He won’t play Origin again though
All up Luai is getting around 700K per year from that 850K deal. With the 1.2 million dollar deal, he is still getting at least 1 million per year (agents fees and after tax included). So a 300K difference at least. That's big money. And totally worth leaving for. He can get more TPAs as the main man than being at penrith where his importance is way lesser. Also, I don't think he will play origin again, so money from that won't come by staying at penrith or anywhere else.
Gets paid more to not play in September and have an early holiday after already having 3 premierships? I don't think he'd mind thatIf you break it down I doubt overall he will be forgoing alot of cash.
Players have their base salary which is being discussed and then get paid for finals/winning/rep games. At the Panthers he might actually make more staying & winning than playing for us.
I mentioned agents fees and after tax. 700K is around what he'd get per year if he had an agent and taking after tax. So that takes off about 150K. With a 1.2 million dollar deal, he'd get around 1 million. So that makes it around 300K in difference. After 4 years he earns 1.2 million dollars more than if he took a penrith offer of 850K of 4 yearsYou forgot agent % from your calculations.
I worked in a maximum security prison, so I know exactly what goes on in there, so take his posts with a huge grain of salt

Yes. Inspirational stories. Please share. Kaito wants to know.Didn't know you were a screw 851, tough job!
I bet you got some wild stories as well lmao
Tell Api thatWith us his chances are alot less than at the Panthers.
I'm actually enjoying this. Player signings are one of the most exciting things of the off season. Even if we don't end up getting him, it was interesting chat at the very leastTry not to lose any sleep beautiful humans
NSW have a lot of 5/8s to choose from. Hooker-wise not many options other than an old Cookie, Koroisau and a rookie in RobsonTell Api that
Am I by no stretch questioning Luai as a footballer just to be clear. Hence why I agree with your point - I would not be throwing a tantrum if we signed him on this deal due to his talent and track record. I’d welcome him signing of course, yet at the same time not be overly frustrated if he didn’t.you have to look at it objectively. Luai's won three premierships, led his country to a World Cup final, starred at Origin level and has had success at all levels of the game.
Sullivan's played 20 odd first grade games, struggled with injury, form and development. Fainu has done well in the lower grades, but hasn't even made his debut. Lachlan Galvin hasn't even played Jersey Flegg yet.
now I have a lot of faith in the three I just mentioned – Fainu and Galvin especially – but I'd be lying if I knew how their first grade careers are going to turn out. Luai is a known commodity irrespective of whether he plays 6 or 7. excellent team attitude, brilliant on both sides of the ball and incredibly competitive. $1.1m isn't breaking the bank in this day and age. for a two-time wooden spoon-winning franchise we shouldn't even be in the frame to sign Luai, let alone this far advanced in the negotiation stage.
Already our team is light years ahead of where it was this time last year… let’s be honest we played the entire 2023 without a half and still competed in most games…Am I by no stretch questioning Luai as a footballer just to be clear. The only thing I question is the responsibility we’re going to be offering him - giving him the team and the 7 jersey weighs massive risk especially when he has never showcased that before. The $4.5 million over 4 years isn’t chump change as well that’s serious money. However, due to his ability and our desperation I’d be willing to take the risk as I think he’s capable of doing that … am I 100% confident unfortunately not.
I only mention Fainu, Sullivan and Galvin as I do believe one of them will be an elite 7 in this game and it won’t be too too long until they show glimpses of that soon.
I definitely get where you're coming from in terms of not being too fussed either way. I'm in a similar boat. obviously though I do think we're doing the right thing.Am I by no stretch questioning Luai as a footballer just to be clear.
