Not sure how relevant this is but today at the launch the players were handed their jerseys with their number on it.

Went like this

1\. James Tedesco
2\. David Nofoaluma
3\. Jamal Idris
4\. Kevin Naiqama
5\. Jordan Rankin
6\. Mitchell Moses
7\. Luke Brooks
8\. Aaron Woods
9\. Mart Ballin
10\. Tim Grant/Ava Semanufangi
11\. Sauso Sue
12\. Chris Lawrence
13\. Elijah Taylor

14\. Jacob Liddle/Michael Chee Kam

Rest of bench not named

Again not sure how accurate that is but those were the jersey numbers handed out to those specific players

So maybe that is the confirmed side?

Relevant that we are going with Rankin and Naiqama again so JT is willing to live by the sword.

Idont think Brooks will be rushed back and Ballin who knows.

Robbie seems all charged up the clash - with our inside knowledge of his game our boys should be able to contain him.

Dummy and go yourself is his only move.

That is not fair. Inside the oppositions 10, he also has the left foot grubber into a defenders legs.

Haha or over the deadline

Watching farah today play for Souths its amazing how you get to know a player after watching him for so long, I knew when hed kick, I knew when hed go himself…he went OK

We should have him well scouted.

Really don't see what the fuss is about in regards to Chee Kam. I expect him to be a fringe first grader like he was last year.

I missed the start of the game,
Did chee Kam play in the back row with lawernce at five eight as listed?

I don't think kev has lost his Centre spot just yet, however with Rankin he hasn't been used once on the wing in the preseason which leads me to believe that he will be our super sub this year.

Don't be surprised to see our first choice hookers Ballin and Liddle being in reserve grade if not fit, then switch with mcwillrik, Rankin / Littlejohn in the early rounds. Personally I think liddle might get more time in state cup building up his resilience and match fitness. Shoulder injuries are not ideal especially if your in the middle of the front line.

With sue, when that try was scored he was in tighter than Ava, which makes me think he was playing lock at that stage.
He played 2 great games in the backrow back start of 2015 and missed no tackles.
With that try he was covering a gap of about 5 meters as the A defender which is not ideal and being 30 secs out from half time means the whole team was ready to go to the sheds.
A good try for JT to use as an example of staying focused.

In saying that I liked our starting side and definitely think we looked stronger across the park.
Defence was solid also, for the first time since 2014 we were actually staying on our feet and controlling the ruck in defence.
Only taomalolo was a handful but even then he only progress a couple more metres than the rest of the props and didn't make a break from what I can remember.

Side for round 1.

Teddy
Nofoluma
Kev
Idris
Suli
Moses
Littlejohn / Brooks if fit
Woods
McWillrik
Ava
Lawerance
Sue
Taylor

Rankin
Chee Kam
Grant
Aloii

Having Chee Kam allows Sue to move in tighter if required. (I'd probably prefer Chee Kam starting back row latter in the year with Sue providing more impact off the bench)
Also if required Rankin can handle hooker if we need another forward McWillrik is also a very good lock.

Good post, good side.

My only concern is the lack of a goalkicker.

I thought I read somewhere that Suli can kick. Anyone know?

Chee Kam I think will be the replacement for Simona if we are smart , put some punch into our defence out wide

If we use Tedesco smartly , we can create some space for our big centres

After watching both trials ..I would run with

1\. James Tedesco
2\. David Nofoaluma
3\. Jamal Idris
4\. Kevin Naiqama
5\. Moses Suli

6\. Mitchell Moses
7\. Luke Brooks

8\. Aaron Woods
9\. Matt McIlwrick
10\. Tim Grant
11\. Sauaso Sue
12\. Chris Lawrence
13\. Elijah Taylor

14\. Jack Littlejohn
15\. Micheal Chee-Kam
16\. Josh Aloiai
17\. Ava Seumanufagai

I don't think McIlwrick can go 80 … Littlejohn and Chee-Kam pushed their claims tonight...

Suli also deserves a shot...

The only change I would make is even giving MCK a look in in the place of Kev. Bloody Simona…

Littlejohn can fill in if one of the halves is out. not sure if id have him on the bench to cover DH or not. but I guess we don't have much choice with Ballin & Liddle most likely out.
South's will most likely be playing two DH's (RF & Cook) and three forwards. It will be interesting to see which way JT goes.
JLJ has done it before quite well but if a forward could do it like Halatau did last year..we could play 4 forwards off the bench and have JJF there, to try and steamroll Souths through the middle.
ET is capable on playing DH, but it might be too taxing on him as he is already doing a couple of roles (_It would be too hard on ET rotating between a ball playing 13 for the first 30mins then switching to DH for 20, then back to lock for the remaining 30_).
The only other smaller forward capable of passing off the ground would be Lawrence. I'm not sure who RF or Cook would expose most out of DH ( Littlejohn or Lawrence).

Once Liddle's shoulder is 100%. He will most likely start off the bench. So our make up will be a DH player and three forwards. Lawrence and MCK will play in the backs if there is an injury.

Fuss as in he's about a 76x time better defender than Naiqama. Naiqama might be better in attack but for a team that struggles heavily in defense, especially in a crucial position such as that Chee Kam is a must imo

He has never had enough games to prove himself, always in and out of the team

When Moses was playing State Cup a couple of years ago he loved having some big bodies running off him. Chee Kam and Idris in the centres and Lawrence and Sue in the 2nd row would give us some size and hard runners for Moses to work with.

Probably not as dynamic a runner in attack as Kevvy, but certainly surer in defence and a more all round player.

Exactly. I think we'd prefer someone who can actually defend at a high level, especially on the edges and is also ok in attack rather than someone who is pretty good in attack but absolute garbage in D.

Not sure if it was this pre season or last but Chee Kam was also rated as the best defender in the club 1 on 1 im pretty sure

Taylor (JT) reckons Ballin will be good to go and play off the bench for round 1\. I'll amend my side to reflect Geo's with Ballin on the bench for JLJ.

I would like to see one of the young guys on the wing. For me Suli

I think if you put some faith in the right young kid he will put his body on the line time and time again.

These kids are strong and mentally ready to play football (maybe not mentally ready for the trappings of success) but thats what they do all day every day through school, weeknights, weekends, under the watch of trained professionals. they are hungry and have a desire to win. They may have a few bad weeks but in the long run i think they (club and player) will be better for it.

Some time you can break their spirit if you churn them too long in NYC or Reggies and with the not yet old enough lines.

Of course I'm not saying you field a team of youngsters but these are good players who have shown potential and are on the wing. (not saying wing is easy just easier  )

They experience some dirty hit ups, some bombs and defence.

If they cost you a try or two no drama (no guarantee anyone else on our wing roster is going to do better), cause every bit of experience is going to go towards making them a better player. if they consistently fail then you can send them back to reggies or let them go now instead of carrying their ticket on our salary cap like we have done. Your also creating depth in your squad.

Our squad isn't that young anymore and we need to start blooding 1 or 2 of these guys.

Just saying?

If Ballin is fit than he is the final bench spot for me

Tedesco, Nofo, Idris, MCK, Suli, Brooks, Moses, Woods, McIllwrick, Ava, Lawrence, Sue, ET
Ballin, JJ Felise, Tim Grant, Aloiai

I second that team.
It's quite a big side. With four props, Sue in the backrow and the likes of Idris, MCK, Suli in the backs. Maybe not as big as Canberra but a lot bigger than we have been in previous years.
Our props can play long minutes and we have two props on the bench which I like (adds punch down the middle) with only Aloiai as a reserve for our backrow this is were we might show fatigue later in the game.
