We are an interesting squad now. Our depth is a massive strength. We can get injuries just about anywhere and replace them sideways with as good or better options. There's basically nowhere I look in our squad and go "oh darn" if we get an injury there with the exception of maybe Harry Grant but we didn't even have him that long ago and don't next year. But even at 9 long term we still have Liddle who I know is a genuine gun even if he's injury prone, and Simpkin who could be anything, not to mention Walters who can do a job there.
Our major weakness appears to be just not having genuine strike in our squad to put fear into the opposition. Every team approaches our fixture with confidence that they're going to win. That and our attacking gameplanning seems to leave some to be desired.
The other observation is that I feel you can have average halves if you have weapons in the backline but to unlock an average backline you have to have superstar halves. We have a pretty meh backline with average halves. Obviously Brooks has the potential to be better but something has gone wrong in his development, and Marshall honestly has never been able to carry weak outside backs (when we were competitive in 2010/11 we had very good outside backs and in 2005 it was mostly Prince orchestrating things and Marshall was more of a strike weapon himself that a setup guy). We either have to unearth or poach a genuine gun in the halves (super hard) or build a far better backline. Douehi might actually be a genuine gun, we may have managed a coup there. Joey is more than acceptable at centre for now. I like what Talau has shown in a very limited stint at both centre and winger and would be just sticking with him now. I'd be moving Talau to centre and Mbye to the bench to supersub and finding another big winger. Saab would be perfect.
