Happy to offload Garner to Manly. Hope Reynolds goes to Super League.

It's been mentioned a couple of times, but I hope that Garner goes to Manly, on the proviso that it's if they send Storm a winger (Garrick perhaps), which lets us get Addo-Carr and T.Simpkins from Cows as well.

Garrick looks likely to go to Dragons.

Why did Garrick come out and say that's news to him..

The Trade rage button looming large of late..

Just like Marsters saying he wasn’t going to cowboys... and Bateman abusing Hooper for suggesting he was asking for a release.

Unfortunately there is no space in first grade for Garner next year. I like him and he has talent but it’s game over.

Why is it "game over"? Why can't he be coached to improve here?

If he has the deficiencies you believe, why would Hasler want him? If it's true, and I hope it's not, surely it's because Manly sees potential to improve him?

So, why can't that happen here?

TT, I don't think Garner fits Madge's type of 2nd rower, thats all. Just an opinion. He can continue to improve and play NRL but I personally think it will be at another club.

So this young second row giant from the Cowboys will replace him?

Who is that?

A huge 18 year old Kiwi second row forward at 6ft 4 and 104kgs. T. Simpkins if my memory is correct. There was mention of him in this thread.

Simpkins isnt coming and he is nowhere near ready im told from some one who would deifantely know. The cows did alot to getting him over from nz and from rugby. Extremely raw. Is a massive human though.

The guy we are talking to or have talked to recently is garret Smith

He’s another young guy who played junior rep footy. No idea how highly he’s rated though

Simpkins was signed by the Cowboys after being spotted at the 2016 New Zealand under 15s Rugby League National Championships.

A 6’4, 17-year-old back-rower, Simpkins was one of the top schoolboy rugby union prospects in New Zealand and attracted the interest of a number of Super Rugby franchises before ultimately opting to sign for the Cowboys.

I have a vague memory of us signing some gun Kiwi teenager, maybe it was even a school scholarship or something, in the last year or two. No idea what his name was or what the details were.

We signed a few yonug gun kiwis to our Flegg side this year, but we just didn't get a chance to see them play. Some of them may have been pushing for first grade next year but now they've lost a year from their careers for nothing.

Lui was a junior kiwi prop, James was a young gun fullback/5-8 from NZ, and there was another monster kiwi who played colts in QLD for a year, can't remember his name.

Went to bed last night.
All AOK with the world, sort of, pending Tamou, JAC etc....
Then woke up to Garner off somewhere .....
(probably means his brother too)
"That escalated quickly" never was truer.

If Simpkins is off -contract anything's possible.

Smith also seems a decent prospect. Junior qld rep workhorse lock.

We missed out on watching a lot of young talent play this year unfortunately. I had a feeling we would do well in the junior leagues and reserve grade this year

A decent chance of winning, or at very least being top 4, in both comps. Would have made a nice change from years gone by.

That is a nice wish.
And a needed outcome too.
We've been miserable in lower grades and junior comps recent years.

Mbye is fine . He’s actually pretty good at 1. He’s a better 1 on 1 defender than Doueihi , and can play the whole backline as well as 9. He’s a Kurt Mann , Kurt Gidley, Craig Wing type. I have no issues with him. Packer is the albatross around our neck. This time next year , I will be thanking him for his service , but not missing him much that’s for sure . Also I’m kind of ok that we have 1.6mil coming off the books next year. If I was a GM I’d be looking to do that every year . Have 1 mil come off over 2 players . It gives you so much flexibility . Get a 900k player , and a rookie. An above average origin type and a solid first grader . 2 above average first graders, or front load gun youngsters who could be poached away. Seems like smart roster management .

Agreed. I think our Flegg side would have given it a good crack. Plenty of size in the middle and some speed on the edges with decent halves, would have gone well for sure.

People seem to have missed the fact that Garner is likely to have been one of the main players who criticised madge and his methods in the recent honesty session. He's been in and out of the team (mostly due to a lack of other options) but has been dropped a few times and moved from left to right edge. If he was outspoken in his critisicm and isn't happy with the way things are going it's quite possible we have let his agent know he's free to shop around.

He's going to be 26 next season, not exactly a youngster, and he has a number of deficienices in his game. Does'nt do dirty hit ups, positioning in defence is poor. contact in defence is poor and very poor goal line defence.

He's a solid backup player to have replacing the likes of Lawrence and possibly MCK. Able to take a bench spot and maybe provide some impact with his lines, and be an emergency centre if absolutely required. If Manly thjink they can cover his deficiencies then good luck to him, we free up a roster spot and a couple hundred k, and won't be chipping in a cent. Likely won't be getting anyone in return though either

Garners biggest issue is , when he is caught out of position in defence , it’s a line break, because he goes for the arm grab, as default. If he puts his body in front he can whack you. So if your an attacking team , you constantly have hole runners disgusting the line they’re running , as this has a lot of joy. It really sux , because it’s so bad you Can’t carry him , yet if he fixed it , his positives are that good , when he’s on he’s a real weapon .

I was just thinking the same thing about garner after watching last weeks game he does not hit with his shoulders rather arm grabs which lets the opposition dragging him along .
