Save Our Sides Protest Rally - SUN 05FEB11

If you don't think the issues of being a 50:50 joint venture are not one and the same, you miss the whole point of the Rally.

We want a fair go.

Why is that so hard to understand?

its like talking to a brick wall :brick:

It is not that you are talking to a brick wall, it is that many disagree with your premise completely.

Firstly many think it is a 50-50 JV

Many disagree with the fact the a NSW cup team is necessary for pathway for kids from the district (or any district for that matter)

You have my full support on fixing any problems at junior level,

I agree that WT should show more of a presence in the Macarthur region in assisting junior development.

Ideally more than 4 games at campbelltown would be great, financially it is necessary to play games at SFS, despite what you have indicated these are not games for the Balmain side of the JV, they are games for commercial gain.

I dont agree that WT (or anyone else for that matter) should have to subsidise adult participation football. like it or not, a second NSW cup team is just that. I would much rather see that funding spent on elite junior development and junior participation football.

If there is not a close relationship between WT and West junior rep squads this is not acceptable. Those sides should receive lots of " love", financial or otherwise, including sending players and coaching staff to training and alike.

There are areas where every club can do better, but I believe that this rally is far more about Wests vs Balmain than anything else, this disapoints me greatly.

In any compromise people are more than aware of everything they are giving up, and less so about what the other party is giving up, it is human nature.

Do you ever acknowledge the disapearence of the "balmain" name, the addition of white to the jersays instead of their traditional black and gold, (2 years ago our jersay was predominately black with a splash of orange and white, it is my favourite jersay), the constant reference to us being the fibros.
The Balmainf team having to take West Tigers players costs another bloke a game, or conversely an injury on game day at NRL and you can lose a player last minute.

If you look for things against you, you will find them, none of the above concern me, I was just trying to illustrate that in any compromise that makes a joint venture you will have to give up some stuff, but so will the other lot.

Mate where do local kids go who play for the Wests Magpies in SG Ball when they turn 19 if they don't get a Wests Tigers contract…..........
\

\
Tell me how our argument is not about the juniors.
\
\
our argument is also about the state of the game in the South West.

the junior league...
the train and play rule...
the lack of games at Campbelltown
\
\
Did I not state all that in the first post?

A page ago you were talking about the size of the magpie on the WT sleeve and the colour of the jumpers.

As an explanantion why Wests fans feel alienated from the Joint Venture.
\
\
mate if the Magpie on the sleeve was left alone…
the wests tigers at least stated a solid timeline of when we will get 6 games a year back at Campbelltown
Magpies weren't forced to play for balmain whilst the negotiations were going on
and we were offered to play as the Magpies in the Bundy Cup out of Campbelltown
we most likely wouldn't be talking about most of these issues now

Who's stopping you running your own Bundy Cup team?

Wests play Ryde-Eastwood-Balmain in the final round of the State Cup this season at Leichhardt.

Could be an interesting finale for the Magpies.

CAMPBELLTOWN brothers Jordan and Taran Etto are quietly notching a series of Aussie rules firsts in the traditionally rugby league stronghold of south-western Sydney.

Forging the way is older brother Taran, 16, a student at John Therry Catholic High School.

The teenager claimed a spot in the Greater Western Sydney Giants under-18s squad after a successful trial game with the team against the Gold Coast.

Taran also matched it with his state peers with selection in the 2011 NSW under-16 team.

His younger sibling, however, is hot on his heels.

Like his older brother, Jordan, 15, was named in the 2011 All Australian Indigenous AFL team, which competed in a tournament in Fiji.

His inclusion came after he made the NSW under-15 Combined Catholic Colleges AFL team and the NSW Indigenous AFL side, which competed on the Gold Coast in the Australian championships.

John Therry Catholic High School sports teacher Jamie Cook congratulated the brothers on their achievements.

“Taran has set a pretty high precedent for Jordan to follow, but Jordan is doing a good job following in his brother’s large footsteps,” he said.

Good for them.

It is important that all kids find a sporting niche if they can.

Looking at one of the brothers he was not going to compete at a senior league level in RL so it is good he is finding other avenues in which to excel.

If you were to draw a long bow and lay this at the feet of RL in the Macarthur the obvious improvement avenue is from the games admin as far as matching the quality and efficiency of the Auskick program

And? Some kids, as hard as it is to believe, just prefer AFL over league. Plenty of AFL players started in Sydney junior clubs. Doesn't even say that they ever played league.

Wouldn't matter if we assigned one person to every kid between 7 and 17 in the Macarthur area. There will always be kids who prefer yawnion, soccer, AFL etc. Different kids like different things. There are junior rugby league teams in Melbourne. 11 teams in the U/16s apparently.

I do agree league can do better but Auskick is overhyped and primarily designed to increase "participation" numbers (i.e. everyone who comes within 10m of a Sherrin at their primary school has participated… Hopefully this is something the IC can assit with.

Oh the Auskick numbers are definatley overstated.

Its a pity the games masters didn't embrace Austag and do the same thing when they had the chance

I reckon it is great kids have other sports as options. The more the better if you ask me, I think it is awesome these kids have the opportunity to play sport in Fiji, much rather that than sitting on the couch or causing trouble somewhere

Everyone seemed to play sport in Fiji and league is going through the roof. The AFL are kidding if they think they're going to get much of a toehold in the Pacific. Those boys are made for league and now the FRL are putting in a scheme to find Australian clubs for some of these guys, we'll see more and more coming through. Sorry off topic but jeez Fiji and the other Pacific islands are exciting places for the game.

Agree. But then they claim people like Nic Natanui (the West Coast guy whose name I am too lazy/busy to look up right now!) who weren't even born in Fiji (despite how the AFL presents it, he was born in Sydney) so you learn to take the AFL's claims with a massive grain of salt.

But yes I thoroughly agree with you that kids playing any sport is awesome and if we can have as many as possible play our great game, the better.

Can only assume that for further streamlining of football operations and cost efficiency, there will be a joint end of season trip. The two teams will have a boat race?

I will only accept the demise of the Wests NSW Cup team if Wests Ashfield is genuine in ensuring the Magpie presence in Macarthur/Liverpool/Group 6\. Having juniors graduating to Wests Tigers is a must for the new NRL Independent Commission. The more Magpies playing for Wests Tigers will ensure the Magpie tradition continues. Come on Magpies lets encourage those young kids out west to make the grade. Don't get baited by Balmain diehards who know they need these juniors … it's the future of WESTS Tigers.

THREE young players from the Balmain Dockers Australian football club went west to join an elite training squad at the East Fremantle Colts Academy.
>
Under the partner club arrangement between AFL club Fremantle and Balmain Dockers, Brad Plug, Luke Duignan and Marshall Lee were selected to develop their playing careers.
>
Dockers spokesman David Yole said all three were outstanding players.
>
Plug won this season’s Hart Medal in the Sydney under 18 Challenge Cup competition in his first season at Balmain.
>
“He played his first senior game with the Dockers Premier League team then several games in Balmain Dockers reserves, holding his place as a member of their finals team,” Mr Yole said.
>
Plug said he enjoyed the experience at Fremantle and looked forward to being fitter for next season.
>
Luke Duignan excelled in junior competition this season.
>
“The opportunity with the partner club is fantastic and I am very appreciative of the experience at this elite level.”
>
Duignan will join Balmain in pre-season training under new coach Craig White, recruited from South Fremantle.
>
Marshall Lee is a former Balmain Dockers under-18’s player now in Victoria.
>
“East Fremantle’s conditioning coaches and combined fitness programs with senior players is an awesome experience,” he said.

Brad Plug goes to RL stronghold Holy Cross Ryde, used to play league, he was a great player…my son played with his younger brother @ Nth Ryde.

That would be a totally correct assumption GNR What a game that will be

Especially seeing we will be there as well in top grade

We will be enemies for one game and brothers for life in the other Passion that is the name of the game Passion for our great club and Passion for our history
