Could the reason we didn't sign any of the mentioned props that came up be because a certain coach knew he was going back to Penrith far earlier than we all did …...

Thats a bit unfair. It would only be a reasonable suspicion of they were either existing Penrith players or this signed for Penrith for 2019 or 2020 onwards.

We signed Clarke from Penrith …..

Nothing personal against Clarke , but I had heard very little if anything about this bloke killing it in NSW Cup or killing since he arrived

That's because he has….............No E... :brick:

He set you up for that one

I still cannot quite understand our recruitment- we have money and sign Clarke and Musgrave but Napa and Klemmer were available. Did we chase them? If so, why would Klemmer choose knights over us? If we didn’t chase them - why not??

He probably cost a fortune and despite being a really good player we need to manage our cap better than what we have in the past.

Meanwhile other teams climb past us on the ladder

Sounds made up. Johnston getting shopped + Maguire being an ex coach of his = rumour.

We don't need Johnston, we need a centre. He doesn't need us either. He wants to go somewhere where he has some prospect of getting the #1 jersey and that's not here. If he leaves Souths it'll be for Cronulla or Canberra I'd imagine.

God how many more whispers!? The amount of players we are being unsubstantially linked to is just ridiculous! It needs to stop.

Craig Coleman and Bronco Djura. Just putting it out there.

I'd prefer Walker before Alex Johnston. However if we did pick up Johnston nson I think Mbye will still retain the Fullback position and Johnson would be on the wing. So I can't see the WTs throwing much $ at Johnston.

Surely we'd be better focusing on a genuine centre.

Shaun Johnson will most likely be free after 2019.
:roll
1\. Mbye
2\. Nofo
3\. Marsters
4\. Momirovski
5\. Thomps
6\. Brooks
7\. Johnson
8\. Packer
9\. Liddle
10\. Matulino
11\. Matterson
12\. Lawrence ©
13\. Taylor

14\. Reynolds
15\. Aloiai
16\. Twal
17\. Eisenhuth

I wonder what club will get him, he'll be a huge signing wherever he goes

Yeah I get the sentiment regarding sensible cap spending and agree. But we need success and to get success we need a few marquee players. Currently I’d argue we don’t have any.

I would agree here.

We have …...
Brooks
Mbye
Reynolds
Packer
Matterson
Marsters

Where’s the Marquee player?
There’s a good bunch of players in there that are taking a big bite out of the salary.
Trimming the teams wage to chase a big fish is what we need to do.......in my opinion.

I like all the players I mentioned, but to get a great player here trim one of these guys and go large.

Well I'd personally say Mbye is a marquee player - cut above your standard FGer and on the verge of Origin selection. And Luke Brooks, not enough people rate him, but being the reigning Dally M HB of the year has to count for something. Farah, even at his best, was only ever Dally M hooker of the year twice.

And then I'd ask you - when ever were the Tigers signing marquee players? I mean players at the top of their game, not looking for a fresh start or a new opportunity - top of the line, best players in the comp in their position. Terry Hill? Past his best in 2000\. Adam Blair counts and that was a flop. Lote Tuqiri counts I think as well, insofar as he was a returning star but with unknown capacity to still perform in rugby league. Gareth Ellis ended up being marquee, but at the time we signed him, he was not proven internationally and unknown to many NRL fans. I wouldn't count Scott Prince either - he got to his best, but when signed he was struggling off the back of 2 broken legs.

So if we count Blair, Ellis and Tuqiri, that's 3 truly marquee players signed in the last 19 seasons. So of course I'd love more marquee players, but it's just not something the Tigers do, apparently not something the Tigers CAN do. We don't compete in that space. I'd love to, but first I'd love to get a good team across the paddock that competes for the finals, improve finances and facilities, then after sustained success we can dream about the Roosters-style top signings.

Or we can continue to create marquee players from juniors, which has happened a lot.

THE DYLAN WALKER RUMOUR DEBUNKED

Here’s the latest on the transfer front, with rumour flying left right and centre.

Hottest rumour doing the rounds is that Dylan Walker is leaving Manly to join the Tigers - but I’m hearing that’s a dud.

Walker is on too much money at Manly for the Tigers to afford him - and he also left Souths a few years back after not seeing eye to eye with incoming Tigers coach Michael Maguire.

We could afford him but it leaves nothing left over. He's on too much money for a centre.. Martterson, mono and Musgrove wouldn't be on heaps..

I can't understand how the club was talking about signing a speedy centre and an agressive forward and all we have is Musgrave, no Dylan Walker and only one CAP space left.

The ridiculous thing is the club has plenty $$$ CAP money left but with only one CAP space left they are still having big problems in building a competitive team. Maybe the club should pay players like McQueen, Rochow and Oliver Clake, their redundancy payout immediately thereby making a total of four CAP spaces available for new class forward/backs. for this season

If this doesn't happen I have doubts that the club will be competitive in 2019\. After what Cleary did to the club this season and got away with, it is clear that that morally, anything goes in the NRL.

Manly bought him as a 5/8 and had a few clubs after him at the time so got a pretty decent paycheck
