Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This is just the issue across the park isn't it? We have very very very few line breaking threats. 99% of teams make their breaks through the edges with CTWs/2RFs, but Sukkar, Seyfarth, Doueihi and even S.Fainu don't offer us anything out there.

Toa, Latu, Bula and Mason are probably the only ones there possible of making an LB in the whole side.
💯 correct our lack of tackle bust and line breaking threat is our biggest problem and needs to be addressed with our recruitment if we are to progress as a team in 2026 and beyond.
Lack of speed across the park is also a big problem, recruiting players with tackle break/line breaking threat can also help alleviate this problem.

One thing I hated yesterday was Dougie taking hitups on the 3rd-4th tackle. When he does he is slow at reaching the line and the play the bal is so slow.

We need speed at the centres. Look at Dolphins how there two gets on the outside constantly. We need Taylan May desperately. Solved one issue.
He does everything at half pace. Needs to take some no-doz or something.

mpaps is in cup , i hope benji gives him a run at centre , a little starford 2.0 speed to burn . douehi just too slow unfortunately
I hope Aaron Payne is directed to play Luke Laulilii at left centre today (at least for a half) and shift Naden to fullback. Laulilii has shown glimpses at SG Ball level of being a good centre and could be an option instead of AD after the bye.

I like A D but in attack he is too slow, his defence I feel has improved, we needvto sign Tiny May ASAP. Just my opinion for what its worth.
Yes he needs to either shift back to 5/8 with Latu at 13, shift to 13 himself with Latu at 6, maybe try him as an edge back rower and if that all fails we would have no use for him.
Due to his lack of speed and lack of high energy, surely his centre days are over.

I’ve acknowledged Bula’s improvement this season, but with the points you have raised, plus the fact he has no kicking game whatsoever, I’m still not seeing the 900k of value which is what his contract with us will soon be worth.
I thought Jerome was very good for us last night, except some of his 5th tackle options are very poor, we need Latu or someone else to take the burden off him on our 5th tackle decision making and we would be a much better team for it.
Yearn for the days when Latu and Luai halves pairing has a few games together.

You could see the difference when Latu was injected, could be at long last the pairing we have been looking for.

Latu is a very classy player, he has been like that since his younger days dominating the junior reps and it’s still there for all to see.
However he now has a much chunkier build and keep in mind he has mostly played 13 for our NRL team this season and has looked extremely good in doing so.
The middle 13 role he has been playing is quite different from playing 80mins each week at 5/8, so it still remains to be seen whether or not he and Luai are a suitable halves combination or not.
I have not yet seen Latu demonstrate a good confident kicking game, is he now a touch too slow to be a top quality 5/8 and we ideally need someone to play as a 13 just like how Latu has been playing it to really allow a Luai/Latu halves combination to have the freedom to play at their best.
Still a lot of unanswered questions in my opinion.

If we had to make a decision on either Starford To’a or Taylan May who would we choose ?
I know it’s possible we could have them both for next season, but assuming we are looking at recruiting another quality player in our outside backs and could only have one of them and assuming their contract values are both around the 400-500k range who would we prefer ?
Obviously with Taylan being out of the game for a couple of seasons we don’t know if and how quickly he would return to his best, that’s the worrying part.
I’m assuming that is possibly the reason we are not yet offering him near the contract value he is looking for and possibly the reason why he is looking around to see if another club will.

Proofs in the pudding V haven't seen them together enough in the halves to make judgement yet on kicking game, pace and durability at 80 mins, think Benji will keep using him the same way until he gets some Ks in his legs and toughens his body up then we might find out.

Quite like the idea moving AD to lock he's shown that his defense has improved out of sight, can be replaced to the bench when he feels the pinch.

The problem with AD is I get the impression he’s a very egotistical character and may not be open to a move to 13 or back row edge, but you would think if he weighs it all up and wants to prolong his NRL career knowing there is very little interest in him on the open market, surely he would have to acknowledge he has slowed down too much to continue as a centre for much longer and should be willing to give a positional change a red hot go.

Don’t see why AD can’t do similar to what Yeo does at 13 minus the post contact metres. His ruck D should be fine. He can at least be similar to a Dylan Walker.
13 AD
7 Latu
6 Luai
Taylan May in at centre.

Agree mate it's a change of position or the F highway for me his centre days are over, speed off the mark is not quick enough, if he gets through and winds up there's a bit there but he's not sharp enough.

Is Taylan the answer I don't know, 3weeks left to fill the top 30 you would think Richo has someone in mind no idea who.
