Sheens future Safe at Wests Tigers

But who won us a comp with a team of no one.

We could have had maybe three of four premierships had he got us to the semis.
Theres been 4 premiers since us.

You guys happy with ONE premiership make me laugh, open your eyes, theres many many more on offer, however you must make the semis to get one.

Folkes will get us to the Finals for the first time in 5 years, and that - my friends - will say all that needs to be said.

yep,it says that sheens recruited the right man for the job.

Those who ask for the sack for the only person who has brought either of the joint venture clubs a premiership in the last 45 odd years make me laugh.

Of course, you'll still be saying the same thing when its been 10 years since we've made the semi finals.

You blokes who rag on Sheens make me larf.

Giggle away. The Fonz is under extreme pressure and if the WT team gets more than its fair share of injuries, Fonz will come no where near the top 8.

OKaay….

Which team isn't under extreme pressure and doesn't struggle to make the 8 .....if they get more than their fair share of injury.....

Planning for injury is a critical component of coaching these days, with some (eg bellamy)doing it better than others..we havent been good at this in recent seasons,& Ive got a bad feeling about props & wingers this season too. We'll see.
One simplistic way of loooking at making the finals is that mathematically, all things being equal(& salary cap almost achieves that),each team has a 50/50 chance of making the top 8 each & every year….
The odds of missing the top 8 for four seasons in a row are a staggering 1in 16...quite some under-achievement,& unmatched by any other NRL club.Salary cap is supposed to prevent this ,as well as prevent teams dominating.
ironicallly these 1 in 16 odds are the same as winning a comp(which we did of course, but albeit 5 years ago)
i reckon the ledger with Sheens is more than square,& if this yr is another missed finals, making it 5 in a row,its time for both parties to move on

I agree but the problem is he could be signed for another 2 years pretty soon so it wouldn't matter if we make the finals.

Sheens isnt that bad of a coach tbh and is always been good at identifying young talent, and loves building teams look at what he done at the cowboys Murray inherited the team he had built sure they had some years like we have had but once he left the cowboys clicked and the cowboys started to win alot of games and make the finals with the players he bought through imo if Sheens had of stayed there longer he would of had great sucess. I think we are the same we have been close to makeing the 8 over the years and our team is alot stronger then what we had when he first came here imo he has built a team that wont just make the 8 once but for a few seasons to come so lets leave him be and see what he does this year in 05 we over achieved and this year we have a better squad then that.

Its gonna be a real test of Humphries' judgement & management prowess to wait & see whether Sheens gets some results on the board in 2010 ,or whether its yet another bunch of future promises like the past four seasons.
We has a ready made contingency plan in Folkes if Sheens jumps before he is pushed,so were not going to get caught out completely…gotta be strong Humph!

I really struggle to understand the anti-sheens mindset, it just seems like people have really short memories.

Sheens took control of this team when not only did we not have finals success, we had hardly any success at all. He took total control of the team and built a premiership side out of nothing. Yes since then we have struggled but I would like to see the person who can honestly say after 2005 they didn't expect gibbs, fulton, collis, harrison and co to turn into superstars, remember steve noyce's "next man united speech". In addition to that how could he forcast that our representative halfback was going to get dragged to the gold coast by his wife or that our future star was going to have broken shoulders every second week. Everyone says sheens should be hung out to dry becuase of his recruitment but never seems to take into account that we invested in the players that delivered us a premiership, players that I like everyone else firmly believed were going to take us into the future.

Futhermore everyone that is singing the praises of Steve Folkes although I am over the moon to have him at our club, he won 17 out of his last 33 in his last head coaching position and I wouldn't call the bulldogs teams of 07,08 fine examples of recruitment.

Yes Sheens needs the 8 this year but I think those who are death riding him should remember he is the guy that won the only merger premiership out of team that couldn't even touch a 50-50 record. We could always bring back wayne pearce and terry lamb if you really want .

Also this is my first post but I have been reading for a long time and I just wanted to say thanks for all the info, inside words and opinions, i really do enjoy feeling as though im almost in the loop

I reckon Sheens deserves a lot of credit for hiring Folkes. A lot of people would have too much ego to hire someone with Folkes' experience and authority to work under him.

AMEN BROTHER…... I know that was a bit cheeky but I definitely agree with this sentence.

I wonder how Sheens wouldve gone if hed started from scratch ala Jnr & Baa?
Not an easy job I imagine getting a joint venture from two crippled clubs up n running.
Yes, player development….not much point if you cant get to the semis and CHALLENGE FOR A FREEKIN PREMIERSHIP!
Injuries and recruitment & retention are a part of the game, always have been always will be.
At least the dogs got to the semis in 06...but hey we won the year before and Sheens has given us one chance in seven, we should be grateful huh?

I feel as though sheens basically did start from nothing, we had a team which consisted of such superstars as hoppa, craig field, terry hill and kevin mcguiness. In fact it was sheens who decided to stop with throwing big cash at past it players and start developing our talent. Our team had such a bad repuatation that two rookie coaches in bellamy and millward wouldn't even accept the job, but sheens stepped up and took on the challenge

Sheens is 1 out of 7 at the helm of the tigers, where as folkes was 1 out of 10\. I know you will argue the semi fianl argument and I completley understand your frustration but I feel if the team produces over the next three years it will be one of the better turnarounds for a club in rugby league' history. I know its taken time but i really think we have developed a squad and have the coaching staff to make us a genuine top 4 team and if im wrong i will eat my words and help you push sheens out the door. But until then I really think we should be backing him
