Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Thought Hastings was willing to play at lock, Sheens punted him because Bateman had an issue with him and wouldn't come across if he was still in our squad.
Pretty sure after Hastings was sniffing around the knights and came back to the club showing his 800k offer then Sheens said good luck with your new club., but who really knows there was the Bateman situation, got rid of a gander but ended up with a goose we didn't win in the end.

With all this speculation around Brown being offered a million a year by the Knights. What does everyone think Galvin is worth, how much is too much for us to keep him. I'd offer 650k over 4 years with clauses if we make finals then every year after ratchets up to 750k. But even that has me in two minds, he's only in his 2nd year and done nothing. In a decent system he's prob a future origin player, but he's not there yet, even 650k is a lot on potential. On the other hand his potential is of a franchise player. I'm torn on it. If he was asking 800k and left I'd be gutted but imo atm he's not an 800k half. If Brown is being offered 1 mil a year what's too much to keep Galvin?

Hey Buttface, I'll tell you how good Mick Neil was. In 1989 Balmain paid out a Motza to bring highly fancied Great Britain five eighth, Shaun Edwards out to partner Gary Freeman in the halves. Shaun Edwards went on to enjoy a glittering career, winning the Man Of Steel award, representing Great Britain on 36 occasions including 14 appearances as captain. He also had an OBE bestowed upon him. However in the 1989 Grand Final Shaun Edwards was relegated to the reserves bench....because 'Ginger Megs' was preferred as five eighth.
Now a barman at Petersham RSL

yea, 6m for Dylan Brown is ... a very big offer. ...

I reckon not many on this forum would have said Jackson Hastings was a bad pickup from them. But he has underperformed and seemed to do better here (or at least, better then Brooks). .. Otherwise they have got a bunch of Halves that are turning half average.

Hastings was a terrible choice for Newcastle and was playing lock at WT as he was far from the best half.

Let’s see how year 2 goes. It’s a long season.

That's the really hard question.

Sam Walker I think was re-signed by Easts too for about 1m a season from memory.
Walker > Brown.

I see Galvin as around Brown's level at the moment playing wise. Probably a future origin player, not yet a origin star. ... Yet the bidding war is likely to go crazy, is he worth a 1m a season deal?

All those sets of lips here have telling us how much of an amazing organising half he was have
been very quiet regarding Hastings of late, Wonder if that's got anything to do with him playing 13 in reserve grade?
Weird that there's also another club in the game that needs their 7 to do more than
Point, Yell and Flap their arms.

Was interested to hear JH in a podcast recently when talking about his WT's exit,
seemed to insinuate there was maybe more to it...
Said something along the lines, "I wish it happened now, I would have handled it better
(The position shift I assume) but at the time I thought I was the best half at the Club and that's where I wanted to play" Or something along those lines...
Again, Maybe his stint at 13 in reserve grade for the Knights have given him some clarity on his future in the NRL.
Pretty sure this is his last year at the Knights.
I don't see him getting another gig in anyones top 13, In any position (baring catastrophe)
Wish him well, He tried his best here

If galvin goes well this year - he will get offers north of $1M a year. The salary cap and inflation have changed how things worth. We paid bud some stupid sum to play regs. Teams will see Galvin as a franchise player if he goes well this year.

So guys how much is too much though?
What is the max you would offer Galvin in this market that you guys think is fair?
I seriously am stumped, myself I can't answer it. We will be signing on potential, the potential is huge, but it's still unrealised. What would it take for both you guys to walk away?

Agreed.

The question is how much would you be willing to pay for Galvin?

I’d pay $650k max per year for two years only.

That’s a good amount for a player with one years experience and a good term to see if he pans out to be as good as he is being built up to be.

One thing I don’t like about Galvin is his arrogance that he won’t play in the second row.

If he walks, you’ve still got Fainu there who has huge wraps on him.

Use Galvins money towards a great second rower and centre.

Sometimes I think about Twal being contracted till the end of 2027 and think there’s no way he sees that out. Then I wonder how many clubs he would have willing to take the rest of his contract. Then I realise he’s here till the end of 27.
Nobody wants a heartless, one-dimension forward these days.
