Anyone heard anything more on the prospect of having Steve Folkes on board next year…
I'm not a R Simmons fan. He needs to go!

Almost certain we will see the back end of Royce after this year… Potter will have his own staff in 2014

Bit like being asked to choose between Tim Moltzen or Greg Inglis

I will take Folkes please

What does Royce actually do, apart from his weekly round up ?
And of course, setting up the witches hats

That's the biggest thing for me in the change over between Sheens and Potter, we've taken off the head, and are stuck with the dead body.
Run the broom through the lot of them. Skandalis, Georgalis and Simmons. Potter and Folkes would be an outstanding combination, tough, fit and disciplined.

Two players from the the old Cantebury "Dogs of War" days

That mentality wouldn't go astray at the Wests Tigers that's for sure

No doubting I'd like folkes back too but what is it people actually object too about having an assistant coach in Royce with 8 years head coaching experience in the NRL, 4 years in super league, 10 yrs nrl assistant coaching experience following a long and respected career as an nrl player and club captain ? Given the assistants at most clubs are blokes with no experience coaching then I'd say both would be great as 2 assistants.

Because our defensive record under him is diabolical. He is horrible.

Look at the difference since we got rid of folkes and took on Simmons.

I believe it's because in all the time Royce has been on board as assistant coach he has been in charge of our defence and the team has leaked points like a sieve!

You can have the best defensive coach in the game and it ain't gonna make one iota of difference if the players don't have the mindset and determination to have a dig in defence, which we don't more often than not.

We as a club have pretty much always been more interested in style over substance, with the exception maybe of our early teams who defended with a bit more starch.

You should look into his record as 'coach' a little further.

Simmons went on to become Panthers coach in the closing stages of the 1994 NSWRL season after Phil Gould was dismissed, and served for seven seasons until he was himself sacked from the position after the 2001 NRL season, when the Panthers won the wooden spoon. The Panthers made the finals twice under Simmons' tenure

Simmons was named to take over the coaching position at St Helens in 2011,[9] and parted company in March 2012\. Simmons was sacked after a five game losing streak.

Then he came here…
