Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Is Hastings really that bad?, forget his personality a few years ago. I remember him being a pretty good half apart from his issues off the field which may have changed with some life experience and maturity.

Also, I don't think we're far off rock bottom, groundhog year over and over again. I just want too see us in the finals which isn't looking likely again. We need change.

Realistically Saab, Hastings, Elliott and James T are what we need and chance of signing. JAC will go to South's to play with his mates.

I'm sure he'd find good mates at WTs. When it is all said and done, JAC has a family and we need to prioritise his signing based on WT dollars.

We've really hit the bottom if Hastings is a target.

I would love JAC but can't see it happening. He also has had off field issues to consider. Not many quality halves options available.

Cleary got the best from Brooks. The powers at the Club need to start asking the right questions as to why Maguire cannot. Before rushing out to buy, look at options on a specialist coach.

Happy for a Specialist coach for the spine. Something needs to change for success to come our way

Watch the footage of Brooks against the Storm when we beat them twice. He was outstanding playing off second phase play from Matulino and Co. Our style of play needs to be reconsidered.

Matulino was a big loss. We don't appear to have second phase play or bodies in motion in attack. Penrith are playing some real exciting attacking plays at the moment. I really hope Brooks stays and improves.

Still reckon the pack is our biggest liability imo. They try hard but too many times this year they can't match the opposition and it's game over. Our pack will lift for some games but they can't sustain it weekly and then the halves get smashed for not performing. Same old same old.

I used to want big name signings but given our history we should stay well clear. We can’t recruit long term success we have to develop our own players that want to be Tigers.

Our track record with no names is very good Luciano, Matterson, Korobiete, Josh Addo Carr, Blake Austin, Twal, Aloai. They just have to be Madge players strong, athletic and aggressive.

It’s obvious Madge has had enough he’s burning anyone that can’t go with him. They will be replaced.

I agree. We are better off focusing on guys like you mention. Big name signings are really risky.

Hastings killed it in England. Not sure how well his form will go in the NRL but he’ll certainly be full of confidence

This.

He’s also doing a lot of community work with the club and haven’t heard any complaints about his personality. Everyone grows up eventually.

I would argue his issues at manly stemmed more from DCE who’s known to cause some drama more than Hastings himself.

Should be going all out to convince this young bloke, Gus has a huge opinion, and he kicks https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/penrith-panthers-matt-burton-jarome-luai-nathan-cleary-phil-gould/a2af5ef8-e735-4ff3-b1f8-053044b7ae80

Again, JAC would probably want to go to Souths, but at this point their salary cap is full. They can’t even keep their current winger let alone sign an origin level winger. We will have a good shot at him (but I think roosters will chase him)

I reckon Luai could be our best approach. Panthers will need cap room and he would be worth more then Burton so id say they will look to hold onto the rookie and let Laui go somewhere else

I believe I have seen him once beat a player. I think that player fell over.

Jordan Rankin went well in the UK.

Illawarra, Roosters, Manly .......

Why do some coaches persist in believing they are the one who can change a player when some of the best have tried and failed? Aren't our resources better spent on changing our style and specialist coaching for our halves?

Brooks is seriously running out of chances .. Madge won't hesitate to shop him around come the end of the season if he doesn't show some sort of form in the last few games of this season.

We seriously need to look at finding someone who can lead, drive and spark this team forward .. as we currently look horribly lost with no leader out there most of the time .. !!

I'm still not sold on Douiehi .. he doesn't show an urgency out there .. he runs the ball back so tentatively .. and gets driven back in most tackles .. he doesn't look like he's gonna break the line at any time .. ??

Maguire needs to address why Cleary could get the best out of Brooks but he appears to be unable to do it?

If Seizer and Hastings are serious options as our half I would question the path we are being taken down after the Joey Leilua and Jennings acquisitions.

I agree on no older players as recruits and I reckon 26 or so is the ceiling for bigger name and dollar signings

Looking at our older signings in the last 8 or so seasons and excluding returning greats like Benji, Robbie, Pat Richards and Dene Halatau they were as follows:

Russell Packer 28 on start of first season with WT
Josh Reynolds 28
Chris McQueen 30
Matt Ballin 32
Braith Anasta 31
Ray Cashmere 32

BJ Leilua joined us this year at 28, jury is out and it's only year 1 of 3

Christian Welch is 26 and would be a priority for mine

This is a good point. Unless we solve the issue of why our halves are performing so poorly under the current coach and structure, it really won't matter who we sign.

I agree, I think he definitely grew up over there. I watched him closely at Salford and he was brilliant. I know people will say the Super League isn't as strong so anyone can look good - but he was next level, I would say arguably the best player in the comp. And not just as a star individually, but he brought the whole team with him, to the Grand Final. For those who don't follow Super League that closely, Salford are not even the NRL equivalent of Gold Coast - they are consistently so far below the strong teams like Wigan, Leeds and St Helens that they may as well be in a different comp. Jordan Rankin or Blake Austin are not going to turn a team like Salford into a team that beats Wigan, Leeds and St Helens. What he did with that club was remarkable.

And off the field he sounded very mature too. He was very aware that people in Australia think he's a knob head, he said as much, and he wanted to show through actions that he's matured.

And no I'm not his girlfriend undercover.
