Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just for shits and giggles, how many sets of brothers could we potentially play in the one team if all the planets aligned???

Faunus x3
Mays x2
Laulii x2
Johanssen x2

Any that I'm missing???

Where are you getting them from and who are they ?
You are asking for something that is not available anytime soon, hence the reason why I’m assuming we are hoping someone currently on our books makes a big improvement in 2025 and fills the void.
The dogs are still picking up forwards and another team has also picked up a top prospect, the reason we can’t get anyone is because some idiot handed useless kids a top 30 spot , but Richo has done bugger all to move any of them on

Please name these gun locks for us , pole and bird are the only two I can see , so who are these gun kids 🤔
Matamua SHOULD be a gun lock based on his attacking skill set, athleticism and size. Unfortunately he hasn't got the fitness or defensive ability as of yet. But i have always said he will be a late bloomer due to the fact that he was moved between lock and the halves as a junior. Just needs time and good coaching.

I like your contributions Rock Hopper Steve, but can you give as a suggested or rumoured signing for 2026 ?
Those last 2 from Warriors I stuffed up they were last year is 26, some last year 25, Sharks: Billy Burns and Sam Stonestreet, Knights: Kai Pearce Paul and Jack Hetherington (seen him play some 2nd row), Souths: Jacob Host. There are some suggestions can you add some to it.

It certainly can be.

As it is a summer sport, you are consistently in the heat...sometimes for the majority of the game.
When batting, especially if you spend a long time at the crease, it can be exhausting dealing with the heat and concentrating on every ball you face - some coming at 150km/h+ at your face, some moving sideways in the air, others moving sideways off the pitch and yet others turning at the last moment. You have to deal with hostile crowds, sledging from players on the field, the weather, the scoreboard and having to run quite often. Elite players get hit by the ball a lot as well and if really unlucky, they can lose their lives ala Phillip Hughes.

When bowling you are hyper aware that you will get very few chances to get batsmen out, therefore you are concentrating on every ball for hour after hour, day after day in oppressive conditions. The bowlers themselves (fast) cover many kilometers of sprinting as they run in to deliver each ball. The spinners bowl a huge amount of overs that are very taxing on the body.

As the games go for 5 days, you also have to deal with managing your preparation between days and innings. Net sessions for batting and bowling are still held, meetings are still held and you have to make sure you sleep well - not an easy task if you are 90+ not out over night or you need to get really quick wickets against the worlds best players the following morning. This is made even harder if you are not playing well and the media is laying into you as well. Quite often, you are dealing with all this stress whilst away from your family on the other side of the world.

Its a pretty taxing sport and I can see why young players are opting to specialise in the 20/20 format.
Mentally tough as well, you can't hide within the team when its only you

I was living over there in 02/03 and playing Rugby in the Missouri area competion. We started a new team Rugby Team, recruiting from scratch with a Kiwi (lock) a Pom (second Rower) one Septic (5/8) and myself (Hooker) as the only players we had as a base. We were able to recruit and took the side from a fist game 660- losss to win the final agaisnt the same team and then attend the US 3rd Division nationals. Rugby was then the fastest growing sport in the US, especially in the universities.

The reason wast the there are only school level competions up until the College Drafts. If you don't make the university NFL team that is the end of contact sport unless you are into Boxing/UFC. The standard was low but defintiely growing and the standard was growing.

There was a league competition there, from memory in California, NY and DC, but really park level stuff. There are also AFL and cricket competitions running over there. There is every chance that NRL could take off over there, but are were well behind both of the other codes. The trick is to tap into the university system and develo a national competition from there. The NRL started out behind but if the this Vegas junket gets some legs could propel them up the sporting ladder.
The reference Seppo / Septic belongs in the nostalgia thread lol
