Ryan Charged

Sheens must be strongly considering contesting this one.

You have to fight this one. With the right QC and about 2 hours of video of other more dangerous tackles that go unpunished every week, surely you think Ryan would get off.

I forgot he plays for us may as well take the 3 :unamused:

How one of our players is facing more time on the sideline than those manly thugs shows what a joke the nRL Judicary has become.

Just watched it again and it was nothing absolutely nothing. If he loses games for this the Judicary are a joke.

Well unfortunately he has already lost 3 weeks and 4 if he loses a challenge - considering he is out for 3 any way he may as well challenge and hope the panel see this as a big a joke as we do.

Problem is, the judiciary sees things very differently to how most of us see it - remember Gibbs and his knee-bump to Burt's bum? 3 Weeks (I don't think that would have even hurt ME!) … I think Ryan should fight this, but I'm not expecting anything good out of it ...

Agree Suzie - i personally don't think it was a crusher tackle but i do think the judiciary will make an example of Beau to show they mean business on anything that looks like a so called crusher - however considering that its only an extra week penalty if he loses i believe he should fight it. Also on Fox there was only 1 camera angle shown so i have no idea what it looked like other than on tv.

Any word on our choice to defend or not?

The deadline was 12:00pm today

There is a article on the SMH Website saying that Ryan will contest the charge and hopefully have the charge graded down to one match.

Wests Tiger Beau Ryan will contest the grading of his dangerous contact charge at the NRL judiciary on tonight.
>
Ryan was found guilty of the grade three dangerous contact unnecessary head/neck pressure charge relating to an incident in the Tigers' 26-22 win over Manly on Monday night.
>
The winger is facing a four-match ban if his challenge is unsuccessful but could have that reduced to just one game if the charge is downgraded.
>
Sea Eagles forward George Rose will miss this weekend's match against Parramatta after taking the early guilty plea for his careless high tackle from the same fiery match.
>
The only other player to be sidelined for disciplinary reasons this weekend will be Canterbury's Michael Ennis, who is out for one match after taking an early guilty plea on a careless high tackle.
>
Manly pair Brent Kite and Kieran Foran as well as Gold Coast's Bodene Thompson and Warrior James Maloney have all escaped suspension on their charges after taking early guilty pleas.
>
Ryan's challenge will be heard at NRL headquarters in Sydney from 6pm tonight.

The tackle for us to analise
Note: Wait for it to load…

Yeah, the replay doesn't look so good for him from that angle. Hopefully there is another view that will help his case out more.

Its a reverse spear.

He intentionally speared his arse into the ground by using his upper body.

What a farce.

PS….after the tackle Beau was complaining about his kneck getting attacked.Wonder if that will come up in his defense??

It looks bad because it _is_ bad.

He could have pulled him backward, but instead used his upper body and gravity to crush the player into the ground.
I wonder if there would be debate if Roberstson had have suffered a spinal injury.

And Manly's aggro and highshots are besides the point imo. Highshots (And yes, their forwards were grubs at times, and I hope are panalised accordingly) do not put players in a position where they coulds have a career threatening spinal injury. This is the reasoning of the judiciary I believe. Highshot are not on, but a fractured vertebrae is always going to be worse then a concussion or a bloody nose.

yeah, your right. its not uncommon - players are thrown onto the ground every weekend.
The risk of injury, however, increases when a player is using their weight _on top_ of gravity to crush the player. Spinal chords are fairly brittle things when it's pressure vs leverage. If they let those kind of tackles go, it would only be a matter of time before a serious spinal injury occured.

Even if it is dangerous, they've used the wrong charge imo. There was no unnecessary pressure to the head or neck. He had hold around the shoulders and threw him to the ground. Where's the pressure upon the head or neck?

Thats how i saw it.

Crushers are when blokes on the ground get their heads squished into their chests so they cant get up quick to play the ball.

Obviously you dont want harm to the players, but it is footy, and when you get a chance to hurt somoene you do it.

I fail to see what he is being charged with.

Slamming a bloke arse first into the ground isnt illegal unless you have them around the head, and i didnt see that either.

great post; i completely agree.

if this had happened to a tiger i would have been pretty upset because there is a definite risk of serious damage.
whatever guise it is charged under it needs to be removed.

I guess we'll see what the verdict is - I think tackling styles that increase any risk of chronic or permanent back or neck injury need to be looked at though. Regardless of the technicality of the charge itself.

I blame the visit from WWE Superstar "The Mizz"

Maybe we should bring Criss Angel to Camp Concord. He could make Gibbs' penalties disappear.

Just joking Brycey :sunglasses:
