Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I still think if se can get AD and BJ,then that would suffice for us until more room becomes available so Madge can have a good crack at recruiting top shelf players for 2021,we aren't to bad as a team, some want an Easts type roster, but that wont ever happen...we are a very honest club..

Bronson Xerri should be our focus. We should throw the kitchen sink at him. Only just turned 19, now has 22 games experience and looks the goods with plenty of upside potential. imo

Xerri wants out as he wants the glamour and lifetyle of the Rorters. Massive ego, wants to play with his best mate Flanagan...etc...etc.

He is not coming to us.

Re Dugan...no...no...no...no.

Imagine Dugan, Packer and Josh all on the same team. We'd literally be a retirement village.

Douehei and BJ = a big yes to both.

If the Roosters are after him I wouldn't go anywhere near him.

Yeh, it looks that way ?
I agree we should have a shot at Doueihi, but I’m very wary of bringing in the 200+ game veterans. We haven’t got a good track record there.

James Packer joined Russell Crowe and Wayne Bennett to help Souths land Latrell Mitchell.

The movie star, the master-coach and the money man — how could Latrell Mitchell say no?

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal James Packer joined Russell Crowe and Wayne Bennett to form arguably the greatest, and certainly the most extraordinary, rugby league recruitment team ever assembled.

Packing two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, seven NRL premierships and more than $3.5 billion, Packer, Bennett and Crowe combined to deliver the Rabbitohs a future South Sydney great.

Just a day after Bennett met the runaway Rooster at a secret location in Sydney, Packer flew to Coffs Harbour on his private jet to join Crowe and Mitchell for a private dinner, catered for by a personal chef.

While details of the dinner at Crowe’s luxury Nana Glen estate were revealed by The Daily Telegraph last week, Packer’s attendance and involvement in the bid were kept a closely guarded secret.

Until today.

The casino mogul and Crowe teamed up to convince Mitchell that South Sydney was his new home. Mitchell travelled back to Sydney intent on becoming a Rabbitoh.

After knocking back South’s first offer, Mitchell agreed to sign last Sunday on a one-year deal with another year option in the club’s favour. The deal is estimated to be worth $1.4 million over two years.

Despite signing a deal worth less than the $3.2 million he had been offered by the Roosters over four years, Mitchell is content with the contract that could amount to just $600,000 should Souths not exercise the second year.

The Roosters were stunned that Mitchell accepted the deal after he reportedly “laughed’’ when they made him the $800,000-a-year offer.

Avoiding an ugly showdown with their oldest rivals, the Roosters backed away from a compensation demand and released Mitchell from the final year of his deal.

But on one condition.

He must pay out his former manager, Steve Deacon.

ADDO CARR LINKED TO BUNNIES

With the dust yet to settle on the Latrell Mitchell deal, South Sydney have already been linked to another NRL big name.

Less than 48 hours after announcing they had signed Mitchell, there are noises emerging that Souths are now interested in Josh Addo-Carr, the man known as the Fox, and preparing to offer the Storm a player swap.

South Sydney have reportedly shopped Alex Johnston, Adam Doueihi and Dane Gagai to rival clubs."

That's weird, I was sure that Packer was a Roosters supporter?

Was just about to post this as well, he is a 37.5% owner of Souths that he purchased in 2014!

“That’s weird, I was sure that Packer was a Roosters supporter?”

That would be weird to me. I thought consolidated press owns 25% of the Rabbitohs?

I just despise South’s that much, I don’t want to help them with their salary cap issues so they can go and buy more stars.
Then expect WT to take their leftover scraps.

Consolidated press holdings which is Packers private investment firm owns his share in the Rabbits.

He was a Roosters supporter and friends with Nick Politis but bought Peter Holmes a Court's share in the Rabbits through his friendship with Russel Crowe. At the time he also stated his father was a Rabbitohs supporter!

With that approach we'll never sign anybody. Whoever we sign, it is helping someone's salary cap.

Nofo
BJ
Leilua
Benji

Possibly one of the most dynamic edges in the comp

Also one of the worst defensive edges in the comp

Probably wouldn’t see BJ and Leilua on the same edge for team balance reasons imo which would mean BJ would be with Brooks and garner and possibly Jennings if form hit...not the best edges but not bad imo

Wing:
Nofo Jennings

Centre:
Momo BJ

SR:
Lucy Garner

Half:
Benji Brooks

You are aware - James Packer now holds Peter Holmes A Court's stake in the Rabbits? So not only is he no longer an active participant with Roosters, he's put his money where his mouth is for Souths.

He and his Dad have flipped and flopped between Souths and Roosters all their lives.

Kerry was, by all accounts, originally a Souths man, but got fairly involved in Roosters affairs in his last decades, and became v. friendly with some Roosters hierarchy. Kerry was friends with Phil Gould. James was a Roosters board member at one time and good mate of Uncle Nick.

But James is also a good mate of Rusty Crowe and it seems that over time his old Souths heritage has resurfaced.

So just maybe they were Souths men all along and the business aspect brought them into the Roosters fold for a while.
