Whilst I don't like him as a human, we need scumbags in our team the opposition fear….and he ticks both boxes

Spot on.

Keep in mind we are recruiting him to play prop, not run a childcare centre.

Good people do bad things. People who are bad are able to change and live a good life. Packer is showing that. His done his time.

Still, not sure he is a 700k player, even with the inflation of the cap next year.

He hasn't been offered 700k…

He's moved on from his past and probably learnt a lot about himself and become a better human for it. Would be a great pick up but we still need more tired and tested meter eaters in the pack which I can't see is getting

If drug dealing Danny wicks is allowed back then it's open slather.
Alcohol related violence happens everyday. People make bad choices on the drink and regret their actions. He did hard time where others have walk for committing worse offences.
He was scapegoat when this "coward punch" buzz word was trendy.

A scapegoat? What the hell are you talking about? When has it ever been acceptable to stomp on a bloke's head for no reason? It's a complete dog act that stands a good chance of killing or seriously injuring someone and he absolutely deserved to be slotted for it. People were being sent to prison for that kind of offending long before "coward punch" became and phrase and they will continue to be unless and until society collapses…

So it's perfectly OK for an ex politician in Mark Latham to be running again in politics after having broken an innocent Taxi Driver's arm? Latham is a thug from The Valley. Maybe we should sign him to run the chook raffle to raise money from the gangster class. …sorry, that was gangster abuse!!!

Hes an intimidating figure.
Scarier and tougher than Woods.

He'll line Woodsy up for sure next year..
Will be great.

I love the irony that Labor put Latham up for PM AFTER he did the above.

On Packer, I forgive him.

This is a key signing imo. Love the way he often takes two hit ups in a set.

Woods should have bashed someone up on the street. He'd be a crowd pin up boy around here
Now , instead of public enemy no :unamused: 1

He did the crime and served his time, I believe people deserve a second chance if they pay for their actions.

He appears to be moving in the right direction and that's all you can ask.

Absolutely agree. If they blow the second chance, well that is a different matter

I have no problems with him either…everyone needs a second chance and he's done his time...and we certainly need his mongrel

You dont have to agree but the timing of his assault did him no favours. Had it not been in the height of the coward punch campaign and magistrates were sent to come down hard. He wouldn't have seen inside a jail cell on first offence.

The media hysteria demanded tougher sentencing. Packer got it.

You don't have to agree either but take it from someone who has dealt with similar cases for more than 10 years and followed sentencing patterns - he was always going in for that. An unprovoked attack involving multiple blows and stomping to the head of a defenceless victim resulting in a loss of consciousness and multiple facial fractures. First offence or not that is top end assault occasioning actual bodily harm and he couldn't have avoided imprisonment short of being an intellectually impaired, mentally ill, indigenous offender with a disadvantaged upbringing who had been acting under duress while assisting police as an informer at high risk in an anti-terrorism investigation…

Oh, BS. Any judge would have sent him to prison for what is an aggravated serious assault. As for coward's punch, they get what they deserve by being sent to prison but Packer's crime was much more serious.
My view on Packer is that prison is for rehabilitation as much as punishment and if he has truly been rehabilitated, then he should be allowed to move on with his life by playing professional football.
