Rugby league history

I was just reading about Steve Mortimer having dementia and being on his last legs in a nursing home .
He's only 68.
Those blokes that played in the 80's have paid far too high a price for their toughness.

Very sad to hear that as i did not know,he was a great halfback and far too often imho would pull something from nowhere to get the dogs a win over the Tigers. He was a great footballer.

What year was that? 1981?
Champion @Suzie-Q - Here's the goss:

28 March 1982, NRL round 5, and the Newtown Jets played Canterbury Bulldogs at Henson Park, after 80 minutes the final score was
👟
🏉

NEWTOWN 0
CANTERBURY 0

Newtown went on to finish the year 7th and Canterbury 9th (out of 14 teams).
(A few years later, both teams went on to play a 1 all draw as well.)

Today is an infamous day in Rugby League history - it marks the 30th anniversary of the start of the Super League War.

And it changed my (and my family's) football life forever!
And pretty much everyone else too.
