Robert Lui Incident/Contract Thread

Raises more questions re culture and responsibility. What sort of support do the Tigers have in place for someone like Lui, 20 years old, from a diferent state, still only quite young, For a Kid from Townsville, sydney's bright lights and clubs mad monday drinking cultre, why is this a surprise? Don't get me wrong, if he is found guilty, I want him gone, but I just can't help but think, his situation might be influenced by his age, sudden fame,out drinking with the boys, comes home leggless and makes a tool out of himself.
Where was his mentor, does he have one? Did the club warn all its players to behave off the field or else?
On the Pis* not a good look.
 
This is so sad on many levels: the tiges possibly losing a very talented player, the fact that he (allegedly) did such a cowardly thing and the inevitable connection with alcohol, a terrible end to an otherwise scandal-free season when the boys did such a great job to finish third. I hope it doesn't end up being another Todd Carney story - we sack him and he becomes a superstar at another club. On the bright side - it solves the problem of where to put Molz next season!
 
what a dud way to end his 1st full season… almost make it into the grandfinal...everyone was talking him up... and the blood gets to his head, rekons he's ontop of the world... and this happends... lets hope for his and the clubs sake its not as bad as it seems....though it is innocent until proven guilty...

i was thinking the same thing, i know there has to be a huge amount of self respoinsibility but the club should understand that the young guys might not know how to handle the huge disappointment and lots of alcohol.

Its easy to say all this in hindsight
 
With this additional information, I can now agree that if he is in fact found guilty of the charges then there is no choice but to give him the flick.

Very disappointing - especially considering the odds are that he would come back in a few years and carve up for another club.

i don't think any club would want a low life like that, be it now or in the future.. :imp:
 
but also if someone is cut from the club, shouldnt they be cut from the NRL im sick of other clubs benefiting from these situations, Roosters must already been keen and ready to sign him.
I really think he should be retained , provided rehab, intensive counselling, and actually treating the problem at its core.
if the tigers also need to implement a 0 drinking clause, do it.

By the age of 20, Lui should know how to handle alcohol. Most teenagers these days start drinking around 16/17\. I've had an experience myself where I drank way too much and ended up passing out and throwing up everywhere. Since then I have known my limit and have stopped myself from drinking too much. There's no excuse for what he has done (if in fact he has done it).
 
Unfortunately there are some serious charges in those levelled at Lui, enough for him to do jail time if found guilty. I hope this is not the case but this is going to attract plenty of media attention now, and for all the wrong reasons unfortunately.

The only place for him to be doing rehab and counselling is at long bay.

How about the fact that an innocent pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted? And the fact that it is representative of a broader problem in society? Us losing Louis pales into comparison.

Yeah, I thought the same as well. She may be pregnant again, but I'm sure it was only a month ago that he became a father. Doesn't make much difference to the charges, but may be a bit of media sensationalism with the addition of the 'pregnant' part to the story.

And yes, pregnant or not, violence against women or anyone for that matter is terrible, and those guilty should be punished accordingly.
 
Very Sad day for the club and all involved. His playing future shouldn't even be on the table at this stage be it with us or anyone else. Something to be considered at the end of whatever happens. The damage has already been done and making rash decisions won't do anything to turn back time.

There was a story a few weeks ago where he attributed his his good form to his impending parenthood- shes due early next year

I think a fine would be the least of his worries.
