Happy - by your comments you seem to be assuming that this is all about salary cap management.

It seems to me to be about a lot more than that. It seems to be about JT and the board flexing their muscles and asserting control over the team, and its future direction.

I don't think Robbie should assume talk of reserve grade is an idle threat - he may find himself running around Henson Park next year.

Its both I believe

The board and Taylor look to be making a statement , but they will try and get as much as possible to create some cap space as well

But the WT's will look even worse out of all of this if Farah stays and they drop him to NSW Cup

Just remember every NRL player is watching what happens in this case and any decision they might wish to make whether coming to the WT's or avoiding us like the plague depends to a degree on how this is all handled

Especially seeing we don't have an official CEO overseeing it

I'm confused. Is this discussion about JT or Robbie?

Everyone wanted the so called 'boys club' to be gone, for the player power that made the club to be a laughing stock to be gone. I can go back to threads from 3-4 years ago when ppl were shouting for this to happen.

And now that it happens (albeit half a decade too late), people want to crucify the guy who has instigated it.

JT may get us our first spoon, be the worst coach we have ever had, but one thing he can take some credit for is instigating off field changes that us fans (the same people demanding he be sacked over this) have prayed for since the Tim Sheens days.

Robbie has been my favourite player for the past 10 years, a source of pride amongst our Lebanese community, and a warrior in black, white, and gold. But if his release means we turn over a new leaf, get to secure Cherrington for a few more years, and are a more cohesive unit on and off the field, then I am 100% for this move.

And if Robbie loves this club as much as I think he does, he won't be here next year. The atmosphere around he place will be poisonous and we will likely have another Mick Potter scenario unfold.

Potter instigated change and was crucified.

If he's having a negative impact on the team then they can't pick him in firsts. His ego probably won't accept this but his manager needs to tell him is a real possibility. It's his career on the line here.

Do you really think they would allow a player on almost 1 million to play in reserve grade? Lets be grown ups and put our thinking caps on for a minute.

Yes, I think it is a definite possibility. JT has drawn a line in the sand. My guess is that if JT is still coach next year, Robbie won't be anywhere near first grade.

It is probably a matter of Robbie versus JT, and JT seems to have the support of the board.

I've posted this in another thread:

The current situation is unpalatable, but respectable from my view as we have a board that is willing to make unpopular changes in order to change the poor direction this club has taken.

If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

It's a shame that Farah and the club will part ways like this, but it will do both parties the favour. We don't look any more likely getting to the finals next year with things as they are, and Farah will not get another premiership continuing with us as it is.

Sports is a unique business field as emotion is an inherent part of the make up. People belong to a team, it's sold to us that way. I would consider this forum like a huge dysfunctional family. Many people that are on here I've shared jokes with, laughed with, argued with, insulted and been insulted by, some I've even developed cherished friendships with, are a constant part of my life.

That said, like anything in life, sometimes things don't work out the way we'd planned and sometimes it really hurts. Your first love leaving you, the best mate you lose contact with, the family member that passes on well before they are meant to. Some of things are well within our control, some are not. None are never easy to deal with.

It hurts now, and understandably, but the move isn't totally senseless. I know that this club in the past has had form being recklessly stupid but with more credentials this time around I am certain they have the clubs, and our, best interests at heart. Corporate black marks are hard to shake off.

"With risk comes great reward."

Vamos a los Oeste Tigres!

Measured and thoughtful

You may be right. I can't see it myself personally.

Happy - there is a lot at stake, especially for JT and the board. If it is true that Robbie has been threatened with reserve grade if he stays, then how could we continue to play him in first grade next year? JT and the board would be a laughing stock - the damage to their credibility would be immense.

That's why I don't think that the threat is idle.

Wholeheartedly agree with all this

For better or worse, the club has taken a stance and must be prepared to stick to it. More importantly, Robbie must be made to understand that they are prepared to stick to it. The first job that needs to be done after the season finishes is to publicly select the new skipper. (I hope this will be Rowdy). This will clearly demonstrate to all, (read Robbie), that the decision is made. If Robbie elects to stay, which he is obviously entitled to do, then he'll do so as 'just another player' and one who may well be trotting out in Reggies. I hope like hell this doesn't happen. I hope that Robbie is picked up by another club on good coin, and that he goes on to play out his career as a champion which is what he deserves.
Sadly, it just can't be at this club.
And for the record, I think this has been the right decision. Robbie, despite his passion and previous brilliance, is not the player he was. He appears to be a divisive character and personally from what I have observed, has not been a great skipper. He has allowed himself to become involved in the politics of the organisation which no player, particularly the skipper, should ever do. He has at times behaved way out of line.
I know he has given his all to the club for over a decade, and no doubt he believes he has always acted in the club's interest - I just don't think he has. Rather, he has acted in the best interests of Robbie Farah. Most times those interests have coincided, but sometimes they have been at odds.
He will always be one of my favourite players. But I love this club more and I truly believe the club's decision is the right one. Once again, however, true to form, the way it has been done leaves so much to be desired. But if things went smoothly, it just would be the Wests Tigers!

Some people are just assuming he is going to leave.

Does not look there are any takers?? His manager has had 6 weeks to come with an offer and there is nothing doing. Farah doesnt want to go to England so where does that leave him?

So is he a better then 50% of staying? He is not going to walk away from 900K if he cant find a club. We surely cant afford to pay him out in full and just retire him.

So whats to stay he has no choice but to saty. And if so if Taylor does banish him what sort of turmoil will we be in all off season and pre season with this stroy hanging over everyones heads

Could turn out very embarrassing for all if Robbie has no where to go.

Give it a couple days. If clubs know they'll only have to pay a third of his contract they'll be all over him. Clubs like the Titans and Manly (who have Foran's money don't forget) would happily accommodate him imo.

The board is a laughing stock already, to late for ifs
To sack someone and then to try and sell him off when the teams caps are mostly full for next year says it all about these lightweights. They can't even backstab someone properly.

No doubt he'll be training with anybody but the first graders. How long will he last doing that? He's not really prone to taking setbacks well. If England is his only choice he'll have to take it.

Farah has 2 years left on his contract and so does JT. I'd rather see JT punted and Farah installed as captain/coach.

Without Farah, Tedesco would no longer be at the club!! JT is a knob who doesn't understand loyalty. It was a mistake to hire JT. To me it seems JT is just scrambling trying to save himself. The sooner we punt JT the better off we will be.

Who has been sacked, Goldcoast Tiger?[/

We're going to get pedantic are we??
They have effectively sacked him from the firsts and the fact that he still will get his owed money doesn't change that
He is the first grade captain, the first grade hooker and he has been sacked from both .
Good enough now Ink.
And as I said, they can't even do that do that properly.

hes the captain.
if Taylor can do this to the captain, no one is safe
If Taylor can do this to the captain - at this time of the year - there is NO respect for him or the team or the fans
Everything Taylor has said and done this year has been Sh*t and failed miserably
How many years is Taylor contracted for ???????
can a team file for a non confidence vote against the coach and if so how do we do it ????
How do we stop Taylor from killing **our** careers and this club ???

How do we stop Taylor from killing _OUR_ careers?
That little slip raises some questions.

Who are you?, you only joined today, a disgruntled player perhaps, Robbie or Moltzen….

Hey PrattenPark, What about Beau Ryan? bobo beaubeau Just a thought. Not that it matters.

Possibly NT…. Not sure what 125 in bobo125 represents, beau played 126 NRL games so maybe it is and he can’t count
