A significant day with the return of HMAS Perth to the water after sitting on the apron at Henderson Yard I believe for about three years due to crewing difficulties. Perth has completed the AMCAP upgrade with significant upgrades to the CEAFAR radar, comms systems, aircon system, living arrangements and engine mods.

We saw in Vietnam we were not able to use our Mirage due to the French refusing to provide spares if they became engaged.

It's for the better we move on from the French programme and now look for a submarine that is common to two major nations. Better still for the men and women who will crew these subs.

It was a ridiculous decision. Yes we do require certain things with out subs different to the shallows waters like Japan but to develop from scratch a reimagined diesel sub from a French nuclear sub is idiotic at best.

It depends on the contract and what milestones (if any) have not been met. This has been building for a while. It certainly will have China off-guard.

Apparently the new subs will be based in WA. It may see US subs based there as well.

They could remove the nuke missiles and refit with convention weapons and then a couple of loan US subs

I wouldn't be surprised with the new shipbuilding capacity coming online in WA that a new naval base just for the new submarines is built in a more remote location. Mark McGowan, being a former naval officer, will be very pleased.
