Shannon Gallant signs with NQ Cowboys

Willow,

How was my post spam, off topic and or nit-picking? I stand by my opinion that Gallant is a decent footballer but nothing special. He will always remain a defensive liability at the back.

That's fine, it's your opinion and you are rightly entitled to it. I apologise if I deleted something similar earlier, but there has been far too much crap posted in this thread which made it difficult to clean up. As forum rules are now in place, the moderators and administrators will keep a far more active eye on threads so that they hopefully do not end up out of control like this one did.

Might Mouse has left the building….

North Queensland have signed fullback Shannon Gallant for the next two NRL seasons after he was granted a release by Wests Tigers.

The 23-year-old had agreed to a new deal with the Tigers for 2010 but asked for a release because he felt he would get more opportunities with the Cowboys.

"In weighing it up, Wests Tigers have got Tim Moltzen, Blake Lazarus, Mitch Brown, Arana Taumata plus exciting young Toyota Cup fullback Jake Mullaney and another great prospect in Jordan Kahu coming from Keebra Park that can fill the fullback role," Gallant said.

"My best opportunity for myself and my family is with the North Queensland club.

"I approached Wests Tigers on compassionate grounds to release me from my fulltime contract next year.

"It was a tough decision as the Wests Tigers have looked after me and made me a good offer for 2010 but I feel like I need a new start with the Cowboys."

Gallant will provide further cover for the Cowboys, who are set to be without regular fullback Matt Bowen (knee) until May.

Good luck at the cowboys, thanks for doing your utmost for us its a pity the coaching staff didnt appreciate your efforts more.

Yeh>?
Reportedly x3 what the Tigers offered PLUS a job for his missus lined up.

Good on you Shannon. You have made a very smart decision. The Tigers have treated you like garbage, you owe them nothing.

What an absolute disgrace.

So the rumblings were true. :frowning:
I don't know how he thinks he is going to get a better oportunity up in NQLD.After two months of the comp he will be playing state cup again.
Anyway good luck to him,he will be missed at the tigers

Mate he could be the Cowboys #1 for at least half the season. Plus if he plays well there will be massive pressure for him to be retained in the side somewhere.

Come round 1 next year Sheens would have picked Moltzen at #1\. Gallant would have been lucky to have played a handful of games, just like this season.

It's a no brainer really, especially if the Cowboys offered him a better deal.

A smart move by Gallant.

Good to see he had a deal with WT for next season though. It all came about because of Bowens injury. Without that the Cows would not have signed him.

They should have offered a two player swap though. Gallant and Laurie for Matt Scott.

Anywho it is sad to see the guy go but he is doing the best for his family.

Hopefully this means we can sign another forward like a Gower to top 25 as it is forwards we have lacked. Not fullbacks

Shannon Gallant is the Steve Edmed of the 2000s  !

I'm not really pro or anti Gallant but I'm not sure it would have been a good move to match the Cows offer to keep him. As the man himself says we have plenty of cover at FB.

Good decision by the club. We need to focus our resources on quality. If the supporters want marquee signings than we can waste money and average players. Unfortunately for Shannon I have a feeling his career will go nowhere up North. The club has a history of buying player surplus to its requirements.

Shannon has done best for his young family and has also done best for himself to play first grade on a consistent basis. The Cowboys had been after him for a couple of years now and since he wasn't in favour at the Wests Tigers then it was really a no brainer to take up the better financial offer on the table.

Having the coach favour a halfback as his best choice at fullback and the recruitment officer telling him he isn't wanted didn't help. Also, having ahead of him at the club - a halfback who hasn't played much over the last two years due to injury; - a player with off field issues; plus two duds signed from the lower grades of other clubs.

Thanks for the memories Mighty Mouse, it's a shame those in the positions that count can't see your worth that so many of us fans can. Good luck Shannon.
