I can tell you that Souths didn’t exactly put their feet up and smoke their pipes , They are a super fit team , plz don’t believe anything Bennett has to say , he is a wily ol fox don’t worry bout that

Agree... Could be his way of recruiting some players that want out of clubs that "so called" over work them. Would love to see Souths knocked out this week even though I dislike Panthers.

Instagram posts about Souths approach to training and how they took it easy during covid to time their run and peak at finals.
Given what we hear about Madge and the younger guys though

That Training style at times a good Idea.

Souths have been Semi finals regulars whilst the Tigers are a club that has been a failure for the largest part of our 20 years.

We havent got the culture on or off the field that has a hard edge to the players.

Ah hate to bring facts into the discussion but Souths have qualified for the finals 8 times in the last 31 seasons and Madge was the coach for 50% of those qualifications. So whatever training style Madge uses, it does appear to work at least as often as any other approach Souths have used.

The other 4 qualifications were via Jason Taylor, Seibold and Bennett x 2, with JT and Seibold not regularly being mentioned in the same sentence as "good coach".

So yeah Souths have been semi finals regulars the past decade and Madge is the bloke that kick started the whole thing.

Rumour going around on LU Talau is going to eels, wants out as he clashes with Maguire, anyone else heard of this

Jennings' career almost certainly finished, replacement needed, sounds about right.

WTs the go to club following the Matterson template. I can't see the attraction of Brad Arthur or Covid Central.

Benji mentioned on FOX that 'younger players' did not react well to Madge's style / Madge needs to treat them all differently / some young players were scared of getting dropped...pretty obvious the only young player who fits all those categories was Tommy.

I doubt we would release him though...especially not to them.

And some of the older players too by the sound of it! But by younger players he could mean Seyfarth, Hoffman, Asu, BJ, Garner, Walters. I mean, they're all young right?

Yes, but Tommy and Garner were the obvious ones as they were constantly dropped / back / dropped.

And didn't really have great years.

Wouldn't make any sense in that apparently Melbourne wanted him but we wouldn't budge?

But if true we'd better get something good in return and Maguire has many rights to be questioned if his approach has clearly put players off him.

Or if true maybe we should be questioning Talau's professionalism.

We could do that too, yeah.

The person that posted the Talau comment on the LU forum was a parra fan, who was replying to a TIgers fan, when asked "What are your plans for tomorrow?" immediately after they lost to souffs. It was a gee up comment and he even stated he was joking a few posts later. Talau is going nowhere you can stop your dribble about it

So simply there is no truth to Talau not getting along with Maguire for those who put two and two together based on something that Benji said, and punter on the Eels forum. Good to know.

Parramatta have announced 11 players will be leaving the club as the Eels look to freshen up their roster after coming up short in another finals series.

David Gower is retiring to take up a role in the club's education and wellbeing team while fellow forward Peni Terepo has decided to take a break from the game and "will look to re-evaluate his footballing future in the coming months", according to the Eels statement.

Kane Evans is joining the Warriors and Stefano Utiokamanu is off to the Wests Tigers while Jai Field, Andrew Davey, Rhys Davies, Jaeman Salmon and Brad Takairangi will not have their contracts renewed.

Development squad members Watson Heleta and Kyle Schneider have also been released.

Rorters are using young Flanagan as an escape goat for poor run in the NRL finals .. I reckon they will be keen to move him on so they can go with young Lachlan Lam or whiz kid Sam Walker. Flanagan is a decent goal kicker .. shall i dare suggest we move Brooks on, and have a shot at Flanagan .. ??

They have a kid named Sam Walker who is tipped to be 'the' next star half.

I.e. Flanagan will be moving on either 2021 or definitely by 2022.

Likely to end up wherever his dad does, I guess.

Yeah, no more dribble in a forum on the Internet. . Thanks for the advice.

Given what we hear about Madge and the younger guys thought this was interesting

Apologies not signings related

I am sure someone at the club has Bennett’s No so Mikaele the non event can get a run at Souths.. Maybe should of put a bit more into training as his form was crap .. another that has to much to say , if you do not like it move ON!

My thoughts exactly, poor discipline this year and not super hardworking. Seems to have escaped criticism from most. Different positions but would rather keep Garner then Mikaele at this point in time. Garner more upside in my opinion. Mikaele still a long way off starting prop I reckon

Every time a player gets a sniff from another club there will be some rumour about possible problems with Maguire and his style of training as the reason. All clubs are looking for player replacements and usually to get them are willing to pay more than what they are on. The elite players can pick and choose clubs but for the rest money is massive motivator.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/inside-parra-s-capitulation-arthur-at-crossroads-as-eels-eye-change-20201011-p56417.html

>Arthur tried to use the chorus of criticism surrounding his team to light a fire that would inspire a run for the title. Unfortunately, the run never came. Arthur, an old-school players' coach, has been afforded every opportunity to prove his way is the right way.
>
>The club has backed him. But while his way isn't necessarily the wrong way, the club will now demand he works with head of football Mark O'Neill in the off-season to find a better way to ensure results improve in 2021.
>
>Arthur has been somewhat reluctant to embrace the power of mindfulness when it comes to impacting results with the coach prioritising football matters over mental ones.
>
>While the players all love playing under Arthur given how staunch he is in their support, there is a concern at the club and an understanding from the coach that mollycoddling the players may have only exacerbated a potential mental weakness.

Interesting that its the exact opposite of the Madge "concerns". Obviously the argument is that a middle-ground approach might work best, but I highly doubt any head coach is so polar in their approach, i.e. only one way or the opposite with no in-between.

Seems, rather, that young adults 2020 are increasingly difficult to deal with. Too strict, in an effort to engender toughness, and they complain about their wellbeing. Too sympathetic and they complain about you not helping them achieve mental toughness.

Always sounds a weird one to me: that some kids want to be professional footballers and get belted by huge men every weekend, but training is too hard.

Interesting read seems like an old school coach like Madge.
Mental toughness well it also comes back to a team playing for each other not there own agenda.
Gutterson, Paulo stood tall.
Moses went missing again.
