He was Watto. Bizarre decision by the club.

Bizarre is putting it politely.

He was selected in the Junior Kangaroo Team this year. It is a really disturbing case because you have Bennett who obviously rates him and Taylor who doesn't. As supporters, what are we to think?

Lol Funaki he doesn't rate, but Lovett is a walk up starter…

My point exactly - our development staff haven't got a clue.

Funaki will run rings around Lovett. Lovett consistently gets smashed every game. Try as he might every time he runs opposition players know that he is an easy target, but hey lets start him every week because apparently we don't have better. Ffs, can we get a decent coach who knows what the hell he is doing. We wont have any players that will want to play for us at this rate.

Funaki and Akauola have not done anything as yet. They maybe duds in the NRL.

We can't keep everybody - nobody on here really knows how bad the financial situation is. Maybe the more we can save the more chance we would have of buying a half decent centre (Ware springs to mind) sometime in the not too distant future.

We certainly need one - maybe two.

Both players would be on close to minimum contract. Why are we releasing players with potential?

Because apparently the coaches don't think they have enough potential.

Sam Moa was released because the club thought he did no have enough potential

Andrew Fafita was released because the club thought he did not have enough potential.

Recently Nathan Brown was released because the club thought he did not have enough potential.

After all this the club will turn around and use a lack of talent as an excuse for not being able to remain competitive.

Again.

Just enough professionalism to keep us interested.

funaki, has signed a 2 year deal with the broncos from next year. i had a drink today with a club employee and he said JT did not rate funaki and he was told he was free to go also akauola has also been told to look else were. bennett has told funaki he will be in there top 25 next year, watch this kid go next year.

OK - have tried to remain positive about whats happening with selections, and while I am not as familiar with Funaki if ever there was a kid that deserved another crack at first grade based on performance and potential surely Akaoula showed enough last season. Frustrated beyond belief. Has to be more to it than judging on ability alone.

I suppose we'll get the same ole storey we had to move him on due to the cap

Lovett just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. He shows no aggression, hardly budges the line, why is he in the team ??? Maybe i'm missing something. 😱pen_mouth:

i dont mind Lovett. He is a solid defender (when he isn't left stranded out in the centres). He kind of fills that Fulton void. Someone who doesn't offer much with the ball but is a worker in defence.

Building a forward pack is about balance and the impact Funaki brings to a team can be complemented by a worker such as Lovett. That is the theory anyway which is identifying and best utilising the strength and weaknesses of the players you have.

He gets smashed every time he runs the ball. Have you seen when he gets it, theres at least 3/4 players lining him up. He's a plodder in every sense of the word.

Ironically, Lovett has plenty of aggression. He is a tough kid who can handle himself and doesnt need to take a backward step.

Maybe this is exactly why he is keeping his position?

He has controlled his aggression.
He is making his tackles [except when playing centre  ].
He is doing his hit-ups.
He is doing his talking in defence.
He is playing mistake free football.

These all add up and are possibly a big part of why JT prefers him?
