Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Broncos teammates are calling on Selwyn Cobbo to return to the club in 2027, despite agreeing on a move to the Dolphins for next season. The Brisbane star signed a one-year deal to join Kristian Woolf's Dolphins in 2026, meaning he will actually be a free agent on November 1 and able to speak with rival clubs - despite the fact he won't have featured in a single game for the Redcliffe-based side.
Under the NRL's much-maligned contract system, Cobbo will actually be a free agent for 2027 before he even makes the move to Redcliffe for 2026. The farcical situation has opened the door for Cobbo to rejoin his boyhood club in 2027 after admitting that he didn't want to leave the Broncos in the first place but was forced out due to salary cap constraints.

Everyone (including me) going on about the fact we need a damaging middle....if you recall Pole in the back end of a game against the raiders last yr was running it off the back fence busting thru defenders.... made Spencers runs look like a temu version. If we can get that Pole than I think we may have the answer...the question is where has that Pole gone....probably a mistake to have him on a starting prop, maybe his pre-season was more about endurance than strength because we had Hunt coming?. I also think Kit may be ready to step up after another pre season and be that damaging forward.

Our attack has been ordinary this season. I'd be looking to target Justin Giteau from the Raiders to partner Marshall. Get Harry to put him up in one of his pads, whatever it takes.

"Our attack coach Justin Giteau (brother of rugby great Matt), I have to give a massive pat on the back, because he's really shaped our attack to what we needed and our style of play," Starling said.

The Raiders had a similar record in attack to us last season, they're now second, behind Melbourne.

Do it, do it
It's not just about coaching you also have to have the players with the skills and talent to play to the tactics. There's also the chance he may have a contract and may not want to move plus the risk of being found to having induced a person to break a contract which can have penalties associated with that action.

Definitely going to need a few backs in T&T. All of Staines, Naden, Faataape, Feledy, Lobb, Craig are gone you'd think. Makasini comes in as a week-to-week player. Mapapalangi and Tu'itupou need to be retained somehow if they're not top 30.

NRL
Bula - Turuva - TaylanM - To'a - Skelton - Luai - LatuF

Reserves
Mason - Tu'itupou (T&T) - Makasini - Mapapalangi (T&T) - Laulilii - Andrews - Madden

Personally, I think Laulilii needs to be developed as a fullback. I'm not sure what the club's plans are for Mason. Either way, they need some backs depth in T&T signings because it isn't in the top 30 or supplementary lists just yet! Geez, I feel sorry for the reserve grade coach!

EDIT: Perhaps this is where the club looks at some of the current flegg guys for T&T and part-time deals - Deininger (flegg-eligible in 2026), Tavana, Taotua twins (Flegg-elgible), Naicori, Nicholas (Flegg-eligible). All but the Taotua twins need big off-seasons to beef up!
I agree on Luke Laulilii at fullback & hope that is the case so he can ultimately develop as Bula's deputy. But I have a feeling Benji wants him as our 1st drop winger given he continues to play him there in Cup.

Mason, will be very interesting where he is trained in the pre-season. I actually hope he's given plenty of reps at dummy half in the pre-season & start to develop into that hooker, halves, fullback utility (similar to Connor Watson). Will need a lot of work still in the gym & wrestling mat to develop into that guy.

If we're fair dinkum as a development club, we should at least give NRL T&T pre-season opportunities to Tino Tavana, Max Taotua & Logan Deininger, maybe even Jack Nicholas as they are our Flegg backs with the highest ceilings imo. As you say good chance Tuitupou, Mapapalangi & possibly even Lobb are offered T&Ts.

I wonder if the club has any desire to develop Andrews as a 1...

He'll have an issue with expecting decent $$$ having a fair bit of 1st grade under his belt, but clubs will only see him as depth.
A few of the 360 hacks cited Dane Laurie as another player to leave the Tigers and kick on. Really? He went backwards at Penrith. Same with Tupou at Redcliffe, Talau at Manly. None of them can crack first grade. Perhaps Tigers got it right in not busting their hump to keep some of these guys, despite the media beat up.

Not sure how old Bunty is, but if we can keep him fit, he might be a good bench addition at a reasonable price. He is capable of crossing the advantage line and getting momentum which is something we lack.
