Rumoured Tiger signing news RLW

I reckon all these older players on short term contracts are to usher in the next generation, players like Fotoakia, Vela, Lovett and Santi in the forwards along with Siro, Tedessco, Marita, Nofaluma in the backs, all of which seem to be future first graders in my mind.

are u serious utai was one of our best this year he may be short and older but deserves another contract

Utai has been great this year, but I'd be looking to bring through the next generation. Koroibete, Nofoaluma and Grant. What we gain from Utais hitups we lose through his inability to defend bombs, kicks and in general play. We all saw what a bit of speed did out wide when Marika hit the scene. Thanks for coming Matt but I think we need to take a new direction.

I like the Kite signing also Bell…Utai a definite injury fill in. The problem I have with Utai he will take up someone else's place in the top grade .Nothings going to change if new blood isn't brought in ...hopefully John grant sticks around .Moors not impressed had opportunities though the season if stays if goes no great excitement ,the one thing that is evident the team is going to be around the same for next year with no real changes a long year one thinks.

Utai does try but he has none of the credentials of a modern winger. He cant run defuse bombs when he has to jump or catch bombs and is out of position constantly.Yes he does run the ball up hard but i dont believe that should be enough for an extension we have better coming through.

Lets be honest if we didnt resign him no other club would
 
Utai will only take up someone else's place if he is playing better then them - which is what he has done the last 2 years. With a starting backline with an average age of under 23 next year we need some experienced back ups. We lacked a prop when Galloway was hurt this year and we cant bank on Woods and Galloway playing ever game next year thats why we need Kite and to give Bell another year while Groat and Foutika continue to develop.

Signing Kite, keeping Utai and Bell would give us great depth for next year in thier positions as young players develop (and will keep the pressure on them) as well providing better coverage for injury.

However thier is only so much you can do to cover injury - If Benji or Robbie miss games we will struggle. Same as the other teams who this year were luckier in the injury stakes. I did look through last weeks Big League and every single other team had 8-12 players who played more then 20 games while we only had 6 (Bulldogs had 12) so clearly injuries were a big factor and especially injuries to Robbie. Imagine the Dogs without Barba, Storm without Cameron Smith or Billy Slater
 
I'm not sure about retaining Utai either. I know he has played out of his skin this season, but as you all say he is not the best under the high ball, so perhaps we should have let him go in favour of some of the "young guys", as they need to be given a go. Whether we sign Kite or not, look what happened when we signed another marquee player by the name of Blair. Maybe these guys come to the Tigers to have a "rest" !!!

That's the reason behind the 1 year extension. He's staying to start next year keeping in mind young players will come through the ranks, purely using Utai as a utility.

It's hard to argue against Bell and Utai who have largely played well this season. Kite would basically fill the role Cashmere did although hopefully a little better. Moors although underrated here is replaceable so i have no issue in him going. No mention of Tuqiri which is a shame. I've always thought we'd keep one of Utai or Tuqiri…so go figure.
 
Moors could be a big loss. He was becoming somewhat rampant in the last few games. I dont understand this. Kite bends the line almost everytime, he is a workhorse, he is a real prop. Will believe the signing when its official.

Your post makes so much sense in so many ways, Softlaw, especially the loyal to a life of no consequences bit :laughing:

Everyone wants him to go, even the ones who have previously supported him. So please Tim, your being loyal is only frustrating the major part of WT supporter base - there is nothing good in that. Move on to a new challenge for the sake of the club, the supporters' sanity and your own reputation.

I just dont get it, with the same squad basically as last year minus Ellis with the addition of Anasta,maybe Kite,Pettybourne, how in gods name are we going to beat the likes of Manly,Dogs,Souths and so on. Theirs no xfactor,we have not beefed up into this imposing mean machine,we have not signed up a top line no7 and we still have the same old coach. Are we going to have this amazing offseason where players gain a yard of pace and 10kg,I doubt it.

Compared to ALL other sides I think we are about the only team that seems to have remained at the same level or even dropped a little when your talking playing rosters for 2013
 
kite is old and getting soft.much like me. keep moors and hope for the best. utai has been with so many different fullbacks,centres 5/8s in the last two years all he has to do is turn up fit and he is guaranteed a game. and that is the truth.we would not be having this debate if hampstead bothered to get acquainted with his job description.
 
I think matt Utai has been an outstanding acquisition for the club given he would probably be on limited cash. I think his go forward has been invaluable. The thing I am questioning is Matt really that good or is everyone else that bad? If we had a dominant forward pack, would we be noticing Utai?

Totally agree. Utai has been terrific at getting us on the front foot from dummy half on kick return follow ups. Reminded me at times this year of the two Warriors wingers in the NZers run to last years GF. Sure the guy has weakness' but most wingers these days do … even Uate, the so called winger of the year has glaring defensive flaws.

I think Matty Utai is one of the few success stories of our season and I'm pleased his efforts have been rewarded.
 
I will be absolutely spewing if Moors is not retained. The guy was finally given a go toward the end of this year and he did not disappoint. That would be so typical if Bellyache has picked him up and be a sad reflection on the Tigers recruitment. What we should expect I suppose.
