Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

I'd love to know where the club is at with this whole saga. Are meetings scheduled for this week ? Or is it all on the back burner … Surely not ???

Look, I'm curious also, but surely the club would be smarter to keep everything quiet. I thought we did pretty well with "no leaks" until recently.

CEO said it was the most urgent matter when he came on board and repeated that last week but as at this stage Robbie is still contracted but has permission to negotiate then what do they have to meet about its just a matter of waiting if Robbie either finds another team or otherwise he comes back to training with everyone else. What else is their to do ?

Also I would doubt the Tigers or any organisation would provide a running commentary of when they are in the future talking to their players in detail

The world's greatest NRL grand final quiz
Wests Tigers legend Robbie Farah has been advised via a letter from the club's new chief executive that he's effectively on probation and his ability to continue training with the club's NRL squad in 2016 depends upon his behaviour - and performance - over the next few months.

Farah was also advised by CEO Justin Pascoe he faced the ignominy of having his attitude and approach to pre-season training appraised by coach Jason Taylor and club officials at an especially convened meeting on December 22.

If he doesn't cut the mustard the veteran of almost 250 NRL games in Wests Tigers colours - and who has a $1.9 million contract with the club for two more years - will be told he can no longer train with the top squad.

Fairfax Media understands Farah was handed the letter on September 30 when he, his barrister Julieanne Levick and manager Sam Ayoub met Taylor, Pascoe, the club's legal counsel and chairwoman Marina Go at a meeting that was convened at the footballer's behest.

Farah wanted to be told to his face the reasons for the way in which he has been treated since it was reported in August that he was not wanted by Taylor. It's understood Levick found the reasons aired at the meeting by Taylor were based on hearsay and lacked corroboration.

When news of the September 30 meeting was leaked, Levick said it concerned "procedural fairness" because despite the speculation concerning the reasons behind Taylor's controversial decision, Farah claimed all he was told by the club was he'd play out his contract in the NSW Cup should he remain at the joint-venture club.

Pascoe, who assumed the chief executive's role after the drama erupted, wrote the letter that just before Christmas the club would revisit the issues that concerned Taylor.

It's understood Levick has also challenged the way in which the club has handled the situation, saying Farah hadn't received one breach notice to respond to Taylor's claims - as normal procedure dictates.

The Wests Tigers were also asked to explain if Farah's behaviour was of such a concern for club management why had they failed in their duty of care to consider Farah's welfare and take the appropriate steps needed to find out what was wrong.

While the December 22 meeting will decide if he can continue to train with the squad and challenge for a first grade spot, Farah was advised by Pascoe that the opportunity was still available for him to seek alternative employment should he wish to seek the opportunity to play elsewhere in the NRL.

While Farah's future is murky it was made clear in Pascoe's correspondence that the captaincy remains in question.

He was informed that as a result of Taylor's concern that the club should be looking to build for the long-term future, it had been decided that management would review both the captaincy and the leadership group within the club

Another two months to wait and find out …. Nothing like a bit of suspense is there.
Wonder if it will be a happy Christmas for all concerned ? I hope so.

Taylor should do the honourable thing and walk.
He adds no value to this organisation.
The fans voted overwhelmingly at Campbelltown when he was Booed and the Robb-ie chant was ringing around the stadium.

Asked if this meant Farah had won the day over Taylor, Pascoe responded: "I don't believe so. I think Jason Taylor, like any coach, will find in managing men there are going to be differences of opinion.

"It's not about who's got power and who hasn't got power.

"Our position hasn't changed as an organisation. Robbie Farah, as we stand now, is a required member."

Taylor to serve. New balls, please.

The captaincy issue is an interesting one. Some individuals like Alan Border, Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh thrive on the responsibility and it takes their game to new heights. Even arguably Paul Gallen played his best footy when he took on the added responsibility.

For others it detracts from what they're good at. Tendulkar and Brian Lara are reasonable examples of this. The added responsibility impedes what they were bought in the team for.

It might be a bit late but I think removing the captaincy from Ribbie may actually invigorate him again. By all reports, he can be moody and broods after a loss - not a great trait for a leader. With the added responsibility removed, he may once again become an attacking, creative player. The skills he really bought to the team.

It could be a blessing in disguise

I whole heartedly agree. Pascoe indicated in his most recent statement that the club may consider grooming a new captain to take the club into the future. I don't believe that Aaron Woods is suited to captaincy. This may surprise most people but I think that Luke Brooks would make a very good captain.

The ridiculous rumours about this club are becoming embarrassing…

There would have to be some basis. Perhaps on advice from Wests he has been plotting how he and Wests can win the NSW State Cup next season and he found the Walker brothers….

I'd say Gallen's improvement had more to do with what was in the sports drinks rather than the captaincy, but on the whole I agree with your post.

Lawrence next.

Lawrence would be the ideal captain for this club. He embodies everything you want your club to represent and has always carried himself with class. People forget he was being groomed as Farah's successor before the hip injury. His future at the club is up in the air though, so that probably affects his chances. Long term though, what about Brooks?

I havent been a fan of Lawrence the centre for a few years now, but I have to admit I have always been impressed by Lawrence the man. It could be a genius stroke to name him captain, seeing he isnt on the field all game these days, he would have to pass the duties over when he is off the park, and thus be a great way to groom the real successor.

I think there are a few on here that have the odd wood in their mouth….maybe too frequently and its affecting their thinking.

Im still at a loss to work out what "Taylorball" is, other than a made up word that says more about those who use it, and apparently we would have easily made the top 4 with some other type of game plan. God knows we certainly had the right front office, plenty of money and third party deals , and the best roster in the competition.

"Taylorball" is style of football guaranteed to have you finishing equal last in the competition. Not rocket science to work it out!

Not true. The whole premise is to make it easier on the defence. Sides with stronger defence can play that style affectively. It's not for us though. But at the same time, we don't have to play a Sheens era style or the Walker bros style to be successful like so many seem to think.

We will improve in 2016, we have to.

Does that mean that if we don't, then we didn't have to

I am now up to page 74 of this thread. I think that supposed putting Robbie under probation is the backdown. Nothing will change next year, the sideshow is over.

BTW, is it worth reading the next 100 pages?

"Taylorball" was someone's retort to me calling what Sheenious had us playing Benjiball and how spectacularly successful that was
