As for new site - YOu guys sure know how to build anticipation in this super soldier…

The screen saver or the background that is shown must be the Balmain one. Orange with black "V"s. Do you have a Black background with white "V"s for Wests and what do you have for the Wests Tigers supporters. Can you please show us the other backgrounds that come with this app. Our CEO has said that he want's us to move away from the Balmain and Wests days and become one identity so could you please show me the Wests Tigers screensaver. I hope that the Wests Tigers background is neutral and caters for all Wests Tigers supporters.

Are you missng the white in the middle?

ANd if you didn't notice, Tigers are orange/gold. We aren't the Wests SiberianTigers

ahhh I understand, the background image

well, as mentioned in one of the earlier posts, the background image was only temporary and has in fact changed since then. In fact the layout of the app has changed a fair bit since the last series of screenshots.

The new background image is more neutral, actually if anything it's more "Wests", but it was in no way designed to be so, instead it was designed with aesthetics in mind as opposed to pleasing either side of the fan base.

Also I suppose I should note that the app is not going to be a "Wests Tigers", "Balmain" or "Wests" app, instead it's an app for this website which displays user-driven content related to subjects like "Wests Tigers", "Balmain" and "Wests".
A slight and subtle difference, but an important one because if it were trying to be a "Wests Tigers" app we'd probably get both rejected by Apple and a complaint from the club.
It would also clash with the club's current "app" from YuuTiger (which is garbage compared to what RoarFEED will be).

Hence you will not find one mention of "Wests Tigers" within the app's framework, not even anywhere within the code.

Thanks mate for your quick answer. Yes as an old fella I struggle with what things are called and I'm glad you were able to understand what I mean't when I said background. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing the new "app" background

 OK..

Update!

Apple gave preliminary approval today. I've got the app running on a testing iphone at the moment. There have been a few unforeseen bugs (nothing major) but all in all it's looking fantastic! Better than expected actually!

Thankyou to all the people that offered to do beta testing. Unfortunately I can't give the beta to everyone, but i'll be contacting a few of you shortly.

Don't worry if you missed out, I'm going to give a rough estimate and say that the app will (pending final approval from Apple) be available for download at some stage during the week building up to either the Parramatta or Roosters trial games.

For free!

good stuff

i'm sure we all will appreciate the hard work!

Update:

**Testing:**
Testing has been going well. One issue was found when the app loaded in areas of limited or no internet connectivity, causing it to crash. That issue has since been fixed.

**Push:**
One of the final things being implemented and tested is push-notifications. So far it's working very well! Team lists, team changes, breaking news, all of it can be pushed to your phone instantly. So when you're sitting at that important meeting on Tuesday afternoon you can rest assured knowing that your phone will vibrate with a notification the MOMENT the team is announced.

**Tapatalk:**
As per some requests I'm working on getting this implemented. The guys just released the API so fingers crossed I can get it up and running in time.

**Android:**
Both the Tapatalk and Push systems are already fully Android compatible. This will make getting the Android app up and running a LOT easier.

I was going to request push notifications when the team is announced but I see you have already thought of that.

Thanx.

Would be perfect if you could highlight with green a player who comes into the team that week. Orange for a player who switches positions. List dropped or injured players in red?

I'd love to be a tester.

Awesome Kul! If you need an overseas iPhone beta tester, I'm your man!
It's all looking hunky dory tho! Super pumped to get my hands on it.
Any room to add direct mp4s of both the 2009 & 2010 top ten tries vids somewhere (ala like the haka video in the free All Blacks App - check it out to see what I mean)?
I'm guessing that would be breaching copyright so maybe not….?? Might be worth investigating??

The app is as ready as it can be. Just waiting on Kaiser to finish the new site before submitting it for approval.

If it's not launched before the trials i'd be happy to show people at the cambo or foundation cup game.

In the mean time I've been working on a new component in the app that *could* revolutionise the way we interact as RL fans! It's not limited to just WT fans, but league-wide.
early days….
