Not sure halfway house is the best description from Kenty.

This is before my time, but I had no idea Gavin Miller started at the Magpies let alone played in 1977!

Wikipedia tells me he was only 17. Amazing stuff.

Very way back in the day, I worked and lived at the Courthouse Hotel in Australia Street Newtown. I was going through the Memory Bank files the other day and found these pics of an event we put on in the beer garden. A strongman arm-wrestling contest. The bloke in the yellow "Get Loose With the MOOSE" T-Shirt was none other than Constable Pat Jarvis, who was a part-time Rugby League Player. He'd occasionally play for the Newtown coppers at Henson Park when he wasn't being a Crime Fighter.

Back in the days when footballers had to have a another job to survive being a copper was quite often a option that many took,these day's being a full time player is the norm so virtually nobody has another job of any description.
Don McKinnon is another that spring's to mind.
