Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If we're talking about bringing back ex players what about Adam Blair? Rumours that the broncs might move him on.
He'd be a great lock for us with next year's props.

Believe he has signed with the Warriors. There are a few players on the outer also Luke, Thompson, Hoffman, Lillyman.

Oh right , He's not a good fit for them.
Lillymam still has a bit of juice in him as does Thompson.

Farah at Souths was always going to end in tears.

Tears of laughter…

This was the year all our problems were solved right. You guys both had us playing finals this year?

We have been a disgrace. 2nd last with 5 wins , a sacked coach and our best players leaving

Laugh at Farah all you like, but we have been the biggest laughing stock all year that's the ironic thing here.

I'd be signing Thompson especially with McQueens injury.
He is a very good and cheap edge backrower that can cover centre. He would be in the way of Marsters who would likely fill this role next year.

He would be a dud signing. He isn't a bad player on minimal dollars in a great team. We need better.

Farah has been a problem here though and I'm not talking about stuff that I have no idea about like not getting along with the players or coaches. Robbie's problem is that he is a hog at times and he has lost his pace which made him a threat when running the footy.

All of that would have been fine if we didn't overpay him.

Yeah, he probably wouldn't be worth the money he'd expect. But size and experience at lock is what we're lacking..
Just thought I'd throw his name up, every other name has got a run.

Some things never change eh? We're again underachieving, looking to next year, and Farah is again causing instability. Only at another club this time round.

When was he overpaid Earl?

I think for a long time. I think Robbie and Benji were both paid as superstars rather than quality players with a fair few flaws in their games. That stopped us from developing a good squad.

I just think as a club we've overvalued our start players.

I don't know this for a fact but it makes sense considering how these guys have had to be pushed out.

They were our superstars. Both helped win the GF, both led the team for years, one was the club captain who was twice runner up for Dally M player of the year and was a NSW and Australian representative, whilst the other captained his country to a WC title, was a golden boot recipient and remains to this day an attacking enigma in this game…his highlights reel still gets tonnes of views. Both were instrumental in getting this club its exposure on free to air tv and landing corporate sponsorship with huge tv ratings and solid crowds. They deserved their salaries and provided huge ROI for the club.

If you want to point the finger at players getting fat salaries at inflated rates, try those who came up with them but never hit their heights. These two deserved to be paid well, unlike the dozens who surrounded them and hang onto their coat tails for years. I have no qualms stating that this club would likely not exist today if it wasnt for these two guys. Love them or hate them, they were NEVER overpaid....

True. Both great players who deserved to be remembered for their outstanding service to the club.

They were both great players. I think Benji was a lot better than Robbie. I still think we overpaid them especially when their careers were declining. No other club offered them what they thought they were worth.

Still if I compare those two as stars compared to what we have now there is a massive massive difference in class.

Every cent for 2016/17 and a fair bit for 2014/15\. The CEO and a particular director stitched the club up with that contract.

With a Leichhardt home game approaching, hope to see something announced in the coming days.

Excellent summary. Both legends of the club who we all loved when playing at their peak. Regardless of what's happened since, they were undeniably superstars of the game and critical to the success of the joint venture.

Some here revell in focussing on when a players career hits a low point and do all they can to influence others through relentlessly pointing out their weaknesses both on the field and off, whether its true or not. You either jump on their bandwagon or you dont.
2005 was the best thing to happen to this club to date and Benji and Farah were instrumental in that and deserved every dollar they earned from this club.

You mean 2005, not 2015 right? It sure was a great year 2005\. Our best.

I don't consider Benji and Robbie as legends because of the way they dumped on the club when leaving. The club also screwed up in its handling of Robbie, but that's no excuse for Robbie's behaviour.

Enjoy Souths Rob, and Benji hope you enjoyed playing for the Blues.
