LIVE GAME Round 25 v Cowboys

Live Game Discussion
I know we didn’t win but there was a moment there where it finally felt like we have our club back. It’s been over 10 years since we’ve been somewhat competitive and have looked like a decent team. You could see how much it meant to everyone in the crowd and it just sucks we couldn’t hold on.
Yeah there was moment, then reality of where we are and how much work we still have to do. To be fair though if AD doesn’t get injured and we have a quality centre to replace Naden we probably win comfortably.

Not a fan of KPP but happy to be proven wrong.
He is generally quite a solid defender and has a good offload on him, but lacks the explosive speed to make clean line breaks.
I don’t think he will be our problem, but today highlights we are still too timid defending in the middle and struggle to contain classy speed men, particularly on our right edge.

Another disappointing game.

We played really really well for the most part and were the better team over the course.

However, we were asleep for the first 10 minutes and conceded two fairly soft tries. This happens frequently that we just can’t turn on for the first 15 minutes. Gotta be a mindset or warm up thing or something. Regardless, this needs fixing as we don’t want to be down points early and fighting back.

Then there is the Dearden try which should not have been a try as he clearly takes the ball forward into Taylans leg but whatever, then I don’t even know how to explain the back to back kick off tries. The first one was Taylan slipping but then the other two were just shocking and the loss of Latu was really unfortunate.

Honestly, it’s so frustrating at this point to win 60 minutes of so many game and lose the whole thing because of a shocking 20 minutes thrown in there.

We missed a healthy To’a out there. Naden just isn’t up to it in attack and so we didn’t have any right side attack whatsoever. Naden was also hit and miss in defence. Came up with a few crucial plays and tackles but just missed too many in between.

I think there are a lot of positives to take out and we are looking better week on week as a unit but can’t close it out for whatever reason.

Big props to Dearden and Drinkwater though. Dearden was super annoying continually shutting down broken play on our left side and I reckon we score a couple more with an average halfback there instead. Drinkwater made the tackle on Pole and sparked their attack quite well towards the end.

Onto next week. Hopefully Latu is ok 🤞.

not trying to make excuses but why do we never get calls when Tito gets hit high I know he is the shortest player out there but the number of times other teams have gotten away with hitting him high , especially the Cowboys today was questionable
He’s tried to milk too many throughout the season and the refs have all had a little discussion about him.

Definitely not a finals quality team. I’m angry now and maybe I’ll calm down later but if this lot doesn’t win three in a row next year I think I’ll cancel my membership. We all deserve better. That last try we had enough numbers in defence. Just a poor miss and a lack of awareness by the outside guy. Tries in bunches have been killing us for years. At least I think we’ll see Makasini in the final game unless Naden has a blinder in Canberra. Seems little point in playing Toa unless he’s 100% fit.

Our right edge is suspect has been all season. Payten and in particular drink water targeted it beautifully. Cowboys have that roster all season and they are top 6. Don’t forget they are missing Hess, Neame, Tualagi, Luki all four would start in our 17.

Sick of Twal burning 4th ,5th tackle he never makes a break ,Never passes
He stifles attack
Also when Charlie Murray and Tony Sukkar on our go forward and defence suffers
These 2 are not 1st graders
It isn't his fault. I saw the playmakers throw him the ball when they shouldn't have -its on them... Twal is doing the right thing by giving them the option as a runner... Twal was one of our better forwards today in my opinion

Our team will be much better with the inclusion of KPP on the right edge back row. He is a good tackler in space his length cuts outside backs down. Toa is our only right centre.

I know people like them but naden, Seyfarth, bird, hunt, sukkar need to be replaced and we need another starting prop.

Don’t know if we can recruit enough in one offseason to fix the issues but it has to be done. We have cap space.
