Next week: Manly
Week after: Brisbane

I believe all the scernarios are correct, personally I want 1 upset to happen tomorrow and that's it. If we want to play next week I think the best scernario is option 2, Brisbane then Manly. Whilst others will disagree, Brisbane are tough, yes, but playing them in Sydney is a massive advantage, then we get a prelim in Sydney against a beatable Manly side. It also keeps us out of Melbourne. They will also be backing up from playing a physical Warriors side, which is a big plus.

If we get the week off, i think Brisbane/Cowboys/Newcastle winning is the best option, gives us a match against the Cowboys or the Storm, who have travelling fans meaning the ground will be 75%+ Tigers fans.

What results do people want to see, and what do you think our best road to the grand final is?

If Manly, Brisbane and Newcastle win it could be the death knell for the McIntyre System, 'cause you'll get a bunch of people complaining that we have to play the Storm in week two yet the Dragons get to play the Knights.

Thanks for going to all that trouble to sort that out Marshall Magic. I like the last option too.

…personally i think the current system is rubbish.
the afl has it much better where the bottom 4 play and the top four play first week.

great post MM. rep points coming your way from yours truly…

im hoping atleast 2 of the away teams win this weekend because then we get a week off and we would have week 3 in sydney

hopefully newcastle beat melbourne, warriors beat broncos, and cowboys beat manly.

I think the death knell will be when team 5 or 6 gets beaten by 13+ in the opening week, then turns it around and wins the comp (I believe something similar resulted in the AFL dumping the system).

Just on team 1 losing, it's happened twice, in 2008 and 2009, in 2008 Melbourne lost and played the 5th place Broncos in Brisbane (which they won on the buzzer) and in 2009 St George played the 6th place Broncos (lucky Brisbane) in Brisbane (they were thrashed). Team 1 has never played a top 4 side in week 2 of the finals.

Storm + Cowboys + Warriors win this weekend = Play Warriors in Week 3…....Because I want a week off.

Ohh But then its Storm in Grand Final

Just to indicate the idiocy of the system:

In 2005, Tigers (4th) won and played Brisbane (3rd) in Week 2, while Cowboys (5th) lost by 44 and played Storm (6th).

In 2008, Roosters (4th) lost by 6 and played Warriors (8th) in NZ. Brisbane (5th) won and played Melbourne (1st).

In 2009, Titans (3rd) lost and played Parramatta (8th) in Parramatta.

In 2010, Tigers (3rd) lost in extra time and played Canberra (7th) in Canberra.

The whole system is unjust. A Top 4 team loses and effectively gives up ANY advantage they accumulated over the season (Gold Coast is a classic example, lost 1 game in finals and had to forgo home-field advantage to a team that won 4 games less than them over the season).

AFL system isn't perfect either, it favours the top 4 teams too much, making it virtually impossible for someone outside the top 4 to win the premiership.

The Warren Ryan system is the best IMO,

"The Ryan system breaks the top eight into two halves on the first weekend. In the top half the No. 1 team plays No. 4 and No. 2 plays No. 3, and the bottom half pits No. 5 against No. 8 and No. 6 against No. 7\. The highest-ranked winner goes to week three and the lowest-ranked loser is eliminated. There are three knockout games in the second week and two in the third, leading into the grand final.

The system is not afraid to put top teams in against top teams or to have repeat games. And, since only one team can go from week one to week three, the second week off is an exclusive reward for the minor premiers if they are good enough to win on the first weekend."

I agree TS ,last nights loser could be punted ,so what prize do you get for having a good year and finishiing 4th or 5th.
I also believe it should be the fourth game of the semis ,not the first so theres no chance of a team running dead to get the game they want in the second week. The talk was the winner will probably win the premiership and the loser could be out.Mediocre in my opinion.

I'd probably prefer either of those, the first one though is far more likely than the 2nd.

If we get the weekend off means we are one of the two highest qualifiers so the game would be in Sydney probably v Broncos

If we win all final games and storm win theirs it will be a storm v wt gf. We cant face manly in the gf

A win yeaterday means we can enjoy this weekend without having to worry about the results of the other games. It also means I am very tired this morning, but very happy
