Save Our Sides Protest Rally - SUN 05FEB11

I kind of liken the WSDRLFC to someone in the last stages of cancer, dying and in severe pain. You have to ask yourself, do you keep them alive to endure more pain, or do you just do the human thing and let them go to die a peaceful death and free them of the pain?

It is a trial game where they prob intend on using fringe players in both games, Sheens and the rest of the coaching staff will want to look at all the contracted players it would be so counterproductive to have a team full of players that will not be playing in the NRL or competing for spots play in the trial.

In all seriousness how many people will be going to watch the NSW cup game 3 hours before the NRL kick off for a trial, there will prob be less than 5000 people at the game total, there will prob be a few 100 people at most that are there to watch NSW cup that have no alignment to the club.

The more I think about Galah's comment in relation to this lead up game the more it angers me, there is an extra game being played in the region and instead of viewing this as a positive, he is complaining cause he wants a team that is full of players outside of the set up to play. This is becoming more and more close minded thinking.

For someone who "Claimed" to want to work with WT's and claims also NOT to be anti WT's…
and to be so concerned about their future potential roster
Why would you then make statements referring to them as the Concord Tigers?
It's a bit insulting aint it mate....

And doesn't this say it all

Saturday, February 18, Campbelltown Sports Stadium
3.30pm: NSW State Cup: Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers v Newtown Jets
5.15pm: NYC: Wests Tigers v Sydney Roosters
7.30pm: NRL: Wests Tigers v Sydney Roosters

A Balmain squad (full of Magpies) playing before Wests Tigers at Campbelltown.

how did our joint venture end up so broken

One point that really stuck out to me was your demand to relocate the NYC team to campbelltown. Where is the logic in that? Its a selfish immature demand that will if anything hinder the development of the squad as they are no longer with the first grade squad just so 4 or 5 boys don't have to travel to concord.

That one got me as well. I would want to have the NYC kids as close as possible to the full time squad, the mroe they have to do with each other the better.

Last year there was quite a few Goose… (Granted it was Parrra)
But Hayne and Benji played (Limited minutes) But everyone was on deck!!
The Magpies haven't even organised trials yet, Bit hard to put them on a roster.
Weren't they only holding tryouts only last month...
Hold TRYOUTS 2 months before putting a team on the paddock....
Paramount!!
Must be Humptys fault......

to clarify, I didn't mean first string players wouldn't play, but it is essential to have all your squad players there and the likes of Grant, Humble, Chisolm would likely be used in both NSW cup and NRL trials. In addition im sure the coaching staff want to watch all the blokes in the full time squad in the nSW cup game, they would have little or no interest in watching the West side run around

True… Although they did last year!!
Maybe the reason Wests aren't on the bill is they aint got it together yet??

Off topic a little… Kinda?? But I am interested in some numbers:
What was the population of the Area in question in 1999
What is the population of the said area now.
My point is Wests Tigers has been the "Local team" Since the turn of the century....
The area from what I know has grown a lot since then, I am just wondering what % of the population
have populated the area since the forming of the WT's... Hence would know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
of the history....

It will be interesting to see how many turn out in support of the divisive demands of the proposed rally.
Where is the pro-Wests Tigers rally? I'll be going to that.
"Concord" Tigers?! that makes me think #%^*&@$ you too!

While I agree with the demands I don't see how a protest rally would achieve any results. :frowning: most of the demands I agree with in principle.

The trial is a saturday so I'd be working til 1 and would miss the first game but if I wasn't working I'd attend all 4 games, I live a 5 minute walk from the ground so it's pretty convenient entertainment for me.

Campbelltown's population has increased 20% since 1986.
Camden's population has increased 80% since 1996.

While feeling bored, I decided to go to the Magpies site and came across this article…...

http://westsmagpies.blogspot.com/2012/01/why-we-feel-let-down-by-joint-venture.html

So I clicked on it to see the pictures and was kind of bemused by it all.

If you look at the first 2 pictures which aims the argument at the amount of games allocated to Campbelltown compared to the inner city. Yes, The Macarthur area is bigger in size but knowing how crammed the houses are in the inner city and how spread out they are in comparison to the Macarthur area, I'm willing to bet there's more residents in the inner city compared to the Macarthur area.

The next 2 pictures are aimed at the Magpie on the sleeve not being visible. If you look at the second picture of Benji and Robbie on the website, yes, the Magpie isn't visible in those shots and that's because they have their sleeves rolled up and taped. Wests Tigers should put out an edict saying all players must not roll their sleeves up and use tape on their jerseys.

The next picture's argument is aimed at the current jersey having a more "Balmain feel." I would have to say that's correct. Let's forget though that between 2000-2004 then 2008-2010 The home jersey was a predominantly solid black which gave the jersey a "Magpies feel." This is going off my memory and a little help with wikipedia so this may not be 100% accurate. So for 4 years out of the 12 years of the joint venture there has been a "Balmain feel" to the home jersey, hey, I totally agree, they should rally for that one too.

The last argument is aimed at Magpie players being forced to play for Balmain. I guess that's a valid argument.

So according to the Magpies website they feel let down and are rallying because there's probably less residents in the Macarthur area than the inner city so there has to be more games at Campbelltown to cater for the less residents. The players roll their sleeves up and it covers the Magpie on the jersey. Wests Tigers have only used the solid black "Magpie feel" jersey as their home jersey for only 8 years of the 12 years of the joint venture's existence. The last reason, Magpie players being forced to play for Balmain.

Personally, if that's the basis of this rally then it's pretty weak, soft and petty if you ask me. If this minority group want to continue with their rally on those points, well, more power to them!

WT jerseys should be designed so the Magpie logo and sponsors logo are not hidden…it should be considered when the jersyes are designed and printed.
Everyone knows most players roll them up a bit then tape....
The sponsors logo would never be allowed to be taped over...it seems the magpies not as important....it was once above the sponsor
Valid point...its not that difficult a problem.

Lol that first picture is stupid.
I could get a picture of Australia, put a massive circle in the middle and say 0 Games.
Doesn't mean anybody should be taking games there

It is a valid point and it's not that difficult a problem to solve. A reason to rally??? Pretty soft reason if you ask me.

I enjoyed the "Balmain feel" argument. That's what prompted me to make the original post after doing a little research.

Agreed, surely it's not too much to ask to move the magpie back or in a similar position where it remains visible.

I think in terms of the 'Balmain feel' the idea isnt as much that as a Tigers feel. Which is perfectly justified.
But I do agree we should have a black jersey as our alternate. Not just because of the Magpies but because its what we as Wests Tigers have done usually in the past.
