Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Do you prefer our team or the Bulldogs team? And why? Is their fullback better? Their hooker? Their props? Their spine?
Good point you raise AHX as at worst we break pretty even with the Bulldogs in way of talent within our spine, yet they are flying high on top of the ladder and we are struggling to keep in touch with the top 8.
I do think it’s quite clear they have much better quality and much more strike on their edges being edge back row and centres and as much as I’m not a huge fan of Trent Robinson, I recently heard Knights coach Adam O’Brien state Robbo’s theory is your teams whole attack is built around attacking threat on your teams edge.
I 💯 agree with that and I think if we can significantly increase our attacking threat on our edges, we will see a big improvement in our results.
So maybe Galvin’s looming departure is a blessing in disguise as if he accepted our 1 million dollar per season offer, it would have made our cap space very tight and not much wiggle room to upgrade our edges.
Now it’s just a matter of finding the right players, that’s the hard part.

Problem is the clubs all know the edges importance and not many good edge players are allowed to test themselves on the open market.

From what I know I have it on pretty good authority that internally the club/team energy has been off this last few weeks ever since this whole Galvin situation has kicked off and if we’re being completely honest that’s quite obvious in our performance.

I personally think we need to get rid of Galvin asap and have him moved, don’t get me wrong this kid has serious talent, don’t let this last few weeks distract you from how good he can be.

However, he seems to be a massive anchor too what we’re trying to build as a culture right now and I reckon with Latu at 6 we can make a late season charge with a newfound energy if Galvin can go.

In saying that, our forward pack is not up to standard and we need to bring someone in to make a good push to the 8 hopefully with Taylan May mid season and KPP coming next year tagging along. Going back to earlier we have probably the best teenager in the NRL who wants to leave 1.5 years early with clubs lining up to pay him.

We need to try improve our pack and get a trade done, he holds serious value in a position like that. Whoever gets him would want him in the system asap to fast track his development within the team they’re building around him.

Yet we’re going for a transfer fee instead of a player compensation to potentially get a Curran or a Hopgood.

I trust richo and still have faith he’ll do what’s right, but if this is true I do have some concerns.
I think if we are asking for a transfer fee instead, we must have player/s lined up elsewhere which I have no problem with as we just need this guy out ASAP. Any workspace with a guy leaving and putting Bullying claims in would make it uncomfortable for everyone there especially if he is an upstart young guy yet to prove himself in the game.

Hope his gone this week tbh and good luck to him fitting in elsewhere as players talk.

So the transfer fee is to come from Moses and Galvin camp…this is to allow for the Punk to negotiate before November 1st and seek an early release….

I believe once he signs elsewhere, we can insist for a player swap if that said club wants Galvin early…

At the risk of upsetting all of the second rowers on the forum - while I agree that we need some potency on edges than we currently have the important component is the dude on the inside dishing out the pill. A passable second rower doesn't necessarily require great footwork; they need to run a number of consistent lines like a kamikase. Depending on the play they either run at a hole or at a player and the role of the inside guy is to give him the ball so he can break/bend the line, move the player to turn the surface into a gap, skip him or run/kick himself. The key is that they are consitently there at the right time and in the right space.

Get that right and as long as they can also defend we are on the right track - a dude with footwork and a passing game makes it even better. Sam F isn't explosive so needs a more creative half inside him, we need a KPP type and to train up a Kikau for the other edge. Ideally they can interchange or double team to wreak havoc if and when a dificiency is identified.

Then it is just a matter of pouring water through gaps; such a simple philosophy and game plan. Find two decent players - stretch the bank account of one quality FG ready edge and back him up with a young development player with the right attibutes and we will be on track!

Country boys seem to have the right skill set!

If it’s to Parra, what are the chances of a 4 club trade occuring with Knights releasing Thompson to the Dogs and KPP to us to free up enough money for Brown and us releasing Galvin to Parra?

The heroes from the 2022 HMs winning GF team, Miller and Galvin now both (all but) gone. TDS one foot out the door apparently. How’s our pathways going?
The timing of that though. The 2022 HM team played 2 years together due to changes in the age groups from under 16s to under 17s from COVID laws. I believe it was the most experienced team in the comp.
Are you questioning the talent or questioning the decision making around retention?

On top of what you’ve said, I see a real trend in the game where the better sides have a second rower with a bit of an aura about him, someone who a halfback would hate to run at him one on one. Last year Sam Fainu might have been scaring the odd half but our edge forwards this year have been very underwhelming.

100%; I don't think Sam F has that explosive power though. We need a Royce Hunt that can go 80 and defend like a demon on the edge! Anyone got one in their back pocket?

Fainu showed potential in that role last year and he’s always looking busted this year. I don’t see KPP being the solution there fwiw.
