Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

Point taken BUT clubs wont be able hide behind the cloak of the salary cup as an excuse. This way, the club will have to call it for what it is.

This is a perfect example of why the salary cap needs to exclude players from the cap who have come through their junior ranks and allow them to be one club players. Irrespective that it's Robbie Farah, I think that the NRL should try and save the "One Club Player" breed because the way they're going, that breed will be non existent for our kids and their kids to see.

I agree mate, but I don't think this is about the Salary Cap.

I highly doubt there is much harmony at the moment. Farah has this belief he is an 80min Dummy Half and others have a different opinion. Previous seasons indicate that Robbie likes to get his way. I'm guessing by the statement from the club this is a mutual agreement!

Robbie has been treated harshly but this year he has played like a 200k player and not a 900k player, age is catching up with the champ

Sad, but true. He was lapped by Ennis on Saturday in terms of impact and influence on result. One game doesn't determine a club's response but Robbie has been a shadow of himself for the last two years….albeit with significant injuries playing their part.

There would seem no way he will get $900K per year contract elsewhere, his stature in the game is diminished through performance and tarnished through rumour and speculation. So WT will be paying some of his new contract for sure.

Maybe he's about to learn his true value as a professional footballer at his current career stage. I imagine he will just go to the highest bidder (or lowest despite the pain for WT....there's speculation again).

Legends are made over time though and Robbie is, and always will be, a legend of WT.

Hmmmm - interesting!
Personally, I don't think Farah has been a great player for 4 years.
I certainly don't think he is worth $900K a season. However, for this to work out,
we would need some team to pay him at least 2/3 of his salary or frankly, it's probably not worth letting his experience walk out the door.
However, the dye is cast, and this will happen.
Keep Lawrence and put the C behind his name!

I hadnt seen this till today but as far as i am concerned the club is sending all the wrong messages by this decision. For all his faults Robbie has been the mainstay of our club for a decade and has been our captain for years. He is not in his best form but is still our best option at hooker arguably one of the most vital positions on the field.
To make it worse we will probably have to pay the majority of his contract for the next 2 years to make up the difference. The board and Taylor may have bought themselves more time but any respect i had for them is gone

This is a business when you are running it and so it should be. I will be passionate and care for them when they wear a Tigers jersey and will always be thankful to Robbie for the time he gave to the club but business decisions need to be made. We are coming last, we have been in the bottom 2 or 3 the last 2 yrs before this. He is our highest paid player by a long shot and will be 32 at the start of next year. He won't be getting better because players don't at this age.

2 years ago v this year (18 games v 15)
Ave Runs - 6.6 v 4.6
Ave Meters - 63 v 46
Try Assists - 14 v 5
LB - 6 v 1
LBA - 11 v 4
TB - 29 v 13
Offloads- 17 v 13
Tackles - 39 v 34
Errors- 12 v 16
Pen -16 v 11

So really in every stat other then penalties conceded he has become a significantly worse player then he was and significantly below what you need for that kind of money.

He will always be a Tigers Life Member and Legend but contracts are business and we arent winning games and Robbie has been allowed to change the coach twice so now its time to change the star player because he isn't a star anymore

I do find it ironic that a significant bunch of forummers run the line "it's business, take the emotion out", but they will jump up and down watching the game this weekend, happy as Larry if we win and very disappointed if we lose.

So watching the team play is an emotional experience, but the makeup of the team is not? You don't care who it is representing us, so long as they are wearing a WT jersey?

I don't like this decision one bit. I understand the explanation, but I don't support it. Farah's had maybe two ordinary half-seasons in 10 years and some supporters are so quick to see the back of him, because he is 31 and we are running last. We have two state-rep players and we are ready to offload one of them because someone decided to pay him a bit too much money a few years ago.

I also fear that this is the action of a new board / coach / GM that wants to sure up it's own position at the expense of a player. Why not get rid of a stalwart if it buys you a few more years in the job?

For all those who are happy that Farah might leave: I hope you are ready for the backlash if Farah comes roaring back into form in another set of NRL colours.

Thats a bit rich, people have been super critical of the new board/ coach/ GM for most of this year. You have done nothing but defend these guys. Perhaps now you are seeing what you cant see in a stat.

No doubt about this for me, Taylor is a big part of this decision, they can claim its all salary cap but all ive seen since he has come in a coach so unsure of himself that he is systematically removing anyone from the club who may expose him. We will run around with an under 20's team and bunch of plodders who are loyal to the coach because he keeps selecting them when others wouldnt.

As for Farah, im not convinced he is past it, i think his issues have been personal and i have no doubt at all he will kill it for another club.

12 Months to late … this is the best news I have heard all season ,today is not the day to have a say ....was hesitating next years membership but am now looking forward to watching the young tigers starting a new era it will be a rocky road but a positive one and I thought the board did not have what it takes well done!

32 next yr, and his best days well and truly behind him. There's a lot more upside than downside in letting him loose. Take out the sentimental factor and its a no brainer.

100% agree. Great decision by the club.

Have the two of you ever considered a sensitivity workshop? The pair of you have made a series of comments in extremely poor form about one of our best.

Perhaps I am just getting old.

I reckon this might be true. We are coming dead last. JT has been a dud. Maybe this is the fall out of a terrible season.

Disgraceful decision letting Robbie go imo. Has been the heart and soul of the club for years. We will be fielding a team of Kindergarten kids the next couple of years :crazy

Totally agree….
Disgrace instead of more senior players needed where getting rid of them,,,
No long term loyalty.

I can't help but feel devastated about this.

This club is a deadset disgrace. Seriously, if you were a player why would you come here after you see this happen to a club legend who has given his all get permission to walk because your administration have ruined the salary cap?

If I was Tedesco for example, I'd be thinking…sure, they want me here while I'm the new top gun just like Robbie was, but in 10 years time they're going to do the same to me when I started getting a bit slower and can't fend off 5 guys with each kick return and show no loyalty and fend me off when they run into money trouble.

Sure, I get it, it's professional sport. Robbie hasn't earnt his $900,000 for the past 2 seasons, but he is a club legend and legends don't die. He'll be back and probably kill it with a club who has their stuff together with a decent pack behind him. He's carried this side for over a decade, I don't blame the guy for a couple of off seasons. He's still the best hooker in NSW.

Look around at the top teams rosters. The Roosters, Broncos, Storm, Souths, Bulldogs, Cowboys all seem to be able to fit big names in their cap, another reason why Harry should buy this club. Every other decent club has a way to make them fit. But no, we're stuck with Farah, Woods and Taupau as our current rep players and we're now letting potentially our best player walk away to fix our cap. It's a joke.

The club should honour the deal in the first place. Make your bed, then lie in it.

Lawrence will be next, finally moved to the back row where he should've been for a long time and showing us he still has something great to offer and has the trademarks to be our Luke Lewis and we'll shuffle him off too.

Taupau will probably leg it, don't blame the guy.

Then what. Who wants to come to this club? Who if even off contract with the same value as Farah? Resigning nuffies like Lovett isn't the answer.

I'm sorry for venting my frustration, but for a club I've followed since I was a kid, this just doesn't make sense, I think it's a shocking move and I'm just so disappointed in the WT. I'm literally gutted.

Just told the 6,9 and 12 year old ( who are all mad WT supporters) It's like some has died here wow. They grew up with watching him.

Not happy chapies.First Benjie now Robbie from a kids perspective not good.

So is it fair to assume that Taylor does not want him? Or are these decisions being made by Moss and the board alone ? Lets just hope that Taylor has the support of the other players - if he has been part of this decision or the real fall out hasnt even begun. Lots on here seem to have an opinion held from afar about Farah and his relationships with people, the players probably know him a whole lot better. Not sure how this is going to play out - the performance on the field this weekend will probably speak volumes.

My opinion is that the new board is a different animal and Farah has underestimated them.

Farah would have retired a Wests Tiger under the old boys board.
Again, it is only my opinion but I think Farah believes that swapping Potter for JT was a mistake considering our current ladder position, and that he was making noise about getting rid of the coach again.

Just my opinion, but this board won't have a bar of it. Seems to fit with comments that Farah runs this club.
