You dont have to agree but the timing of his assault did him no favours. Had it not been in the height of the coward punch campaign and magistrates were sent to come down hard. He wouldn't have seen inside a jail cell on first offence.
The media hysteria demanded tougher sentencing. Packer got it.
Oh, BS. Any judge would have sent him to prison for what is an aggravated serious assault. As for coward's punch, they get what they deserve by being sent to prison but Packer's crime was much more serious.
My view on Packer is that prison is for rehabilitation as much as punishment and if he has truly been rehabilitated, then he should be allowed to move on with his life by playing professional football.

There are a lot of vermin running around in the NRL, at least Packer has done his time in the clink whereas other players both past and present got barely a slap on the wrist. If he is gonna crush heads on the field it may as well be with WT I say.
