Round 3 Discussion *SPOILERS*

The game was already fast enough. This rule is going to make it even faster, and give teams who have momentum an extra leg up. There’s going to be a lot of blow outs. Brisbane didn’t really help themselves, dropping the ball over the line twice. Just made me sick watching that game, and it gave me a sinking feeling watching Parra.

Parra will make finals quite easily and they’ll get flogged by one of the big teams like they always do. They’re flat track bullies plain and simple look how easily Melbourne handled them in finals last year.

Have to agree with them being bullies. Did you hear them carry on when they got the ball stripped at one stage. They successfully stripped the ball a few times and the moment they got stripped, there must have been 5 or 6 player screaming and carrying on at the ref. You will see their true colours if they start to loose and it will be lead by Moses, the biggest sook and psychopath in the game.

I thought Sutton was a bit lenient on getting Parra out of the ruck in that first 20 minutes. There was even one time when he told Matterson he needed to get out faster but didn't give 6 again. Both sides were really testing the offside - but the speed of the game overcame that. I think the days of the super sub may have returned. Having a a fresh, fast number 14 will be essential.

Well typical aint it. The last time the game had this speed was 2005 with a 20 year old Benji Marshall. The game lost its way and became a wrestle-a-thon and on the one game played so far, has taken 15 years to come full circle. Only problem now is Benji is 35 and not a patch on the footwork and speed he had. Just our luck.

As for Parra, they were very, very powerful and that will allow them to play on the front foot in most games. They are the real deal this year and Dylan Brown is going to get better and better as the year goes on. Makes me sick to say it, but i don't see us in the same ballpark to be honest. Anyway, time will tell i guess.

im worried about Tiges, we have gone with a big pack now and I believe you have to be a very mobile pack now with new rules, i hope the Leluia boys got fit during break as i am worried about them with this speed

Twal, Luciano, Garner can all play 80 mins. That gives our other forwards more minutes off the field which will help with fatigue - that’s why Madge picked a more mobile bench too I think. It will help us in attack big time if it keeps up like this

Haas and Hopate played 80 for the Donks..didn't help them...Matterson was the only Parra forward to play 80..

I very much doubt Leilua or even Garner can **effectively** play 80mins with the increased speed of the game...Twal possibly but there will be even more rotation ..I feel under these new rules...An 80min hooker is even more important than ever...both Turpin and Mahoney had spells..

Garner and Twal will handle 80 mins. The reason broncos got flogged had nothing to do with the new rule, it’s because that barely held onto the ball. An 80 minute hooker would be great, more rest for the big fellas.

Neither Garner or Twal have played 80 mins this year..Leilua has but that worked out great against the Knights..

Capable and effective aren't the same thing...

Manly are the team that could excel under the new rules if they can keep Turbo and Jake fit. Not sure if we have the mobility required to keep the defence going. Our attack should hold up, but the defence will be the issue.

Be interesting if the game slows down a tad as the weeks progress. Iam sure there will be the odd coach on the dog and bone to HQ trying to get it slowed down due to their rosters not be suitable to the new style...That’s what happened back in 2005

Go watch the rugby league World Cup and tell me Twal isn’t effective over 80 mins. If they have the option to rest him you would but he can play 80 mins effectively easy just like Payne Haas if need be.

At the back end of last year Garner was playing 70 minutes minimum and often played a full game very effectively. He could definitely handle 80 minutes, but even 70 mins really helps us. He used to be a winger it’s not like he’s lacking fitness

Obviously if you can give your guys breaks you want to but having the option of some of your forwards being able to handle 80 mins will help us big time.

Didn't you say the World Cup was much slower under the one ref system compared to the NRL...

They barely hung onto the ball because they were exhausted, it had everything to do with the new rules.

It was but it’s still pretty good for a prop to play 80 and not even slow down at all. I don’t think Twal will play 80 for us but he’ll play bigger minutes than most props and can handle 80 if need be.

It’s impossible to know that... they didn’t really look ‘exhausted’ until the very end, and they haven’t played in three months. They just looked rubbish, captain went down early as well. I’ll change my stance, the rules certainly didn’t help them when they went behind but even with the old rules broncos would’ve copped a flogging with a performance like that.

I honestly dont think it will take too many weeks before newsfilth/nine start to complain about blowouts in games and they put pressure on the NRL to "adjust" refereeing so the games are closer citing making the game a better spectacle.
Being cynical and suspicious is my normal nature.

Could definately happen as I am a little concerned about how a team turns momentum once it starts going the other way, there is no way to slow the game down to try and regain control.

Change to the old Super League system of the scorer kicking off, to halt the run of possessions. A long held bugbear of mine is dominant teams maintaining the ball, especially so in unbalanced junior competitions and a risky short kick off is the only and poor alternative to halt it.

You can't know that because you don't know what impact the new rules had on their performance, their big forwards were struggling with the pace the whole game. The first Parra try was because they were run off their feet.

Mate that is actually a fantastic idea after what I saw last night. I would actually consider implementing that next week. A lot of people wouldn't like it due to it being a super league rule.

The fact that Junior Paulo played 60 minutes straight shows that players can keep up. The Broncos shot themselves in the food with handling errors early on which were then compounded by a few penalties.
The stats show exactly why the Broncos ran out of puff in the end - 6 penalties to 1. The handling errors were surprisingly even.I think Melbourne will actually struggle.

I enjoyed the new rules and 6 to go - I can't remember seeing any block plays and the adlib, play as you see it football was outstanding and what people have been crying out for. There will continue to be blow outs as long as teams continue to push the refs. They will soon learn as the Broncos did that it won't work. Welcome back Rugby League

Too small a sample size to really know what effect it’ll have. Gotta give it a few weeks but it looked pretty good in the first game back

Yeah mate, I'm not complaining, I actually really enjoyed the game. I haven't enjoyed a non Tigers game for a long long time.
