Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

Just to clarify my last post. Because i know there are many who get very sensitive and protective of Robbie, and any comment you make about him that has negative connotations means you hate his guts, so i just want to make what i'm saying come across a little clearer.

Every team in the comp has certain players the opposition doesn't like, even us. Yes, i know that's hard to believe but its true. There actually are players in our side that people look at the same way people here would look at Steve Matai, Michael Ennis, Justin Hodges, or any other player who are only liked by their teams fans. Over the yrs, i've found that Farah has been one of those players. Doesn't mean i've liked him any less, but i haven't always looked at him through Black, White and Orange glasses either.

Funny you should mention those 3, I've lost count of how many times I've heard that Hodges, Matai and Ennis are top blokes on the other side of the stripe…

Never heard that about Farah.

As for players & loyalty- when was the last player to sign for less because of 'loyalty'?

The game is now a profession. These guys are paid to play. And like in any business, they can take it to whoever will pay them- and across the NRL & Super League, they do.

Loyalty doesn't exist. It's a barely recognisable consideration in modern football. And fans only ever use it to support keeping players & forget all about it when it comes to poaching from other teams.

No doubt, in time, the Tigers will have to either pay up big to keep Tapou, Brooks, Moses, Tedesco etc- or they will play elsewhere. But it will have very, very little to do with 'loyalty'.

Tedesco last year thank god….. More to stick by his mates than the club, so doesn't happen often but it still happens... thank god

CG,I think your absolutely right…these days loyalty means nothing...the almighty dollar speaks the loudest...after all it is only a very short career, and they have to make the most of it...

Loyality may be dead to you but I dont think you can speak on behalf of the players. Why on earth do you think Tedesco stayed??? Brooks, Tedesco, Moses. and Woods have all been approached by other clubs and chose to stay - with a club that they are attached to - all have spoken about how they feel about the club. Thank god they did because cant see anyone else lining up to come here. Taylor and co can talk all they like about changing culture and mixing with the likes of the Roosters and the big boys but the reality is we dont have the CAPITAL to do that - and until we do the culture of this club is to look after our own or someone else will. It makes me laugh when people think that letting Farah go is going to change anything, other than to weaken our roster and strengthen someone elses. To pay Farah to play somewhere else and lose a quality player without replacing him does my head in. Agree to disagree.

Telltails, they are staying because we are probably paying them way more now than what they would have been offered elsewhere..and if you are realistic besides Woods and Teddy, the halves havent produced anything spectacular yet,but are showing glimpses,at another club with their form they could have been playing reggies…remember people saying that they were overhyped because they showed brilliance in NYC,different scenario in the NRL...having said that they are still developing....

Teddy stayed because of his mates more than loyalty to the club…
And I'll think you'll find Woods stayed because the money was right as much as anything.

No need to get upset about it mate.

Why did Tedesco stay? How much are the Tigers paying him now? Yes, there will be the odd occasion where 'wanting' to play somewhere will come into it. Probably when the difference between one contract value & another are negligable. I can imagine that Brooks, Moses & Woods are paid quite well for their level of play to stay at the Tigers. Just as I imagine when their contract runs out the Tigers will need to up the money to them, or someone else will.

At no point have I said the Tigers will be 'better' without Robbie Farah in the short term. This is, I think, where the "Robbie supporters" are getting it wrong. Removing Robbie Farah does not immediately fix the problems at the Tigers. But, for the lack of a better way to put it, long term this club needs a change in mindset that I'm not sure that the Sheens Era players can adapt.

All sporting teams, in time, go through a clean-out. The Tigers have taken a while to get to that, but it seems Taylor is prepared to fast track that by 'bravely' removing players from the club that may not fit, long term, in what the club is trying to do 'culture wise'.

Sometimes, you just need to start fresh, or there will always be a lingering issue around the place. This club has had this issue for a NUMBER of years. It's not just in Potter & Taylor's time. this goes back to when the Tigers dropped off after 2005\. Tim Sheens & Co did a fantastic job of building a tem to win 2005\. They also did a poor job of realising that they couldn't sustain that level of play with the players they retained. They tried to be the 2005 Tigers after Scott Prince left- and could never, ever replicate that. moves like this should have come years ago. Potter sounds like he tried to do it to a degree.

Taylor has, in fact, done it since he came in.

It's surely a balance - right money versus right location. If you want to be somewhere but they don't have the money, you probably don't go. And some clubs have such good money on offer, you can't turn it down.

But that's not just about club loyalty, it's also loyalty to your mates. Did Tedesco want to stay because he loves WT as a brand, or because he wanted to play with his good mates? That can be a great thing, keeping players in sides, but a boy's club can also be the undoing of a team, esp if the management try to break it up.

I don't think it's quite reasonable to say a player stayed due to loyalty to the club, at the expense of money, because I reckon it's less about brand and more about colleagues, plus other non-salary considerations: nice place to work, colleagues / friends, fringe benefits, lifestyle, business perks etc. That being said, there is a theoretical dollar value for all non-salary aspects of your employment, and at the right price, any form of loyalty or perk can be overcome.

I would expect that for Tedesco, whatever more money Raiders offered, it was close to, but not quite enough to convince him to honour his agreement.

Tedesco is the most loyal bloke I know. Loyal to the club and his mates. Money had nothing to do with him signing.

With us I mean, not the Raider's contract, ours.

If Tedesco wanted to stay for his mates, that contract saga would never have dragged like it did and he'd have never signed for Canberra in the first place. He signed under the expectation that players like Mansour, Ennis and Proctor would also sign, but when they all turned the other way on the Raiders, he realized the mistake he made.

You sure…

In a statement, Tedesco said: “I firstly need to apologise to the Canberra Raiders for my change of heart. They have been great throughout the whole process.
>
“That said, I never felt totally comfortable with my decision and after thinking it through I realised it would be too hard to leave my best mates.

The fact also Teddy took considerably less coin to stay shows a deal of loyalty....Farah's involvement may need to be considered here given the circumstances...

I'm sorry GNR but you are totally wrong here. Teddy felt unwanted by the Tigers as they initially didn't formally offer him a contract. Canberra did and it was substantial. They made him feel wanted. Tigers finally put an offer together but it was cold. Also, Don't you all remember when Benji and Anasta took Teddy for a round of golf which sealed his decision to go upon their advise. It was the intervention of Robbie when he came back from Origin that convinced him to stay for less.

I'm telling you these boys are the most tightest-knit group of sports players I've ever seen! Every second day i see them on Instagram of Twitter Posting Pics and Messages about going out and enjoying themselves. IF we keep all these youngsters till 2017 we will be a top 4 side.

Good news for all those that want Robbie over the club, you can join others at ten am on Tuesday at Concord for a get together.

I will be working not too far away, so if anyone is really distraught, just PM and I will bring some tissues.

Hang on to them for next year in case Taylor gets the arse too.
Otherwise we will need them for when Marty, Teddy, Woods and Moses leave…..

Do you think farah situation at tigers is similar to what media was saying about gallen at sharks last week. How gallen had a large amount of touches in the game and basically done nothing with the ball and is playing his halves out of the game… Is farah our gallen??

Also people doing rallys for farah seriously get a life and try to use your time for something more meaningful..
