Round 1 Thoughts

Played one of the front runners. We were great the first half and terrible the 2nd. They won off our errors rather than dominating. It won't get any easier next week against another quality side, and if we make the same errors and they don't it will be more of the same.

I don’t understand why every other team that’s had bad runs in the past (Knights, Eels, Panthers) can just revamp their team and become some of the better teams in the comp, yet we go through player after player, combination after combination and it always turns to crap.

I’m sick of signing average players and pretending like they’ll turn us into a premiership threat when 1 in every 5 of them pans out.

Knights got Klemmer, Frizel, Ponga, Pearce and they become a strong team. We sign a bunch of “young guns” that don’t pan out or leave and mid tier players who do the same.

Same story every year

Problem is , they don't play the young guns, and this forum wants to protect the young creatures, give me a break and give them a go!

Omg do I agree with this!!! Every young player we have all you see on here is we need to give them time to grow,,, nah , hell no, the time is now and we need to start aiming up and winning some footy games.... it’s like the young guys remaining untried allows all us tigers tragic to just live in hope that next year maybe better because we “have promise” rather than blooding the young guns and seeing that they maybe cannot cut it..... we seem to like the tiger still in the box rather than out on the field!

What are people’s thoughts on switching James Robert’s and Joey Leilua.

Then move Robert’s out to the wing and bring Tommy Talau into the centre’s, AJ out of the top 17?

Has to be done. We also need someone to replace Garner who has had a charmed run into 1st grade without ever really earning it.

our goal line defence was very good. numbered up and scrambled well. only issue was Mikaele the meathead allowing his fullback to tackle a 115kg front rower and not taking matters into his own hands.

our attack looked like it was in third gear all day. very little urgency. whether that was because we were hesitant with new combos and structure I don't know, but for the amount of speedy players we have now it was not good enough.

Brooks was a mixed bag. early general play kicking was horrendous but improved somewhat (I say somewhat because his attacking kicks were below average) with time. did some good things down the left side but looked clunky when he moved to the right. willing to give him another week with his regular halves partner before making a judgement.

Garner hopeless. can't defend side on. Blore will improve us tenfold.

very happy Daine Laurie is a tiger. he's a special one.

Stefano caught my eye, looks very very good. Joffa too.

Talau was exciting. should replace Leilua in the centres next week.

we need a second hooker. Liddle ran out of gas.

the quicker Musgrove gets back and Amone is fit the better. Mikaele is not a first grader.

I think we were ok, beat ourselves in the end. if you have a look at the Raiders tries, only 1 came from a defensive mishap, which was Laurie being thrown under the bus by Mikaele. saw enough to think we'll have a better year than some believe.

Joey is to big a liability, he could have been penalised more, you could see players pulling him back.

Really our own worst enemy today, can excuse errors but need to defend them a lot better. Tamou, Joffa and Luc all very strong, that’s really where it ends.
Doueihi will certainly make a difference but not enough to stop that

It’s amazing how some can write the side off after a first round loss to Canberra in Canberra. Five club debutants. 6-6 at half time, showing plenty of resilience. Yes we capitulate in the second half but come on, some of you guys need to give yourselves a good old fashioned uppercut.

I was happy with the look of the team. Defended strongly for long periods with dubious officiating. 2 tries from kicks and one from a loose pass. Nothing went in our favour today we were never going to win the game.

We will look much better with Douhiei, Blore, Simpkin and Tuki Simpkins in the team.

That is a crazy big and talented Raiders team. We aren't in their class.

But we weren't that bad. We won't play teams that huge every week and we won't be as fatigued as a result.

I take a lot of heart in the recruitment. Our best and brightest today were all recruited on Maguire's watch.

NO , Simkin was Madge, the rest were Hartigan. The plodders were Madge.

Semantics. My point was that almost all of our worst-performing players today were signed under Cleary.

Genuinely curious to know why you've gone in so hard to bat for Hartigan here? You're not a fan of Maguire's coaching of the team?

To be fair the defence in the first 30-40mins was great but it all imploded from there

That was the only positive to take from the game. Also, Luciano I thought was good in a beaten side.

AJ if he caught the first pass from Laurie scores drops it cold. In the second half he runs down the sideline with 3 players inside and throws a shocker and Raiders score. That’s 18 points there. Needs to finish as a winger.

I'm prepared to cut our attack some slack for another week - they played like they don;t know each other - which, with 5 club debutants (& Laurie only joined a month ago) is hardly surprising. Their timing and shape in attack was terrible.

Defensive structure however (inc. Nofo/ JtJ) was good, and they actually beat Canberra in the ruck for the most part with putting the tackled player on their back rather than on hands/ knees.

Garner has to go - Tuki Simpkins is 100% ready - get him in there.

BJ - borderline - I wouldn;t be upset if Talau replaces him in firsts.

The first half, we were generally the better of the 2 sides. Garner basically gifting them 12 points in the 5 minutes around half time broke us.

Brooks doesn;t seem to have changed much unfortunately which is a big worry - but madden/ ZDC in reserves were worse, which is more of a worry.

I very much doubt AJ would have scored. I thought the Raiders sliding defence had him covered regardless.

Yes it was a bad pass back into BJ. AJ Should have kicked it infield instead or taken the tackle. No guarantee it would have been a try. So maybe his errors cost the team 6 points.
