Sacked Tim Sheens ponders taking Tigers to court for $1m

Got to admit, whilst not surprised for one moment. I'm pretty dissapointed at Sheens for the alleged legal action in regards to his payout. As many have already suggested. For a guy who seemed pretty happy to treat a contract like toilet paper when it came to players. It's kind of hard to take now that the shoes on the other foot and he's not happy.

I'm not surprised by this and the truth is he is entitled to do so, but it's hardly paints him in a good light really. I did have sympathy for him previously but not now. Basically he screwed with players contracts like it was okay but when it happened to him he didn't approve? Sorry tim, go jump!

The whole thing is ridiculous. Of course Sheens wants his money. Last year the club re-signed him to a 3 year deal. If not for that Sheens would be at Penrith secure for another couple of years. Instead, the club has thrown him on the scrap heap and he is now clubless and jobless. Nobody here has any idea what financial committments he may have, which could have been based around his contract. The club should have expected nothing less than Sheens wanting a full payout. Anything else was always going to be a bonus.

The club has almost effectively retired Sheens. At his age, it's going to be quite difficult to pick up another substantial contract if he is out of the game for a couple of years.

It is his own fault he is out of work,he mucked around with the halves all season,9 halves and only 1 injury,he had Benji out of position most of the year,he had Farah at 7,Fulton,Ayshford and Lawrence at 6 all the while moving 3 or 4 players to cover 1 injury,he hasn't bought or developed a halfback, what does he expect.
He has had a free ride on accountability from the club, the fans and media for way too long,he is now accountable and he doesn't like it,too freakin bad Tim,welcome to the world every other coach is in,I for one will be glad to see the back of you, after watching you try the same crap with the national team on saturday I am so glad you are out of here.

Lol, what was different this year than any other? Sheens has ALWAYS played players out of position and moved blokes around. I, like everyone else including you obviously, could never understand it or agree with it.
That's not the issue. The issue is DESPITE those flaws in his coaching some twit or twits made the decision to sign him for 3 years and whilst i haven't seen the contract, i'm pretty sure it wouldn't contain anything to say that it would be a breach of contract if he played players in different positions. So going off that, the only party in breach is WT for not honouring said contract. Sheens has every right to go for the full payout.
For the record, i agree with you, i'm glad he is gone as coach. It's worth noting, he would have been gone natuarally due to contract expiring, and we would be 900k better off had the previously mentioned twits had a bit of foresight.

Good luck to you Tim … The club has treated you shabbily ... Squeeze every last dollar out of the bludgers and if I were you I'd be raiding the stationary cupboard on the way out ... those orange staplers are wonderful stocking fillers for the kiddies.

The board ummmmed and arrggghhhed before sacking him ... They were clearly not sure how they were going to afford it. They couldn't find a suitable answer to this conundrum and decided to sack him anyway ...

WT board = Rank Average

It would have been more average to allow Sheens to stay as head coach given the way things ended up. Saying "oh well can't get rid of him, lets just hope for the best" would have been much worse.

It was a gamble to demote him, hoping he would either quit outright or take another job elsewhere, but it still needed to be done.

Would you have kept Sheens on as head coach in this situation?

Yup!
The position only became untenable once Heighington and Ryan went south and the players took over the asylum.
Sheens was getting on with the job … Whilst everyone else stood around picking their noses.
Humphreys with his top draw of unsigned contracts, the players with their sub standard season deciding who should stay and go, the board scratching at their collective dandruff working out how to keep Benji and Robbie happy without sending the joint broke ...
So yeah, LaT ... I'd have stuck solid.
The board and the CEO needed to make a stand against the poor little rich kids, supported the coach who had two thirds of a size-able contract to run and put players on notice.
As it is now ... The new coach will have to run every decision past Benj and Robbie to make sure it doesn't put anybodies nose out of joint before implementing anything. The admin office has shown great weakness and the mouth guard chewers have tasted blood ... The culture could head anywhere from here

How do they get away with continually writing this speculative crap?

Well….when there are dozens of questions marks surrounding the club, its coach and player, its sponsors etc etc....and there is nothing from the club to alleviate this.....they just print what they like.

Humpty shouldve freeking learnt this by now....he is hopeless, he umms and aahs and says were in no rush.....and some people called him the best thing to happen to this club....always knew he was a dud

get a loan if necessary.

A loan against what?

Future earnings?

Wouldnt you be needing to produce a profit of some sort?
That doesnt occur often in this game
=========================================================

Love him or hate him, he turned the joint around, made us respectable and competitive, won us a premiership….its a sad sad period in our history for him and the club to part the way they will....this will get messy.
History will forever reflect this.
Thats why I said a few weeks ago we still have so far to go.....we are not respected, Humpty is treated with suspicion and contempt...its going to take a long time for my passion for this joint to return

The only place I've ever heard this said, is on this forum and by Buzz Rothfield.

Seems people are just extrapolating their own reality out of the dribs and drabs we get from the media/twitter.

Nah, I think the stuff that hit the fan after Heighington and Ryan were let go said it all. The playing group weren't happy with the coach for pushing out two of their pals and the situation quickly escalated … As we know ... Players got their way.

Dunno - I'm not an economist. The USA never seems to make a profit but they seem to be able to raise loans. Clubs don't make profits on their own but with an NRL grant they probably balance the books most years.

I doubt a bank would loan me a cool $1m for breaching a contract…..they like you to be sort of above board, legit ...no dodgy shiftys need apply

It was never going to be a happy ending, these things always end up in a mess, the trick is to clean them up asap what ever its costs and move on.

It was the right call to sack him, so lets hope its all cleaned up quick smart and lets get "Harry Potter" or Kevie Waters here to get a new era started

Yes me too, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Well, now I can see why several of our players are petulant, spoiled brats, such is the culture that was created.

Maybe the best way of handling whole situation was the players come out in the press and say that they didn't want him and force his hand

For example the playing group could of said they would stand down and refuse to play under Sheens and involve RLPA

Might of been worth a try

Sheens will quite happily bake scones for 450 k a season

Dunno about that, definitley the WRONG call to extend his last deal

It was the wrong call to extend the one before that also. Of course we had relatively good years in 2010 & 2011, but based on his track record the four years previous he was lucky to hang on that long.

Sheens has been bluffing the management from day 1 ..contract extensions ect. If the statement was made that he would stand down from his contract if the club didn't make the finals and the right people were in attendance well see you in court . I think he deserves a payout but these threats about dragging the club into court go right ahead pal!!!
