Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

JT has consistently identified defence as a major area for improvement, which of course nobody could disagree with.
Assuming RF can be offloaded at a price that leaves us enough cash to make a modest purchase or 2, I would be interested to know what the coach has in mind in terms of realistic recruitment options that could at least move us in the direction of a respectable defensive line.

Pretty simple for Farah . Daley has already said he will pick him from reggies for SOO .
He has a 2 year contract - if halfway through next year we are still languishing on the bottom Taylor will be gone and he will be where he belongs - the heart of the team.

Laurie daley coming out and stating he will pick Farah for origin even if hes playing reserve grade is a very very embarrassing situation for the tigers.

Actually, I think that is embarrassing for Daley. No thought, just running on emotion to support a member of the SOO little boys club.

Isnt this the same Laurie Daley who kept on picking Ennis because he said Robbie wasnt tough enough for Origin????

So you think that is the way to conduct yourself as a Coach ? when Farah still has 2 years left on his deal to threaten him that if he stays at our Club he will be in Reserve Grade WOW!!!

I think Taylor and the club have conducted themselves reasonably well and it appears someone has leaked something to the media. It is evident that Farah has known of this decision for some time.

With regard to Taylor's conduct, he has made a call and has acted accordingly with the board's support. He probably has two options with regard to executing the call:

1\. Say nothing and just drop Farah to NSW Cup after 2016 pre season training; or
2\. Approach Farah and inform him of the decision in order to allow Farah the time and opportunity to play first grade elsewhere.

Which option provides Farah the most respect? Which option did Taylor take?

A few here seem to confuse the _actual_ decision with the club's conduct. The decision was hard to make and reports now suggest the board debated it for some time. The decision is just part of running a football club.

Daley has been picking reserve graders for years

If Taylor has the kahunas to drop him, the ego of R Farah wouldn't survive a week before he walked out on his contract.

Now, whether Taylor has enough friends on his team to actually make that decision, only time will tell.

Of course it is a decision that all clubs need to make but due to timing, it left Robbie with next to no options in the NRL, which is not good for our club because now if he does get picked up it will be for next to nothing and we will still have to pay most of his salary to play somewhere else.It made our club look bad in the eyes of every player in the competition - love him or hate him - he is one of this clubs champions and and history will always show that - the irony from that being we want to free up cash by ditching Robbie to attract other players to our club. And finally because Robbie still has aspirations to play SOO if no one picks him up and he digs his heels in and stays- the destabilising effect on the club knowing that the coach has threatened to play him in reserve grade will ensure another rubbish year for our team with the real risk of us losing any of our current decent players. So whether you support the move or not - the club once again in its attempt to fix one mess has created another one.

Press reports are saying he was told quite a few weeks ago. The club also seems resigned and not really concerned they will be paying out a substantial portion of his contract.

And Farahs camp say they had an inkling but it was not confirmed - hence him being shopped around over the past six weeks. But the smart clubs will know - why sign him now when at the end of the competition when the club are desperate to be rid of him - which seems to be the case - he comes even cheaper. No beef with your opinion - just frustrated with the constant dramas with this club, one step forward three steps back.

Robbie is the current (when not injured) NSW nine and is under contract for a further two years. He has now also become available to other clubs at a substantial discount, and generally accepted that this has been the case for six weeks or so.

It appears fair to say that clubs are not exactly clambering over each other to pick him up at say half the contract amount. There must be reasons for it, which even his most ardent supporters must admit, so let's not crucify the current club officials for what seems to be a reasonable decision to correct past mistakes.

It is embarrassing for the club to compromise the selection process by suggesting to a player you will play reserve grade if you chose to stay at a club. Now you make think this is reasonable but I am sure the average supporter would come to the conclusion this is not fair play especially when you are dealing with a player of Farah's profile. Resorting to this tactic is the last bastion of the scoundrel which is consistent with Taylor's history.

That is true but dont you feel that at this stage just about every club has done their main buying for next season especially for a quality player,i doubt anyone would have a spare 500k

Thank you, I never saw myself as an average supporter.

If Robbie was made available at the beginning of the year when Foran, Cherry Evans, Scott etc were all going through their contractual decisions and when clubs had room in their salary cap to move - he would of attracted a lot of interest. The club were well aware of their finances back then and the problems they faced in meeting contractual obligations - yet when Taylor bombs as a coach - Farah becomes a bigger target- ie history with coaches and his reported 'ego" yadahyadha. Farah maybe a problem but he still has been treated poorly by the club. His value is being measured by the monetary value of the last two years of his contract and not what he has been paid to play for the past two years.

It is ridiculous to think that at this time of year clubs are going to have 500k up their sleeve.

Its this lack of respect for the way the club has gone about this that people are upset about.

Ive been one of his biggest critics but even i can see what they club have done here is wrong. Whats more i have to laugh at how inept they are in that they cant even sack a player to ease the salary cap the right way.

The most he can get is 250-300k at this stage of the year. Had they done it earlier they would have saved themselves up to 400k.

You can buy a pretty decent player for 400k,

You make it work… Clubs have plenty of means of stretching there cap to fit in Farah regardless how exhausted they are.

He isnt as well like outside of the Tiggers.

Only club I can think of who might have some money spare would be the Titans , but I believe they already have come out and said no already

In my view, to say that the way the club (Moss and Taylor) went about handling Farah's planned exit lacked respect ignores the facts. From what has been reported, the club did everything in its power to handle this very discreetly for the very reason of showing Farah respect. Once again, the media created the circus and once again WT was blindsided by that and didn't handle it well.
