I would love to see Sue on the edge permanently. I thought he was excellent there two years ago.

Sue can be close to an 80 min player on the edge and, as one our true primary defenders, he can play the enforcer role to protect Brooks.

Josh had a very good first year but there would be no harm in having him play off the bench.

Having Sue on the edge significantly strengthens our 2nd row stocks which, as we all know, is a position we are light in. I feel we are well placed for front rowers - Woods, Ava, Grant, JJ, Tatola, Paseka - that it makes sense to be playing Sue out wide.

I agree..would you switch Sue to Brooks side in defence and pair Lawrence with Moses…?

I don't mind so much.

Both Brooks and Moses need better protection from their inside men. My view is Brooks has a better defensive technique than Moses but Moses is more willing to put his body on the line.

Lawrence and Moses may work better together given that Moses at least usually slows down an attacker which should give Lawrence the more time that he needs, given lateral speed is really Chris's only weak facet in defense.

When Brooks and Lawrence leak its usually because Brooks has gone for an arm grab giving Lawrence no time to come across to cover the break. Moses is also better at defending before the line.

But I expect that Lawrence will stay left side given he has played most of his career there.

I thought Josh Aloiai played well in the front row. The try before half time with the half sliding between Sue and Ava highlighted why Sue should play in tight and not wide. I thought Chee Kam was very impressive at right centre and our defence looked far more composed with him in that position. In the second half, B. Sironen combining with Idris on the left looked very solid. As it should be, we may see a changing of the guard through the year with Lawrence eventually moving to the interchange?

I only saw 20 mins of the trial. Wasn't sure what to take out of it as the 20 mins I saw (40 mins to 60 mins) was incredibly slow. It looked like the speed of local A grade game.

Robbie seems all charged up the clash - with our inside knowledge of his game our boys should be able to contain him.

We saw what inexperience can bring with Heleta last night… I'd hate for Suli to be thrown in too soon... Not easy for an outside back to be eased in.
Let him train with the squad... Throw him in at seasons end when were out of semis contention

Your last sentence cracked me up! not a lot of confidence.

Byron- he didnt say anything that any other player starting out at a new club doesn't say. He will be determined sure, big deal, every player on the field will be. Foxsports is the TV version of the Telegraph.

I hope we are still in contention but no, not a lot of confidence
Think well go close once again

What about his inside knowledge of our game?

Latrell Mitchell did it last year at the same age. They're both tall and comfortably over 100kg, it's not like you're throwing an 80kg weed out there.

Kalyn Ponga even got thrown into finals football at a similar age ;ast year and did just fine.

I know Mitchell and Ponga had more NYC experience but unfortunately we have limited options in our outside backs. Chuck him in there and see how he goes. If the pressure starts to get to him then you can always drop him back before his confidence takes too much of a hit.

So Suli is in our top 25? That is the only way he can be considered an option for round 1 isn't it?

Dunno
The 'Season 2017' section with the top 25 thread in it has disappeared

I suppose that even if he isn't at this stage, if Simona is stood down by the NRL then Suli will be elevated into the top 25 you would think.

1\. James Tedesco
2\. David Nofoaluma
3\. Jamal Idris
4\. Kevin Naiqama
5\. Moses Suli
6\. Mitchell Moses
7\. Luke Brooks
8\. Aaron Woods
9\. Matt McIlwrick
10\. Tim Grant
11\. Sauaso Sue
12\. Josh Aloai
13\. Elijah Taylor

14\. JJ Felisse
15\. Micheal Chee-Kam
16\. Chris Lawrence
17\. Ava Seumanufagai

I like leg speed off the bench MCK,Lawrence, Felisse and Ava can cause havoc off the bench and MCK can replace Idris if he is out of steam. ET can cover hooker if there is an injury however, if Liddle is back I would have him on the bench replacing Lawrence.

I have no idea if Robbie is the type of player who can get Souths back on winning streak but if he is now refreshed mentally and if team respond to his tough and urging attitude he may be a winner for them.

I don't think JT will rush Suli into 1st grade. I expect him to play most of the season in NYC/ISP, and feature in 1st grade when there are injuries.

I also don't think Sue is mobile enough to be an effective defender in the second row. His missed tackle that led to Hampton's try right on halftime is evidence of his poor lateral movement.

I was glad to see Sue start in the second row. If Ava starts it will add much needed muscle to the pack. I'm really excited by Aloiai's form in the pre-season. Could pack some real punch off the bench.

Did not know Sue started on the right until I read this post. Though he went alright as he did when tried there a couple of years ago, I find it strange after playing Aloiai there all of last year that Taylor would change that up.

Would be good to see Suli also get a first up shot and like Josh, be able to hold down the spot all season.

Actually Aloiai appeared to be defending actually in the 13 position while out there
