Season 2024 - Round 2 Team

attack-wise yeah, defensively no. he's got some work to do defensively in the middle. besides, I think we're well equipped at lock with Laulili'i, Matamua and Fa'agutu coming thru, not to mention the fact that Seyfarth and Bateman could probably do a better job. back row is his spot for now.

He has lateral defensive issues, his aggression can also create issues defensively as well. Has abit to learn in that space. Definitely not a lock in my view.

I actually think the attacking lock isn't going to work for us.

I know it can work and players like Yeo and King have made it work.
We really need second row forwards who can combine with our backs to create overlaps.
Lock we need to get our defense right. I wish we could get another Liam Fulton style player, a tackling machine just to pick up the slack in the middle.

I agree that our back row is vital to our attack.
Over the past few seasons we have been constantly playing 13’s who are really just another prop. To really pressure opposing defences, you need a 13 who is attack minded, can regularly play as a first receiver and has the speed to make line breaks.
Not easy to find players who can play this role and also fulfil their defensive requirements in the middle.

This season though was the first we did not get OWNED badly in the front row.
Sure, we have beefed up when the other teams have speed up.

I just can't see us reducing our front row beef without us getting owned again. We are playing very slowly out of the ruck and we need to solve that and when solved that speed should lead us to scoring tries. ...

Yet we replace say Stefano or Pole with a faster but less beefy player, then I see us getting owned and falling backwards again. 2022 we just got stomped on.

Chris H knows how to run as a big guy. I am hoping he can coach a little more grit and stepping into the people we have. No one has claimed Lock, but there is enough competition that someone may step up.

Stefano has to stand up. Seen enough of Stephanie.
You reckon he looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane ?
I tell you what, I would not want be the one to tell him that in person.
No doubt he’s previously had good and bad patches in each game, not consistently good for his whole time on the field.
He’s still only young for a prop, I’m hopeful he’s ready to produce his best in a more consistent basis in 2024.

Interesting quote by Benji in a foxsports article yesterday that Lachie Galvin could be a smokie for a halves position to start the season.

“Lachie Galvin is in the mix to play in the halves. He could be one of the guys who start the season. He has to earn it. One thing I do know about rugby league players is if you are good enough, you are old enough.

I'll happily pick it up.

I'm pretty bullish on how Samuela goes this year. a lot of people (myself included) are more intrigued by his brother's prospects, but in Sammy we have a powerful, skilful edge forward that will be able to do a job in the middle if called upon.

while there were no quotes, WT told the Herald in their preseason wrap that Samuela (along with Stefano) was our best performer at training. for a 20 year old that's pretty nuts.

this video gives you a bit of an idea of what he's about. good footwork, tackle breaking ability, always looking to offload and most importantly, does a lot of good clean up work. providing he can be looked after off the field we have a very special talent on our hands.

Some really nice touches there. For sure he is in the 17 from the get go.

How is that possible Benji? He has completed 1 pre season with the big boys. He hasn’t played any tough footy yet through the senior pathways.
It shouldn’t be this easy to secure a first grade debut.

That won’t be the team to run out round 2 , Staines and Twally will,be there 15 and 16 won’t and Seyfarts probably goes 17but Sammy may push for a spot if he is going well
We didn't re sign Staines to be Tupous back up..
Lobb mite be next in line if he has any speed
