My predicted 17 come round 2. What I would love to see for future rounds is:
  • Lobb crushes in Reggies and takes the number 5 spot. Tupou has talent but is raw and needs work, I don't like wasting a spot developing him into a first grader if he's not staying.
  • Alaimalo goes well and takes number 4. I've never really rated Toa, he is servicable but I don't see the upside that others do.
  • Kit Lualilii earns a bench spot off Seyfrath. I thought he was solid on debut a in a game where we got rinsed, and it's only up from there.

Yeah not bad. Might see some1 jump Tupou and/or Alaimalo nipping at To'a's heels with good
Cup form. Brand new backline & halves in 2024.
Also probably have 2 factor Nado in the equation 2.
Def think Benji will be conservative 2 start the
season off & have Simpkin at 14. Missing an
impact prop off the bench IMO. Faagutu will
get a run mid-year hopefully. Benji is capable
of selecting anyone at this moment in time.

I think we need to manufacture a creative lock and an impact prop out of Simpkin and Stef and trial form will dictate which of our outside backs might be ready.
 
After picking up their second straight wooden spoon, Wests Tigers have gone back to the drawing board for 2024 having welcomed in head coach Benji Marshall and seven new recruits.

All the recent focus has been on the signature of Jarome Luai for 2025, but the new-look Concord side will be eager to prove the future is now and begin their climb out of the NRL cellar.

Experienced playmaker Aidan Sezer and young gun Jayden Sullivan look set to be given first opportunity to ignite the Tigers’ attack, but after signing a four-year deal with the club 18-year-old Latu Fainu will have the two playmakers constantly looking over their shoulders in pre-season.

There’s also healthy competition among the outside backs with the arrival of Dally M Centre Justin Olam and emerging U/19s Origin star Josh Feledy.

Olam must be there for the season opener with his winning culture and 104 games of NRL experience a huge asset to the Wests Tigers backline, while injury-riddled Brent Naden and 2023 breakout star Starford To'a are expected to fight it out to partner the Storm star.

On the back of a rookie season in which he averaged 159 metres per game and busted 59 tackles, exciting fullback Jahream Bula is certain to be given first crack in the No.1 jersey.

Returning 2023 recruits Api Koroisau, David Klemmer and John Bateman will also be desperate to bring some success to long-suffering fans when they line up for a second season in the black, white and orange.

Positional battle to watch​

As the Wests Tigers look to start the season as the only team with fresh faces at both five-eighth and halfback, all eyes will be on their new halves pairing in 2024.

Super League recruit Aidan Sezer and Dragons youngster Jayden Sullivan look set to be handed first shot at steering Benji Marshall’s side around the paddock but there will be no room for error with a number of playmakers in waiting.

The club has high hopes for emerging playmakers Latu Fainu and Lachie Galvin who were both signed on long-term deals last season and look to be ready to make an impact in first grade in 2024.

Both just 18-years-old and blessed with exceptional pace and ball skills, whoever gets first shot at igniting the Tigers' attack will need to be firing from the first whistle to keep the youngsters waiting in the wings.

Sezer will be 7 and a faster younger player will be on his outside Sezer will control the team with Api and kick to the corners and be controlling it will be very interesting to watch a controlling half run the Tigers

Could well go that way.

My thinking is we need to unearth a halfback for when it counts (2025) and I’d give the young fella first crack.

Bud I see as a good #14 for versatility and he may well start the season in the six, but I’d rather see what Fainu has.

I'm pretty bullish on how Samuela goes this year. a lot of people (myself included) are more intrigued by his brother's prospects, but in Sammy we have a powerful, skilful edge forward that will be able to do a job in the middle if called upon.

while there were no quotes, WT told the Herald in their preseason wrap that Samuela (along with Stefano) was our best performer at training. for a 20 year old that's pretty nuts.

this video gives you a bit of an idea of what he's about. good footwork, tackle breaking ability, always looking to offload and most importantly, does a lot of good clean up work. providing he can be looked after off the field we have a very special talent on our hands.

He needs to check his aggression and funnel it into the appropriate on field actions or else he'll become a liability.
That crap where he went around to the QLD hotel to fight someone after an origin was try-hard gangster bullshit and will not be tolerated as we push towards becoming a professional outfit.

definitely agree. stuff like that is ridiculous and needs to be kept in check. hopefully with some decent senior players around him + Benji and Richo's influence these issues won't be happening.

My worry with the Fainu bros is they're linked to those Manly boys Fainu, Haumole, etc. that have gang culture influences. Hoping their first grade career isn't impacted by that
