Rugby league is it in good hands

The heading of this topic is a joke in itself.

No! No! No!

The people running the show have no idea - Smith and Grant for starters.
Then at club level we have - WT that is - have women on the board, Canterbury have Castle, add to them all the other dopes who have no idea. I say this because the majority have not played the game. Playing netball, basketball, swimming, athletics etc. is no experience of any use.
At a high level at the moment it is all about Money, equality of the sexes, and making sure "Little Johnny" doesn't get a hang nail.

I am sure I will get hung out to dry for above comments but like it or not - that's the way it is.

The game is getting progressively worse because of selling it to TV. Ok we need money to run the game; a bit less and keeping control would have been much better. TV is determining when we play and what days - now it is four quarters on the table so they can make more money from advertising. Further down the track it will be the changes in the rules that THEY will want etc. etc.

Do we want our game back or some BASTARD child that everyone else has produced for us.
I know what I want. A fast open game of football, with good clean defence; no wrestling, 40 minutes a half, reduced reserves bench, one referee that is honest, a 10 metre rule that is adhered to for both sides, play the ball markers who are not interfered with, no golden point in club games and limited scrums fed by the half. Think we had something like that before.

If the "Greatest Game of All" goes out the back door after it has been run by it's own people and as it was intended, then I say let it die.

It is better than watching TV and incompetents slowly strangle something you love.

What a horrible way to treat an old friend.

The game has evolved to where it is today, each time problems or what are viewed as improvements to the game come up, those in power make the changes. As a result clubs recruit player types to fit the game being played at the time. There are committees that make changes to the game but as i understand it these committees are made up of club reps and coaches so they will perpetuate what exists or best suits their clubs. The people above them, from my observation, are people with business or other expertise background not necessarily rugby league so without the personal experience of the game they probably haven't got much of a clue about rule changes and the like that coaches and clubs push. The games leaders CEO etc are more interested in results so while TV stations are willing to fund the game and TV rating are good and memberships and sponsorships rise then the indicators show the game going forward. The thing I miss the most is the unpredictability in the game see to be all but gone which is something missed from bygone years.

are memberships up across the board in 2014, are crowds for the home and away games up 2014 . what I would like to know how is the junior league going in the Sydney area may be willow could tell us . when i started this post i thought i was maybe 1 out but there seems to be a lot of fans not happy with the commission or lack of it

I haven't checked any stats, not that they are necessarily reliable, but last time I heard Dave Smith interviewed, everything was on the up and up so from a business point of view he was of the view that the game is in good shape.

I thought that Gallop went okay, but was somewhat hamstrung by his NEWS connection, and has done wonders since taking the reins of soccer.

The game is in serious trouble at grass roots level, particularly the country areas. If not for the Polynesian influx, the situation would be critical.
